PocketFinder GPS locator

pocket-finder-gpsRecently featured on NYTimes was this device from PocketFinder. As you can see from the picture it is nothing impressive to look at but they claim this GPS tracking device is virtually indestructible and waterproof.

This device – along with PetFinder and PocketFinder Luggage are being marketed by Location Based Technologies. They even have apps for the iPhone, Android platform, Blackberry, and of course Windows Mobile. Looks like they’ve all bases covered.

How it works is pretty simple. Somebody carries the device and the other can look up their position from the internet, a cell phone, or a land-line phone. With the ability to work both indoors (must be A-GPS and/or cell tower triangulation) and outdoors and a battery life of up to 7 days PocketFinder seems like a decent product.

The only part that worries us is the “$TBD/month” service plans and the “some other cool feature” + the “this is the must have feature” with their premium plans. Check it out here for yourself before they call the webmaster :)

a-gps is assisted gps – the device pull form the net the actual position of the satellites so i doesn’t have to get the position during the FIX. e-gps is based on cell towers and it is oriented to companies that to geotaging and need a much faster fix and bigger precision.

a-gps doesn’t work in buildings it is a standard GPS whit that support a special software whit a database.
