Samsung Jet S8000
Jun 18, 2009 gps navigation, phones, samsung

Samsung has officially unveiled the Samsung Jet S8000. Samsung Jet S8000 is a smartphone with multi-task manager and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, so it is good to go for the corporate world.
Samsung Jet S8000 has a stunning 16M WVGA AMOLED display that measures 3.1″ and has a 800MHz processor. Combined with the built-in GPS receiver you can be sure that Samsung Jet S8000 will deliver great GPS navigation experience. If only we knew which navigation software would be on the device.
It has 5MP camera, built-in GPS as we just mentioned, DNSe & SRS Sound Effect technology, and DivX and XviD video support.

Hi i recently purchased a samsung jet s8003. I was researching on the net and all their websites showed that the jet had a 3d life like navigator. So i purchased the phone only to find out that there is no navigator. only google maps. I am greatly disappointed with this phone. And when i contacted samsung they said that i have to purchase a software on my own. This may only be for my country Singapore. Any idea where i can get the original samsung jet navigator software?
June 28th, 2009 at 4:01 am
There is a navigation on it. In the Menu go to: settings -> phone settings, if you scroll down there, you will see “navigation” standing there. It only said i had to install Route 66 software, but i don’t know where to find it yet :P. But yes there is navigation on it.

Besides Google Maps, which is a laugh on the Jet, with tiiiiiiiny typeface…
You get GPS on the Jet, that’s it.
If you want real navigation, try out AmazeGPS and if you do, install the version for the Samsung Eternity. That one works great. Only thing is that you can not use both GoogleMaps and AmazeGPS in one go. So if you used one, set the phone off and on again and use the other.
But why should you use GoogleMaps anyway…
Oh: AmazeGPS is FREE and has GOOD support by e-mail.
Check wap.amazegps.com

does the amazeGPS really works on SamsungJET ? i just bought this phone as well and looking for a navigation software to test the GPS.

it has the steps on how to activate the gps navigator route 66
July 15th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
I’ve installed the software and it works OK. You can buy the basic UK street map and female (and presumably male) voice for free. However you have to pay if you want it to calculate a route for you.
It’s occasionally a bit fussy in getting your position. Usually it finds your position within a couple of minutes but one time it took about 20 minutes before it could pinpoint where I was. (In fact, as I was only using it to test it, I had almost reached my destination before it started giving me directions).
The route finder recalculates your route very quickly if you decide to take a detour. Sometimes it gets confused if you go under a bridge giving you incorrect directions but it quickly gets back on track.
The address search is terrible. It couldn’t find 2 out of 3 addresses I tried, even when I included their postcodes. I had to go to http://www.nearby.org.uk/coord.cgi?f=conv to convert the postcodes into long/lat co-ords.
If they can sort out the lack of address searchability then I wouldn’t mind paying the subscription to use it.

The Jet doesn’t allow me to create lengthy memo entries, or sufficient characters into under Tasks/Calendar entries. Its quite frustrating when I need to type in abbreviated form, instead of full words.
I often need to take long notes on-the-go, hence the need. Anyone know whether its possible to overcome this problem?

How did you get route 66 working? I tried to install and it said I had to activate navigation on Samsung Jet (makes sense) but with my Jet (Orange) the only GPS setting has no navigation option…just a satellite status option? Ta
July 29th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
It’s not a smartphone. It’s uses TouchWiz 2.0

Hi,
just got my Jet and was disappointed with the GPS function that was installed….or not but found this link using opensource maps

