Canmore GT-730F USB GPS Tracker Stick Data Logger
Oct 21, 2008 gps navigation, tracking

You’re looking at the new USB GPS tracker and data logger from Canmore, called GT-730F.
It can record your position, and if you plan on using it with your camera, you’ll be pleased to hear that the software to match the locations with photographs is already included.
Canmore GT-730F is quite different than other USB GPS receivers for a couple of reasons. First it doesn’t need an extension cable to keep the receiver away from the laptop thanks to its enhanced antenna and RF frequency tuning. Secondly it supports A-GPS which can cut your satellite fix time in half. You may ask “where does it get the information on satellite positions with no cellular network”…
With the supplied A-GPS software (PC application), users may download the most updated satellite data (known as almanac) from SkyTraq servers and store the satellite data in to the Canmore USB GPS stick dongle.
Canmore GT-730F only costs $39.95 and hardware specs tells us this is a really good deal:
- Supports A-GPS function
- Acquire and track 54 satellites simultaneously
- Venus 5 simultaneous time-frequency search bins
- Signal detection better than -160dBm
- Reacquisition sensitivity –155dBm
- 8M Bytes flash memory for data logging, with 16 bytes binary data per record that stores up to 1,000,000 data records
- Cold start < 30 seconds at –147dBm
- Hot start < 1sec under open sky
If you’re looking into making your laptop location aware Canmore GT-730F maybe the solution for you.

Just bought this..not worth $35 (non-datalogger version). Save your money and invest in something better. Out of the box, it wouldn’t even work correctly. Suppose to be preset to baudrate of 38400, but was set at 4800. You have to use their software to hard reprogram it to 384000. First use, have tp wait 20 mins to let it download the before it actually works…even after enanbling and downloading the updated AGPS data.
The WORST PART is that the date updates ONCE PER SECOND!! Driving at nornaml speeds >45 MPH…you will always be about 1 block behind on the map than where you actually are.
