Sony VAIO P
Mar 20, 2009 gps navigation, sony, umpc, vaio, verizon

This is not quite news but we thought we’d mention the new Sony VAIO P which was just made official at CES 2009 couple of months ago.
Sony VAIO P is kinda special because it is the only 8″ netbook out there that includes a GPS receiver. Another amazing feature you’ll like on this device is the Gobi mobile broadband technology and the instant-mode option that will get you online faster than anything else.
But you still get those older technologies such as WiFi, Bluetooh, MMC, SD card slots, and a G sensor :)
3G broadband connectivity is offered by Verizon.
Pick up Sony VAIO VGN-P530H/R on Amazon for $900.

Sony UX490 which will be available this month will come bundled with a bluetooth GPS receiver – possibly the one that was included in the VGN-UX007 package.
Even though Amazon is not showing any information on the bundled bluetooth GPS receiver, this site claims they have some evidence proving them true.

GPS integrated UMPC makes appearance again
Sep 21, 2007 gps navigation, umpc, vaio

At a stand at IDF a new model of UMPC was being demonstrated called EB (Elektrobit) – which we have featured on Navigadget before. The device really is a Mobile Internet Multimedia Device (MIMD) that integrates a TFT LCD of 4.8″ and a complete qwerty keyboard that slides underneath, slightly resembling a Sony Vaio, but there were still some interesting differences. First off it is based on Linux, which contributes to an almost instantaneous boot, and in addition is based on Intel’s Menlow which a fast and energy efficient chip specially designed for multimedia applications.
The UMPC by Elektrobit is not too big nor heavy, almost fits in the palm of the hand, which a size that is becoming more popular among other UMPC form factors.
The wireless connectivity is centered in the Wi-Fi chip and the Bluetooth, besides you can count on the possibility of working under WIMAX and HSDPA networks. Device also has a 3.2MP camera and a navigator thanks to the integrated GPS. And it uses microSD cards.
Really, this must be a device with enough potential because Anad Chandrasekher, general manager Ultra Mobility Group at Intel, dedicated a few minutes of his keynote to it… xataka and clipset.

James Bond 007 UX Spy Gear bundle VGN-UX007
Nov 7, 2006 gps navigation, sony, vaio

Sony’s relying on the new James Bond movie Casino Royale to sell their new so called “spy gear bundle”. The bundle includes:
- VAIO UX Micro PC (VGN-UX280P7)
- Cyber-shot Digital Camera (DSC-T50/JB)
- VAIO UX Bluetooth GPS Receiver
- Aluminum Attaché Carrying Case
And all this adds up to $3200! We’re not going to comment on the price (we’ll leave that to our readers) but we’ll point out that you can turn your UX Micro PC into a GPS navigation system using the UX bluetooth GPS receiver. The 4.5″ wide-screen should provide more than enough screen space for showing street maps in 2D or 3D. The Sony website does not mention anything about a navigation software so we’re thinking you are going to have purchase that seperately.

why some coolest gadgets will never make it to U.S
Oct 6, 2006 gps navigation, misc news, panasonic, vaio
If you are like us you are probably wondering how that tiny Asian girl sitting next to you in class got her hands on a laptop you’ve never seen before even though you spent the whole weekend going back n forth between Best Buy and Fry’s deciding between a Vaio or an HP. Not to mention her cell phone is half the size of your RAZR and takes better pictures than your 3MP Kodak digital camera. We know how you feel. Here at Navigadget a day don’t pass without us telling you about the latest UMPC or PMP that came out somewhere in Asia (or Europe) and will never make it to North America. This article will help you understand what’s going on but it probably won’t make your suffering any less.
There’s no doubt about it: foreign technology can whet your appetite. Super-lightweight laptops from Japan, feature-packed smartphones from Europe, and shiny, gotta-get-it devices designed in India, South Korea, and Taiwan are but a few of the items that currently reside on tech’s cutting edge. But chances are you will never see those gadgets on store shelves here in the U.S.
A trip to the typical U.S. electronics store suggests many Americans would gladly shell out some extra cash for high-end lightweight products. Smaller, lighter, and more-expensive laptops are occupying an ever-increasing amount of shelf space. Even if a larger percentage of Japanese and European consumers reach for higher-end products than their U.S. counterparts, a small percentage of Americans could still spell big sales.
Why, then, do some innovative products never make it to our shores?
