Samsung Omnia HD with S-GPS and Xtragps?

Samsung Omnia HD was just recently announced at MWC in Spain. We first met this device as Acme i8910 about a week ago. Omnia HD is quite spectacular with its 3.7″ AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) display, 720P HD video recording capability, 8MP camera, fast internet access of HSUPA 5.76Mbps and HSDPA 7.2Mbps, GPS with integrated compass which provides navigation with touch control and voice guidance via dual stereo speakers, up to 48GB of storage options, and some 3D games.

What caught our eye in their press release was this part:

GPS / S-GPS / Xtragps with Navigation

We got the GPS part, but what is S-GPS and Xtragps? Anyone?

One Response to “Samsung Omnia HD with S-GPS and Xtragps?”

  1. Kevin Tsurutome Says:

    S-GPS may be standalone GPS
Xtragps could be something like Qualcomm’s GPSOneXTRA that provides assistance data, but without a standards-based SUPL server. I’m not sure if Qualcomm provides chips for Samsung.
