After Compass 597, Sprint now has Sierra Wireless USB 598, as their mobile broadband modem for laptops.
598U by Sierra Wireless supports EV-DO Rev. A technology which can get you somewhere between 600KB to 1.4MB per second downloads and 350 to 500KB uploads.
Sierra Wireless USB 598U is also fully backward compatible with EV-DO Rev. 0 and 1XRTT technology for use in areas where EV-DO Rev. A is not yet available.
And just like 597, 598 also has enhanced GPS support. Which means if you have a navigation software available you can get turn-by-turn directions or just access other location based services such as POI search, movie times, etc.
598U also has a microSD card slot that can read cards up to 32GB.
How much will this 3G goodness with GPS cost you? Well, if you’re OK with a two year contract it will cost you $0, but otherwise the hardware is $250. The monthly service cost of mobile broadband from Sprint is $60.
