Viliv S7 with GPS module


On display at IFA 2008 in Germany you’ll find Viliv S7, a UMPC with 8+ battery life and a 7″ screen. What caught our eye of course is the integrated SiRF Star III GPS receiver.

navigon 2200 and 2210


Navigon 2200 and Navigon 2210 are also new from Navigon – on display at IFA 2008 in Germany. They’re very similar to 1200 and 1210 we just mentioned but also add text-to-speech feature to the mix.

As far as specs you’ve got the 375 MHz processor 512MB ROM/2GB ROM and 64 MB RAM. There is also the NAVIGON Fresh online service that allows you to upgrade your device with extras such as software updates, and latest speed trap information for the whole of Europe.

You can also subscribe for NAVIGON FreshMaps which lets you get new Navteq maps every three months. A 2 year subscription cost 99 €.

The NAVIGON 2210 costs 179 € and comes with maps for 40 European countries, while the 2200 version for Germany, Austria and Switzerland is available for 149 €.

Navigon 1200 and 1210


Navigon 1200 and Navigon 1210 are the new entry level GPS navigation systems from the company. The two new models cover all the basics for navigation but adds a couple of higher end features such as the Lane Assistant Pro and Speed Assistant and Radar Info.

As far as hardware, Navigon 1200 and 1210 use a 375 MHz processor with 64 MB RAM, and have a 3.5″ display. There’s a microSD card slot too, in case you want to upgrade your navigation system with text-to-speech feature or download maps.

Navigon 1200 will come with maps of Germany, Austria and Switzerland and will cost 129 €, and NAVIGON 1210 with maps for 40 European countries for 149 €…

u-blox puts its GPS chipset in Microsoft MapPoint USB stick


Swiss GPS chip maker u-blox was happy to announce today that M$ has chosen their u-blox 5 GPS chipset to be used in their GPS Locator USB stick.

GPS Locator USB stick provides users with reliable positioning and a USB 2.0 port for fast and easy data transfer all in one tiny package that easily plugs into any computer.

… said the press release.

There’s already a MapPoint 2009 with GPS Locator on Amazongoing for $330. MapPoint is oriented towards businesses and helps them in mapping their business data – such as creating sales territories, evaluating performance by geography, or even identify new business opportunities when used in combination with included demographics.

Panasonic CN-HW830D


Panasonic and Kenwood seem to be in an arms race when it comes to 2DIN car entertainment navigation systems. Just the other day we heard of Kenwood DNX 8220BT and today we have Panasonic CN-HW830D which combines various useful features right to your dash.

It has an optical drive to support CD, MP3, and DVD playback. You can watch digital TV on the 7″ touchscreen with 800×480 resolution, or transfer files via high capacity SD cards or access your files on the hard disk drive. Speaking of HDD, that’s where navigation maps are stored so you’ll have your optical drive free for other stuff. You can also control your iPod with Panasonic CN-HW830D.

It looks like this device will stay in Japan (do let us know if you see it elsewhere) and will be available on September 12th for about $2500…

Sony Ericsson TM506


Sony Ericsson TM506 is the name of the new 3G connected, AGPS capable phone for T-Mobile. If you’ve been waiting for a 3G HSDPA handset from T-Mobile then now is your time.

This compact, clamshell design phone is expected to be available in early September for a price that is currently unknown. However we have the scoop on some features and specs. Accompanying the onboard AGPS receiver you’ll have TeleNav application for navigation but we’re guessing that will require a monthly fee.

gadgets that don’t exist: Seek


This is a concept device form Jukka Roitto. It is called Seek. Seek is designed for travelers in mind; uses GPS system to locate restaurants, theaters, clubs, etc. Another feature that Seek promises to have translation to communicate better with locals.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a device like this with high speed internet connection for maps, low power consumption GPS receiver, voice recognition for address entry? Thinking of it we already possess all these technologies. The only problem is that pull out semi transparent screen. When that becomes main stream expect to see this in store shelves.

TomTom GO 630

TomTom GO 630 is the new entry level GPS navigation introduced today at IFA. According to our source, the new GO 630 will be similar to the TomTom GO 730 but will come with maps of the 22 Western European countries.

Other versions of TomTom GO 630 will be available too. GO 630T will include RDS-TMC traffic receiver and GO 630HDT will come with an HD Traffic receiver.

TomTom GO 630 will hit the store some time this fall and will cost £ 300. GO 630HDT should go far about £ 300…

LG X110 does GPS


Engadget got their hands on the new ultra portable laptop LG X110 that is supposed comes wit integrated GPS. It is hard to find a good portable laptop with integrated GPS these days so we thought this was worth a mention.

Here are the other specs:
