Marbella GPS NAV5210 from Taiwan
Published on June 24th, 2006 in gps navigation
G-Sol Technology from Taiwan now offers the Marbella NAV 5210 GPS Navigator. This generic looking navigator features auto-routable, turn-by-turn, voice-prompted navigation with automatic off-route and detour recalculation, same features offered in almost every navigator nowadays. But the NAV 5210 adds a little extra, it also incorporates MPEG4 for MP3 support as multimedia support with its SD / MMC slots. We’re not sure if anyone offers this in North America.
GPS: This GPS navigation system offers you real-time tracking and guidance, point-to-point routing, voice-prompted driving directions, turn-by-turn directions, one- touch re-route; address, intersection and points of interest search; save your favorite address and destinations for easy navigation fast zoom and more.
MPEG4: Download your favorite film off the internet, and watch the video with audio soundtrack in the 3.5″ TFT LCD screen and built-in speaker or extended stereo earphone.
MP3: You can shuffle, repeat, and tone control (treble and bass) and let you play hundred of favorite songs in your way. You can also arrange all of your favorite songs by artist, title, or in personalized play lists.
Digital photo: Easy to download photos via SD slot, you can easily view the pictures in thumbnail view and use buttons to zoom pictures.

could you please guide me how to setup the marbella gps navigation system. as i switch on the device, its screen shows a message i.e. “carefully press and briefly hold stylus on the center of the target. repeat as the target moves around the screen.. press the Esc key to cancel”. what can i do to come the actual menu icons on screen. thanks.

It sounds like the device is trying to complete an initial calibration. It should no longer appear once you complete that process.

Gday From Australia mate!
Hey Does this Navagation thing give us maps in Australian citys?
I dont expect desert roads haha
Does it show maps of Australia? or is it Taiwan only?

On the product page it says “Marbella GPS Handheld Car Navigator (Aus, USA, EU, China)”. We’re guessing Aus is for Australia.

how do u load maps onto the sd card. when i received it it came with canada and hawaii loaded. i need to load illinois on it
February 27th, 2007 at 12:59 am
I see that no one seems to have any leads on this Marbella GPS. Admin have not come back with the manufacturer, and I doubt that we would have any claim on that. Mine cost $500+ and yet it is truly useless as a navigator. Yep, it cited warranty & all that on ebay, but ebay won’t show up the seller.
Any other disappointed buyers from Australia?

April 6th, 2007 at 10:59 pm
Hi,
have had mine for 9 months now. Unhappy with the eBAY seller…first one lasted 2 days…2nd one was damaged in freight…3rd one has been great although the maps were old. I have kept my eye out for a copy of any updated maps & found someone who promised me a 2005 copy for a deposit into his account. Against my better judgement, I did it, received a disk, replaced a folder in the software & although Im not sure if the maps are newer, the older note info (found in the text doc found in the Australia Folder) said it was “Version 2004.Q4.2817″
& the new one says”Version 2005.Q2.3446″ I also gained Point of Interest info which was almost non existent in the old one. I use my unit for video,mp3 & photos. I had also changed the womens voice to my own so I could hear the terms “chuck a yooey” or “roundabout” instead of the “septic tanks”version. I am happy to talk to anyone re their own unit, but be patient.
April 12th, 2007 at 11:45 pm
Hello Andy. Bit scary to read your Marbella does not know about the Gateway - what software are you using and what is the version? Thanks HRT
April 19th, 2007 at 11:25 pm
Jamie,
couldnt get my usb to work either…they told me I needed something (syn) which I tried without any luck so if anyone has had success with usb connection, please let us know.
May 10th, 2007 at 10:42 pm
I have touched base an overseas Marbella agent. The usb funtion is only for firmware upgrade. It may be possible to upgrade the firmaware & software for a fee but it would involve sending the unit away & may take 3 weeks. There is a new unit coming out which has a Samsung S3C2440, 400 MHz CPU in it & an inbuilt antenna. It is the 5220.It will have a lic versioin of destinator 6. It will also have photo/movie player. Rec Retail $799 I may have a contact that can supply them for AUD$699

Same story … received mine yesterday, and also “GPS Antenna Not Found”. Looks like we bought a dud.
June 15th, 2007 at 10:15 pm
Hi,
I have just bought the 5210, the maps are ok with just driving around, or points of interest. But it wont let me enter an address. If I select address a clock just sits there with the hand spining. I will do this until the battery runs out or until i turn it off and on at the back. I have tried to reset it but it doesn’t change anything. I also cant change my home address, when I press home it directs me somewhere else? Can someone help me?
June 20th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Hi,
just wondering if anyone has any idea were you can pick up a stylus for the unit as mine has just snapped.
thank you in advance
June 21st, 2007 at 4:25 pm
hi,
all of you that have the “GPS Antenna Not Found” problem, it might be a very simple issue to solve. For a stupid reason the manufacturer of this device (Marbella is only a brand name) desided to “secure” this cable but attaching it with tape ON the battery. What happens is that, if the unit falls down or is shocked during shipping, the battery shakes in it, and because the gps cable is attached on the battery, the cable is pulled out of its connector to the mainboard, thus the error message. So what you need to do is:
- unscrew the four screws in the back of the unit
- locate the wire coming out of the gps receiver.
- simply reinsert the small white plug in its connector and
- REMOVE the stupidly installed tape
- assemble the gps back, and hit the road ;)
Greetings from Greece,
Nick

Hi,
Thanks Nick for your antenna solution.

