navigon leaves GPS navigation market in North America
May 6, 2009 gps navigation, navigon

Navigon is giving up PND business in North America. They’ll keep an office open in Chicago to complete their automotive and mobile phone business obligations. However the German brand will continue to operate in Europe as usual.
Navigon did acquire some decent market share here in the U.S. but the really aggressive pricing, specially around holiday times, did it for them.
Navigon was the first to offer life time traffic updates in the U.S. Now they’re the 7th on our list of GPS navigation companies that couldn’t make it.

Wow….another “sign of the times”. Their products always seemed enticing. But internet reviews of their navigation engines seem mediocre at best. Still sorry to see them go.

As people move to popular free mobile phone GPA navigation LifeInPocket which is more powerful, realtime, highly integrated … who want to spend hundreds of dollars for Personal Navigator?

I have been waiting & waiting for the 7300T, I guess now I’ll have to go find another brand, at least now I know why their website went generic without products the way that it did. The least they could have done was put it on their website, and also let people know that they were not going to come out with the product that they had been bragging so much about.
I’m REALLY disappointed!

I bought the Navigon 7100 GPS in 2008 and I still continue to use this product today. This GPS is far better than any of the competitions products that are currently selling today. This 7100 unit is very acurate and has very little issues compared to other GPS products I have bought in the past. Germany always makes good products. It reminds me of a time when America made the same good products. Very sorry to see them go since I was planning to upgrade the unit that I current have.
