Motion Computing yesterday announced a new line of rugged tablet PCs called J3400. It is designed for mobile workers that have to compute on the go; has a really nice bright 12.1″ screen and supports dual batteries which are hot swappable. However the best part is always the integrated GPS receiver.

J3400 is IP-52 rated and meets MIL-STD-810F specifications which means it can withstand a three-foot drop and resist dust and moisture.

Here are some more specs:

  • 1.8 inch hard disk drive (HDD) that provides extra shock protection
  • Shock-mounted display and HDD protected during drop with an accelerometer
  • optional 64GB SSD for extreme vibrating environments
  • optional 2.0MP camera
  • optional smart card reader and biometric fingerprint reader
  • optional GPS mapping, tracking or geo-tagging
  • Intel WiFi Link 5300 Series 802.11 a/b/g/draft-n, CSR BlueCore Bluetooth® 2.1, and integrated Gobi mobile broadband

J3400′s start at $2300.

I am having a difficult time figuring out how to use the embedded GPS in my Motion J3400. I want to use it for navigation purposes, i.e. street navigagion. What do I need to do? Are you supposed to download an app such as MS streets and trips? As it now stands I am having a difficult time getting their support people to give me a definitive answer, although I have been told to download Google or MS streets and trips, etc. and tell it what port the GPS is using and that is it? Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Would you mind replying to my e-mail, callmrinspector@austin.rr.com as I may not get back to this website again as it was a random Google search which brought you up. Thanks; Glen
