I just bought one with maps for the whole of Europe,(inc. Eastern),Hong Kong,Zimbabwe, all of USA. All maps look good for the places I actually know in Spain, Texas, France and UK.
Very versatile. Nearly everything is adjustable to personal preferences. Clear screen and voice commands.
Only tried it in UK up to now. Can lag behind actual position by 5 yds or so. Some nice features like auto zoom. Great range of map colour schemes.
Not too obvious how to input route. Huge range of menus.
Bought mine from ebay £115
My SD Card got erased is there anything I can do to get the navigation to work again?
The problem with losing Polnav Maps are that you will have to buy another licence. There is no way they can check that you have bought maps as they do not keep records.
We have only just discovered this problem exists due to 2 others with the same problem. Altina do not keep records on behalf of Polnav either.
We are currently embarrassed by this find, and Polnav have not attemoted to yet address the problem of self erasing maps. It shouldn’t happen but it obviously does and we are asking them to consider some form of support for registered users.
But like many requests to large organizations it could be a year before anything is done.
In the meantime the best I can do is to offer to rewrite your SD card with another brand of map for your area DESTINATOR which was Altina’s Primary Map supplier.
Contact me at Marbella Altina Australia marbellaaust@nettiser.com.au, produce your receipt of purchase and I will point you to the map downnload URL. But first use the registration button on http://www.nettiser.com.au/marbella/registration.htm

software altina a800 em portugues!
Polnav users, when you buy your GPS take note of the uniques ID number in the system screen of your maps. Record this somewhere so that in the event of damaged maps or SD card ( security is to the SD card) so maps must be re written to the original card, if the card is damaged you can still get the maps rewritten and a new activation file sent to you. The maps can not be copied and work on another GPS. Only the card which is unique can be swapped between GPS units. If you experience SD card meltdown and have the unique number and a copy of your purchase details contact me at marbellaaust@nettiser.com.au, or william@altina.com.tw
Cost of new Maps for any country is $AUD120 + $18 for SD card
Postage will vary depending on location. Australia =$2.00 Os approx $AUD7.00
Emile, Portugeses can be set in the language option. If what you are asking is are there maps of Portugal. Yes! It is included in the maps of IBERIA
Just bought the A800 for Lebanon as it was the only GPS I could find. This is my third GPS after Tom Tom (the best) in Europe, Garmin for Kuwait but I could not find good maps for Lebanon where I have just moved. Not as good as the two others but so far it works well.
Maps for any country are only as good as that countries supplied data. Lebanon and a few other Arab countries seem to withold a lot of their information regarding roads. This makes it very difficult for the cartographers to either verify or rely on. Perhaps there are things about their roads they want to keep under wraps, who knows!
Google Earth has been a boon to be able to check shortcomings and errors in maps. Problems with maps should be reported to the Map company, not Altina. However we are always interested to make note of errors and also contact our suppliers.
Maps have nothing to do with Altina, they are made by 3rd party suppliers, so don’t judge the hardware by the software on the units you buy. Most times the selected map is requested by your seller.
Altina uses POLSTAR, and IGO Maps and has to trust that those companies have supplied efficient mapping for our hardware.
I got the Altina A800 for Lebanon, and I tell you, it frequently loses its way. Whengoign from Tripoli to Beirut, it wil – near Byblos – direct you off the highway and back up again for no apparent reason. At roundabouts, which it does not seem to recognize, it always send you ‘right’, eben though the map clearly indicates straight. A lot of the roads are not in the memory either. It cannot naviagte its way to Janna, even though there are two roads leading to the village, one that is at least 45 years old.
