They won’t be able to compete with the iPhone once Apple adds GPS.

If the phone and the rest of it is built like their GPS, they will have a dynamite product in their hands. Garmin makes excellent poroducts that are easy to use. I think the combination of Nuvi and iphone will make Nokia and Motorola scramble to come out with better designs and better prices. I rhink they have a lot of catching up to do

I like the idea, as I am a big Garmin GPS fan, but I hope that they took the project seriously enough to hire the proper team to work on the telephony and internet parts, as that is not where their expertise has been. They could easily mess it all up and make a great GPS that stinks as a phone or an internet device. Also competing against it is the fact that there are plenty of well established phones out there that are getting GPS hardware installed now, and I think that most people are still mainly concerned with their entertainment rather than their navigating skills. I do hope it makes a splash, though. I’m all for it if the car cradle makes it easy to use it in either mode.

i’m looking for a new phone that includes a good camera (my camera just broke) and gps that is accurate and must be fast to acquire (i have an old b&w garmin handheld that i could replace).
a little internet would be cool but not a big deal compared to an included camera and gps.
this looks interesting and i’ll check it out against the instinct, iphone2, and treo800.

I can’t wait. It will be built from the bottom up and not trying to build on top of older technology like those who will try and catch up with the Nuviphone. Hurry Garmin, but do it right.

Unfortunately nuviphone will be A-GPS. I’ve been holding off on a new phone waiting to see the nuviphone. I was disappointed to find out they are going with A-GPS. Garmin is more than capable of creating a phone with a GPS that doesn’t require you to pay a monthly charge for the GPS.

A corroborating link please? I question your premise.
