Garmin announced today that they will providing in-dash navigation GPS navigation system for the 2011 Chrysler Grand Cherokee, which was just recently unveiled at the New York Auto Show.
The device – like we mentioned – will be installed at the factory and will work with the 6.5″ touchscreen, and Uconnect radio on the dash. The navigation system will include Navteq maps of North America 6 million POIs, and a few of the mid-level features such as lane assist, and text-to-speech.

I’m curious to see how seamlessly Garmin’s software will be integrated into the system as a whole. I believe this joint project with Panasonic. Will there be a smooth transition between audio modes, setup screens, etc..and the navigation application interface? In the case of the outgoing (?) MyGig, the gap between the navigation application and the rest of the software was atrocious.
Can’t wait to check this system out! I’m a huge Garmin fan.

It seems that they are changing names but doing the same thing they are doing now. The Jeep Grand Cherokee allready has the Mygig with Navteq maps. Navteq also supplies maps to Garmin so it`s all the same. The problem is not Navteq, the problem is that you have to go thru Chrysler organization to get a map update and there is where everything fails. Their technicians know nothing about the system and pepole then decide to change the OEM unit for an aftermarket.
