Inrix for Android (and iPhone)
Oct 20, 2009 gps navigation

INRIX just launched a free (ad-free too) app for Google’s Android platform. The new traffic app can be downloaded from the Android Market Place. Inrix Traffic provides real-time traffic maps for over 160,000 miles of roads, predicts traffic to show how conditions will change over the next hour, gives details on traffic incidents, construction, and road closures.
Inrix says they have the biggest crowd sourced traffic network in the world, powered by about 1.3 million users.
Anyhow – it is free. Just download it and give it a shot.
UPDATE: We asked Inrix if their app only relied on crowd sourced data.
- Incidents: Through partnership with ClearChannel’s Total Traffic Network, we get info. on accidents, construction and other incidents that impact traffic
- Local variables: Varying in degrees depending on the market but ranging from important traffic impacting events like school schedules, concerts, major sporting events or things like the legislative calendar in Washington, D.C.
- Road Sensors
- Historical Traffic Info
- Crowd sourced data: 1.3 million members in INRIX’s Smart Driver Network community that includes consumers with mobile phones, taxis, commercial trucks (i.e. UPS) etc.
These sources produce over a billion data points that are analyzed and converted into accurate snapshots of traffic conditions that are updated to the end user every 3 minutes.