Does anyone know where this can be downloaded from?

July 6th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
Hi,
Is there any map updates available for download?? I bought a unit about 18months ago and with all the changes in the main Australian cities and land development my maps are out of date. I was driving down to Victoria from the Gold Coast and got to a stage where the GPS unit wasn’t even showing the road I was driving on. Weird.
If there are any Australian Map Updates available for download can anyone let me know?
Thanks

Just recieved NAV 5220 (not 5210). Looks good but seems to have a bug with GPS antenna (getting an error message).
James, with your problem mate, not necessarily you need to update your maps, it could be the position of those 4 satalites was inaccurate , and thats why you NAV was doin weired things. So dont panic mate. ( GPS NAV sys. needs info from 4 satelites to dispalay current live position )
Brian , I ve got Destinator 6 software runnig good. If you send me your sd card, i can put maps on it for you for 40$ mate, + ur shipping. Saves you about 160 $ …
Let me know … if interested . Also has any one fixed Antenna problem on 5220?
July 24th, 2007 at 7:20 am

I would like to point out that when you buy any GPS it usually has the Maps suitable for your location eg Nth Anerica Australia etc. In some cases and especially on sites like ebay you could be purchasing a unit specifically set up for a location that is incorrect for your needs. Eg a unit being bought from a Canadian source may not have Nth American maps or Australia may not have New Zealand
So when you turn on your unit and the sattelites lock in to your coordinates it requires the correct maps for that loication to display correctly. Thus, if it cannot do this sends a message that you need to insert the pre-loaded maps on the SD card. If you experience this message then you don’t have the correct maps for your location.
You should then contact the seller and request the correct maps. Howver many times with Ebay, it’s Caveat Emptor the unbit is sold as isor as described. Unless the seller is a genuine seller of Marbella for which there are a few on Ebay.
It is then up to you to get the maps for your location.
Anyone having this problem and requiring the proper maps will need to purchase the module for their specific location or a location they intend to travel to.
Contact me if you need to do this and I will endeavour to accommodate you. I have spoken with head office ( Marbella) regarding this matter and will keep you posted as to what action we can take to help anyoine in this situation.
We at Marbella and its agents want our users to be happy with the units and wil strive to see that you get the best possible service to solve your problems. my email is admin@nettiser.com.au if you need to address any isssues

bought 5210 had maps than through a couple of mp3’s on now the card
seems dead.keeps asking to insert a pre installed card. The card no longer
detects on computer so is it possible to die after a couple of hours.Seen maps but never got to try outside
August 19th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
mp3 player…how do i use it?
August 20th, 2007 at 3:08 pm
John, the answer is no it should not have died. If youy send your card to me or buy another card(256Mb) and send to me I will rewrite your maps for you. The instruction booklet that came with the machine should inform you how to run MP3’s. They cannot play at the same time as navifation is being used though. Contact me at the email address lsited in a previous post to Martin.

August 22nd, 2007 at 10:25 pm
Hi
i have a marbella nav5210,
1. can i update the software, How?
2. im in Australia and when approaching round abouts the gps says
“turn left then turn Right” is there a setting or other software
which says “round about ” instead.
Also once while i was driving the voice changed and also the gps did
say “approaching round about” and used other terms, for about 1
minute then shut its self off. i reset the unit and turned it back
on, it came went back to normal.
cheers

Does anyone read the mail above?
I have posted my email (admin@nettiser.com.au) and details of where to contact me for maps and to register for information on updates.
Dave, regarding your proble with roundabouts, some roundabouts were built after the maps were made and so the GPS may only see them as turns because of this.
Do you know what version of Australian Maps you have? if the version was installed in 2005 then it is out of date. You need version 6.01 and then some of those pesky roundabouts will be doing the right thing.

