The latest firmware update from Sprint enables faster data speeds of EV-DO Rev. A technology and enhanced GPS functionality on your Sprint Mogul. EV-DO Rev. A technology supports faster data rates and higher system capacity enabling users to send and receive large amounts of data at broadband speeds (speeds comparable to basic DSL). Wherever EV-DO Rev. A coverage is available, average download speeds will increase from 400-700 Kbps to 600 Kbps-1.4 Mbps. In addition to higher speeds, the new firmware will enable support for Sprint Navigation which can provide audio and visual turn-by-turn directions.

If you are not interested in paying extra for Sprint Navigation service you can always rely on Google Maps for Windows Mobile. As soon as you upgrade the software Sprint Mogul can even show you changing lanes on the highway in real-time or even put a little dot on the screen on where you are currently at in the world.

However do not expect turn by turn directions from Google Maps. You’ll have to advance manually after you make each turn… via

Hmm.. do you have to do anything special to get the GPS up and running? I had gotten the Mogul earlier in the year and finally got around to upgrading the ROM today. I wanted to take the Navigation on it for a spin, but didn’t know what software would do it. I tried the Telenav, but it just gives me a “Login failed” after trying to verify my account. I downloaded Google Maps, and told it to find My Location using GPS, but its stuck on Seeking GPS Satellites

Hmm.. never mind. I did a soft reset and I think that may have done it? Or maybe it was when I walked outside.. I don’t know, but it’s working now.
