i had once taught that garmin was the best until i started using TOMTOM.
Tomtom puts you on road level view, it shows the road ahead very clear and voice instruction is not robotic like GARMIN. Also garmin looses gps signal very frequently. Another important point is at a major intersection you almost have to squint your eyes to look for the purple route amids the various colourful variety of colors.
This conclusion has been made after owning a 660,5000 and a 7200 but after discovering TOMTOM 730 my serch is done.

Well TomTom is usable for the “daily common user” but not a serious tool. With your TT you’ll get Tele Atlas Maps which are at least for Germany not really precise. Another point is that TT doesn’t offer any topographic maps, bicycle maps or water maps.
It’s also not possible to work with your TT maps on your computer. Garmin offers Map Source and Base Camp which is excellent software for route planning and waypoint editing etc.
In my opinion TT is a clear loser and Garmin deserved to win this poll.

Most people have Garmin & they may not have compared two or three different variety of navigation system. I have used several – Gramin, Megallen, Panasonic, Pioneer, Nextar, except TomTom. So far Pioneer has best features for the price not to mention 12mil POI For me Pioneer is the best but There is no option for Pioneer or Others

Well the outcome of the poll is not a surprise to me.
Do the same poll in Europe and the result will be the oposite way.
Garmin is good but hre in Europe 80 percent will be using TomTom.
I have been using TomTom for about 6 years now and I must say it is a really reliable system.
When i am in the US most of the time you get a Garmin system in your rental car. Dramatic when compared with TomTom. There is one thing that is really good at the garmin systems. The POI are far better then from the TomTom systems.
Regards from the Netherlands.

What kind of GPS survey would limit the options like this? Notably absent is Magellan, who apparently has paid ad space on the homepage. Here I am, shopping for a replacement GPS (mine is like 4 yrs old), and this survey is of NO HELP.