Open up your dial pad and enter the following, *#6984125*#. Choose INTERNALS and enter the following, *#9072641*#
Here you can enable navigation and some other stuff, particularly if you copy java apps/games to USER/MASS/JAVA/GAMES using tkfileexplorer, you need to recreate your java DB using the internals menu.
August 23rd, 2009 at 3:10 pm
Okay, This is how you enable the Route66 navigation link on your phone.
Open up your dial pad and enter the following, *#6984125*#. Choose INTERNALS and enter the following, *#9072641*#. Scroll down to LbsApp. Select Navigation. Select Enable. Select Save and come out of the menu. The navigation icon should be in the main menu. If not, just reset your phone.
If this does not work then you need to unbrand your phone, try firmware S8000XEIG2 and then enable navigation using the above method.
After you enable navigation, attach your phone to the route66 software using mass storage mode and it will do the rest.
Let me know if it helps cause I had to do it for my Mrs and it works now. Have fun.
August 24th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
[...] had talked about the Samsung Jet S8000 back in June and told you it had GPS navigation capabilities (well, what doesn’t these days?) [...]
August 27th, 2009 at 12:12 am
This is how i put in the sat nav…first go to http://www.route66.com and download the relevant software to your computer then once thats done plug in your phone and follow the wizard set up guide which basically go into your settings then phone settings scroll down to navigation select on and save also on same page select pc connections then mass storage evrything else should fall into place once connected back to phone and route 66 software…..you must have a extra memory card installed for this to work!!!
August 28th, 2009 at 9:38 am
Will going into the internals and enabling navigation void the warranty?
August 30th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
it works for me buddy ,, Chief_x2 U r brilliant man :)
September 1st, 2009 at 10:26 am

Samsung Jet experts,
I’m trying to use skype on S8003 for VoIP internet calls. Anyone has any idea if FULL Skype can work on Samsung jet by any means. Honestly, I found that Samsung software is horrible (the phone operating system and the PC software that comes with the phone). Any idea also about Android OP system. How to install it on this phone??
Cheers,
October 30th, 2009 at 5:40 am
Samsung jet S8003 india users can enable GPS navigation menu using *#6984125*# But the firmware needs to be S8003DDIF4. IG1/IG2 will not accept this code.
I have enbaled the navigation menu but yet to try the route66 update.
For those with firmware IG1/IG2 try following code (not sure if it works…found somewhere)
1) Enter Admin setting menu *#5239870*#
2) Enter Internal menu Master key *#7092463*#
Good Luck. If it works (or not) let others know !
October 30th, 2009 at 10:29 am
For those with the S8003 jet, I just managed to get route 66 up and working. Lemme run through everything just to make it simpler for everyone. You need to have a memory card inserted in your phone for this to work.
1) Open your phone’s dialpad and type in *#5239870*# to open the admin menu.
2) Select Internals and type in *#7092463*#
(These codes may change every few months- but this is it as on October 2009)
3) Scroll down the menu that appears and chose LpsApp -> Navigation and click on enable. The phone may restart itself at this point, if not restart it manually.
The navigation icon should now appear in your menu. When you open it, you may get a “one or more resource files are missing. Please use the route 66 sync software inc on cd/dvd to reinstall the application.” message.
4)The S8003 does not come with route 66 on the cd so you’ll have to download it. Click on the following link:
“http://www.66.com/samsung/index.php?cid=US&act=1″- just select your phone model (8000) and download the program.
5) Once you’ve finished downloading it, DO NOT INSTALL IT.
6) First, on your Jet, go to Settings- Phone settings- Pc connections- Mass storage
7) Next, make sure you are out of the menu and back to your phone’s homescreen and then plug the phone into your PC using your USB cable.
8) Click on the Route 66 sync installation file and it will automatically do the rest.
9) During this time the program may ask you to eject and reinsert your phone from the PC and will ask you to sign up. Once you’ve done this and set up an account with route 66, you’re good to go.
(I personally had some issues with signing up, the text didn’t appear in the boxes when I typed- just deselect the option to inform you via email about Route 66’s updates and try typing again. You can reselect it after you finish entering all the information if you want)
10) At the top left corner of the Route 66 screen, you should see their Store. Click on that and in the search bar type in the country map you are looking for ex: India, United Arab Emirates, Singapore. The road maps for ALL COUNTRIES are free to download. Some languages and add-ons are also provided free, depending on different countries. (As long as it says FREE on the bottom) Select as many as you like, they will appear in your shopping cart at the bottom left of the route 66 screen.
11) Select check out and a screen with all the items (maps, languages, etc) you have chosen will appear onscreen.
12) Select next and wait til they are completely loaded and then unplug your phone.
13) Go to the navigation icon, if it asks you to enter a lisence or voucher code select NO. You can now access road maps of the countries that you selected to download.
14) Remember that ecah country needs a different map downloaded accoridngly. The roads and areas are all marked extremely well- obviously not all buildings will show up.
15) For navigation along with voice guidance for walking/driving, you will require to pay (voucher code). Play around with it a bit and you’ll figure it out.
16) The compass on the phone needs to be calibrated- apparently it needs to be rotated and twirled around until it gets it’s bearings but I’m still unsure how to go about it.
17) The ‘Help’ section on the route 66 program should provide answers to any other questions you guys may have.
Hope this helps S8003 owners :)
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:31 am
any other navigation software aside from route 66 that doesnt need any voucher code to activate voice guided navigation??
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:37 am
Just a note when using GPS, you must be on the road while using it or not in a covered area or else it may not work. To check your satellite details and your bearing you can go to Settings>Phone Settings>GPS Settings>GPS position. You can check on how many satellites you can recieve and your current bearing. By the way, check first if internal GPS is selected thru GPS navigation via OPTION. REGARDS!!
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:44 am
Route 66 is cool, the only thing you really have to pay to activate the voice guided navigation. I’m using K.S.A. maps and it is accurate even the names of the streets.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:03 am
how many characters on the sms can it handle? is it true that it can only send 160 characters?
thanx…

