QStarz BT-Q818 eXtreme

Published on May 8th, 2008 in bluetooth, gps navigation

QStarz recently announced a new bluetooth GPS receiver which they claim is world’s most powerful. The specs on the BT-Q818 eXtreme is pretty impressive; such as the 51 channel MTK chipset, and the 32 hours of use time thanks to the low power consumption hardware. However what makes the difference is the adjustable update rate which can be somewhere between 1 and 5Hz. Hz is cycles per second so when you move it up to 5Hz you can get position updates 5 times every second making this suitable for application where timing is crucial.

We’ll let you know when BT-Q818 eXtreme becomes available at online retailers.

ld-4w-00.jpg
Nokia’s bluetooth GPS receiver LD-4W has been out for a while but it just got reviewed by phoneArena accompanied with some cool pics.

The review is not very in-depth but you’ll get the idea:

The Nokia LD-4W’s built-in chipset is SiRFstar III-LT. In contrast to its predecessors, it’s the most power-efficient and smallest, manifestation yet of SiRF’s flagship SiRFstarIII architecture…

…In comparison to the previous model LD-3W, the battery life of the LD-4W is decreased, due to its small size. According to the official data, the device can be used for up to 10 hours of continuous tracking and up to 4 days in standby mode.

bluetooth gps receiver with a smart design

It looks like this SiRF Star III bluetooth GPS receiver and data logger is coming to U.S. pretty soon now that it has cleared FCC.

bluetooth-car-adapter.jpgManufactured by NaviSys, GR-312 bluetooth GPS receiver has a smart design. It is made up of two parts, the actual GPS receiver and the bluetooth antenna inside the small USB stick on the right, and the bulkier power source on the left. So, if you need to use this with a laptop you can just use the USB stick. Say you’re in your car with no laptop or the battery. In this case you can use the provided car adapter which connects the USB stick directly to the power source.

bluetooth-gps-battery.jpgAnd when you are on the go, say hiking or just using this with a smartphone outside the car just put the USB stick into its housing on the power source and you’re set. Why couldn’t others think of this before?

This device is not only for providing GPS data to other gadgets. It can also act as a standalone GPS logger. The software provided with GR-312 can supply your waypoints in the popular KML format - ready to be viewed on Google Earth.

We have no info on pricing or availability yet.

We came across one of the best looking bluetooth GPS receivers at CES 2008 yesterday. It is from GlobalSat and it is called BT-368.

BT-368 has a super slim design that would make your iPhone jealous but I’m sure they would work great together if you could pair up the two together.

This bluetooth GPS receiver can run for 10 hours under continuous operation thanks to its power saving technology. It uses the SiRF StarIII receiver chipset and of course bluetooth v2.0 interface. You’ll find three little LEDs on the front for bluetooth, GPS, and power stage.

It is WAAS/EGNOS supported and RoHS compliant says the spec sheet. No info on pricing just yet.