Could anyone tell me the difference is with short or quick in navigator
September 2nd, 2007 at 2:34 pm
Hi Mick, Haven’t you heard that the shortest way isn’t the quickest way?
I could think of many humerous quips to insert for this question, but I will refrain with great difficulty and just give you then answer
Short = the shortest calculation between two points, that is navigable
Quick = not nescessarily the shortest route but quicker than the normal route, avoiding known red lights, POI, ( where traffic may be congested) and roads that may carry high volume of traffic at certain times.
Cheers Mick Don’t forget to register to get upgrades at http://www.nettiser.com.au/marbella

Marbella Australia Support and Sales is now fully functional. Please register your units to be advised of updates and to obtain any assistance you might need. http://www.nettiser.com.au/marbella/
Be aware that many of the early units 5210 will not run the latest maps without a firmware upgrade. If you try to run the newer maps your unit will fail and be very difficult to get back to proper order.
Only use genuine maps, made for your unit, yes sometimes someone elses map will run for a while in your machine, but it will eventually cause problems so resist!
Firmware upgrades will have to be done in-house as too many people have failed to achieve the upgrade by downloading and doing it themselves. It has caused greater problems for us to undo the mess that has been made.
All firmware upgrades are coordinated with the purchase of new version maps Contact me if your unit needs upgrading.
2004-2005 units will be the targets for upgrading firmware to run new maps versions.

How mutch for an upgrade map for Aust. My unit works ok I have not had any trouble with it, the only problem is the roundabouts but I ignore them and follow the blue lines.

I bought a nav about 1-2 months ago…
during this time, the nav constantly shuts off even tho it has been charged. but after charging it again, it operates properly. now however, it won’t turn on at all. its been charged, and its responding (orange light flashes), the hold button is right, but when i go to turn on, theres no response. any clues?
September 23rd, 2007 at 2:31 am
AJ The place to ask this is on the Marbella site. But if you should return here then here is my advice. 1-2 weeks if bought off an Ebay seller is the sellers responsibility to replace the unit or at least have it fixed.
I am presuming you bought it as a new unit. Ebay sellers and there are 2 that sell our units are responsible to warranty for 30 days from point of sale.
If they refuse to help you then please advise me who they are and I will deal directly with them.
If it was a private sale That means from someone who has had the unit prior to you and you can verify that it is not over 12 months old then I will be happy to arrange for it to be looked at. I will arrrange this anyway no matter what the age, but there may be a charge for service.
It sound like the battery is not fully charged, this may be due to the charge unit itself, a loose battery connection which drains the charge or a faulty battery that needs to be replaced. Contact me at Marbella Australia to provide details and register your unit with us to be advised of updates and newer versions of maps. Whatever you do DO NOT OPEN the unit yourself and vopid the warranty it may have.

I wonder at the point of constantly writing in this forum to say DIRECT YOUR ENQUIRIES to the Marbella Website. The URL is listed as is my email address.
No one here can effectively answer your question, nor can they say what is wrong with your unit.
If you bought it off Ebay, it matters not, providing it is a new unit. The seller has the responsibility to either replace or fix the unit within 30 days of purchase
One seller also advertises that HE provides 12 months warranty.
This is not warranty through Marbella but through his own elected technicians. The option of selecting that sellers warranty is up to you. But before purchase one should ask to see a written copy of the warranty before you proceed. It is a Rule of Ebay that any commercial warranty must be spelled out in the item description. If it isn’t ask for it and read it carefully.
Other than that direct your questions regarding problems or needs directly to our website. All units should be registered first, so use the registration form on the site and then ask the question.

i have a marbella 5220 purchased in nov 2007 it worked for a month now wont hold charge and keeps saying gps signal low any ideas how to solve
brought off ebay and was told had 12 month guarante but helpline phone number does not exist.
January 28th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Wendy Did you read the posting above yours?
If you don’t contact us at the email provided in this site we cannot help you.
There is no indication of the country you reside in being mentioned, so there is no way i can direct you to a solve.
Buying off Ebay sellers can sometimes be a risk. They make all kinds of claims about Warranty without any backup. If you see the Wording WARRANTY listed on an Ebay site ask them to provide the written details of the warranty.
By law and the rules of Ebay they have to supply this.
Many times these units are NOT under any warranty, they have been purchased at prices that did not include any warranty back to Marbella. The seller was to provide the warranty at their cost. They bought the unit without warranty, but have the cheek to suggest Marbella is responsible when something goes wrong. We encourage registration to try and combat this
Batteries are not under warranty at anytime, by any GPS manufacturer, they are considered consumables. If the unit had been registered with Marbella Australia you would have received our bulletin giving advice on how to care for the battery to prevent it becoming damaged by improper use. This mainly occurs by not following the suggestion of disconnecting the GPS prior to starting the engine. This is for all brands of GPS not just ours. The surge damages the battery and the charge circuit.
I can change the battery over for you at cost, it is possible your seller has left the building after he offloaded his purchase.
You can contact me on the above listed email address. No matter where you are in the world you can send the unit to us to have it fixed. We have clients in UK France Canada USA, Singapore, Taiwan and Australia wide who use our service.