i just went out to try the samsung jet navigation, it work prefectly well. i compare it with garmin GPS. it is almost the same but as wat Patrick – Philippines said, “you must be on the road while using it or not in a covered area or else it may not work”. and now i start to love this phone more. any one out there able to make this route66 life time free usage on the “drive and walk to” function, as i am paying $8.99 euro for 30 day trial. email wan81sg@yahoo.com.sg

Hey all the Samsung JET users ..
The phone is really awesome …
Initially I also got dis heartened when I could not use the GPS functionality… but later manged to get the Navigation activated and installed the route 66 s/w and sync’d it with the Jet..
Now it works perfectly fine even for the indian roads which are dynamic (-:D) lol …. just install the country specific maps and u r good to go…
The jet is very powerful when I compare its re-routing calculations which comes quickly almost in a second only, thanks to its fast processor.
Steps to activating the navigation in Jet 8003 is as follows:
1- *#6984125*#
2- scroll down then chose “Internal”.
3- master code required!, click on gray area numeric key board will appear, type *#9072641*#
4- chose ” LpsApp -> navigation ” click on enable.
5- go to menu navigation icon should be present.
6- from your computer vist “http://www.66.com/samsung/index.php?cid=US&act=1″ select your phone model download the program, then install it on your PC.
7- the program will ask you to Connect your mobile witm PC throw USB cable. follow the instructions, download the maps, enjoy!!!!!!

How do you get the Route66 voice navigation for free? £60 every year is a disgrace! Garmin sell it for £35 with no yearly fees! This is a question everyone is asking on the internet, pls someone help! thx
November 12th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
hey any one have a voucher code for drive and walk in india
November 13th, 2009 at 10:50 am
Bapi it’s definately a problem with your internet. If you have a reliance data card, try moving your computer to a different location OR using a different computer and try downloading it from there. The network reception in your current location may be poor.

Hi! I recently bought a samsung s8000 as a used phone from ebay and am now having trouble! A few of the buttons on the side of the phone do not work as they should: the down volume button just brings up the call history, the camera button brings up the menu not the camera and then within the camera application doesn’t take photos and the lock button only locks the phone but then doesn’t unlock the phone (you have to press the button on-screen to unlock the phone). So I was just wondering if it is a problem with the phone or there is a way of changing the button functions? Please help!!!
