Garmin Nuvi 1860 almost out in the UK
Jan 30, 2010 garmin, geotag, google, gps navigation, nuvi

The Garmin Nuvi 1860 we mentioned back in August might be coming out in the U.K pretty soon, and we get a chance to see what it may look like once it finally comes out in the U.S. of A. Nuvi 1860 is a special kind of GPS navigation system for it features WiFi, a web browser, and even a camera that can take geotagged pictures. Some features we’ve seen before here and there, but not from Garmin.
Garmin Nuvi 1860 will run some sort of Linux OS in the background and will have a 4.8″ screen, and bluetooth support. Also with your purchase you’ll get a free 1yr subscription to their nuLink services which cover Google local search, traffic, gas prices, Ciao!, weather, movie times, local events, Send to GPS, flight status, converter, White Pages, and myGarmin.
How much? £499.00 says this site. That’s about $800, which sounds right, knowing Garmin.

free promo codes for iPhone GPS navigation app from Kapten
Jan 29, 2010 GPS giveaways, gps navigation, gps phones, gps software, iphone, kapten

A few days ago we talked about the Kapten GPS navigation app for the iPhone. These Frenchies were so nice they wanted us to give our readers bunch of free promo codes. Lucky you guys.
The app is called Kapten for iPhone and promo code is good for the North American version only. The app normally goes for $8/month at the app store.
How Kapten is different than most other GPS navigation apps is that it is “multi-transport”. You can define your means for travel – in fact you can even start with driving and get the rest of the routing for on-foot. Not only that but the app is also good to be used for public transportation. Kapten for iPhone can do text-to-speech for spoken directions, 2D, 3D views, as well adaptive which changes angle and zoom level with speed, and switches automatically between landscape and portrait modes.
To participate you need to subscribe to our feed and leave a comment below with an email address. Also duplicate entries, emails, IP addresses will be disqualified.
We’ll close this article for comments in 10 days and after that we’ll announce the winners! Here is a hint! We have more than ten promo codes.

iPad does GPS.
Jan 28, 2010 apple, gps navigation, ipad, iphone

No need speculate anymore. iPad does GPS if you have $629 or more. That’s because it is only available in the model that carries a 3G module.
Nowadays you can almost be sure that anything that carries a 3G antenna is also capable of A-GPS. A-GPS stands for “assisted GPS” and is actually better than plain old GPS, not the other way around.
But anyhow, the base model is also location aware, though not as much as the 3G model. It can figure out your location based on Wi-Fi signals, and figure out your direction using the digital compass. 3G model however can also figure out your location using cellular towers. Both models also carry the accelerometer.
So what can you do with a GPS enabled coffee table device? You can use any of the existing GPS navigation apps for the iPhone if for some reason you take it with you on a vehicle. No kidding though, this ridiculous article on NYTimes actually thinks Apple iPad is a threat to standalone GPS navigation systems. The commenters are even more funny…

garmin software for golfers
Jan 28, 2010 garmin, golf gps, gps navigation, gps software, gps tracking, sports gps

Garmin has a new stat-tracking software for their handheld GPS device for golfers – Approach G5. It is a free upgrade for G5 owners and it helps you keep track of fairways hit, greens hit in regulation, putts per round and how far they hit each club.
How does it work? Well, after every tee shot, Approach G5 asks if you hit the fairway. It also gives you the option of measuring how far you hit every shot. If you’re crazy about stats you can also put in which club you used to get an average for that club later on. You have to enter your score for each hole, and your presented with the option to tally your putts per round and the number of greens you hit in regulation.

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 digital camera does GPS
Jan 26, 2010 gps camera, gps navigation, misc news, panasonic

Panasonic just introduced the new LUMIX DMC-ZS7 which has a 25mm ultra-wide-angle Leica lens and a powerful 12x optical zoom which can even be used while recording movies. It can capture 12.1MP images but more importantly it has a built-in GPS receiver that can embed exact location of stills and movies which they claim is great when sharing your media online – making things a lot easier for your favorite stalker.
Like we said Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 utilizes GPS which stores latitude and longitude in the EXIF data. Not only that but thanks to location information stored internally this camera knows about the name of the city, country and state, and information for more than 500,000 popular landmarks, while covering 73 countries. Another plus of having a GPS receiver on board is that the LUMIX ZS7 can automatically adjust its internal clock to the local time.
We’re not really digital camera people here at Navigadget but some of the features of DMC-ZS7 include Sonic Speed AF (Auto Focus), a short startup time of approximately 1.1 seconds, manual control features, face recognition, intelligent resolution and intelligent zoom, AF Tracking, and finally Intelligent ISO Control and Intelligent Exposure.
It doesn’t end there – LUMIX ZS7 can record AVCHD Lite HD video, and also features Dolby Digital Stereo Creator to record high quality audio. It has a 3.0″, high resolution wide-viewing angle screen.
Panasonic LUMIX ZS7 will be available in silver, black, red and blue models. How much will it cost? We don’t but it better be sub $400.
