Mainnav MG-600 Review

So we had about a week to play with the new Mainnav MG-600. This device is mostly designed for cyclists. It can track speed, distance, time, and odometer. It can log your data, mark a single point, etc. You can save your complete route for viewing on Google Earth or Google Map.

In data logging mode MG-600 saves tracks every second if you’re moving and every one minute if you’re motionless. One thing we’d like to see here is the auto power-off. I left the device in my vehicle for about 6 hours and found it still on. Good news is that it still had plenty of battery when I came back.

An interesting feature is the “you’re losing” reminder. They like to call it the “speed behind” reminder. What this does is that when your current speed lower than average speed , the screen will flash every 3 seconds to alert you to catch up. Another unusual feature is the light-sensor. This turns on the backlight when it is dark out. We like this a lot.

Mainnav MG-600 unboxing

You probably remember the Mainnav MG-600 we talked about late last year. Well we finally received our sample unit and want to show you what it looks like.

Mainnav MG 600 has a good solid feel to it. The rubber used around the edges, covering USB and buttons is of good quality. What’s really cool that caught our attention is the touch sensitive buttons just below the screen. These are very easy to use – as opposed to some other outdoor GPS devices we’ve used before. And between these two buttons is a light sensor – something we’re not used to seeing on outdoor GPS devices.

It comes with a mount for your bike.

Anyways – so far we’re pleased with the Mainnav MG-600 but do wait for our review that should be coming up soon. After that of course we’ll give the device away to a lucky reader.

MG-600 is the brand-new and high sensitivity GPS device from Mainnav for those who want to get a serious workout on their bicycles .It can keep track of speed, distance, time, odometer, GPS coordinates and elevation. A few other extras we’re not used to seeing with this kind of cycling GPS receiver is that Mainnav MG-600 also acts as a GPS data logger and has an embedded light sensor.

The logged data can later be viewed on Google Earth and Google Maps. When you are actively moving MG-600 will save your track every second. However if you remain motionless it will switch per minute data recording to save battery.

To make sure you’re getting a decent workout and not just goofing off Mainnav MG-600 has a feature where the screen will flash every 3 seconds if you’ve been slower than your average but now catching up pace.
