skobbler: free GPS navigation for iPhone
Jun 14, 2010 gps navigation, iphone

This is one of the few (if not only) free GPS navigation apps for the iPhone. As you know we have a long list of GPS navigation apps for iPhone but almost all of those cost you money one way or another. Meet Skobbler. How is it free? Well they don’t have to license their maps. Skobbler uses open source, OpenStreetMap, which can be described as the Wikipedia of road maps.
Skobbler’s GPS navigation system can run on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS and gets the maps over-the-air. Yet no WiFi connection is necessary. The initial app itself is only 2.3MB. Skobbler does free door to door navigation, has 2D and 3D views, day and nights views, and even pedestrian navigation.
Though some of the reviews on iTunes page are not pleased – give it a try for yourself since it won’t cost you a penny.
