Navigon today announced the new Navigon 2000S. Navigon 2000S seems like a mid-range GPS navigation system with the price of an entry level system. It will cost $199 and will have a 3.5″ screen when it hits the stores in October. It features the Reality View Pro which talked about before when covering Navigon 7200T. Reality View Pro is very helpful at complicated highway intersections with its 3D view that even include actual road signs. There’s also the Lane Assistance Pro which can tell you which lane to merge to.
Other features include ‘fast destination entry’ which really should be standard these days on a device with a mini virtual keyboard. This is the feature that grays out keys that can’t be in an address. Text-to-speech is also a very nice feature you can find on Navigon 2000S.
As far as hardware you’ve got:
- ATLAS III AT642D-XAC, 375MHz processor
- 3.5″ touchscreen display
- SiRF GRF3i+ GPS chip plus InstantFix II
- Micro SD card slot
- 64 MB DDR SDRAM/2 GB mDOC flash
- USB 1.1 port
- Non-removable 740 mAh lithium ion battery
- Measures 3.8″ x 2.9″ x 0.7″
- Weighs approx. 4.3 oz

The Navigon 2000s is feature rich and performance poor! It can take as much as 15 minutes or more to track satellites. I have on many occasions reached my destination before it found a satellite signal. I sent it in for repair to Navigon, and they told me it is within the normal specs and tested fine. Shame on them. I bought a Garmin 265 and it finds satellite signals right out of the box! Amazing!

I purchased a Factory Refurbished Navigon 2000S I have also found that it takes 15 minutes or longer to locate satellites–even with a clear sky. I also see error messages–”memory error at line #???”
