iPod Touch GPS navigation system

Someone out there is starting rumors about iPod touch getting a revamp soon with more memory and GPS integration. We have no intention of stopping rumors so we talk about them here too :)

tgdaily reports that there will be some price cuts in the iPod Touch lineup and in agreement with Apple’s new location based features it would also get GPS. This would make the price of iPod touch very comparable (in fact lower) to today’s decent GPS navigation systems… which makes us want to scream “come on garmin do something!!!”

GPS chipset in the iPod it exactly what we need.

Aha .. now we realize GPS will be in the iPod refresh, Apple’s refusal to accept any navigation software on the iPod makes perfect sense.

When Apple bestow upon us their own navigation software I imagine it’ll also cache maps to memory so we can take our offline iPods and out-of-service-area iPhones into the wilds.

Speaking as a hiker, I mean ‘into the wilds’ literally. Let’s hope that they’ll cache google terrain maps so we can navigate the wilderness and overlay the maps with KML/GPX data downloaded from the web (like my own site, trailspotting.com)

Hope that the navigation still works offline on the iPod version, allowing us to cache maps

Assume that’s why they’re refusing any navigation software on the iPod .. so they

Why doens’t someone just make a gps receiver to plug in the bottom of the ipod touch ( i think some company called orange 360 is) and then those of us lucky enough to have the 32gb version can download some kind of full navigational program onto it, which would include features in standard gps units like garmin etc.

It would sell so well, and the screen on the ipod would make the maps look wonderful!
