GPS navigation on Sony PSP
Jan 7, 2008 CES 2008, gps navigation, sony

Sony finally made the GPS add-on for PSP official on their CES 2008 website. There’s not much info revealed there but just this:
Explore the world with GPS on your PSP. Utilizing the GPS peripheral and the latest mapping software on UMD, your PSP will provide 2D/3D locations, driving directions, POI’s, and even downloadable city guides. With an easy search feature and customizable settings, GPS on PSP is the easiest way to navigate new areas and cities. Your world has now become portable.
The GPS add-on has been released in Japan for a long time now and we’ve talked about it on Navigadget various times:

It is English yes, I tested the software(MapThis 0.5.2) alone and it looks really really good. I had the New York maps and could very easily scroll around and check everything out. Although. I am looking for the South African maps. I have heard and read that you can use GMDL and Google maps so somehow render the maps and make it compatible with the Map This home made software for your 290 PSP GPS Reciever. If anyone anywhere know anything about using maps or how to get or make the Geodata.dat file , PLease let me know. I am a graphic designer, software and multi media Developer. Please Help me into the right direction. I want to help everyone and get good maps and introduce this cool function to more and more people.
Thank you in advance. Jaco

Oh yeah. The software itself works without the PSP 290 GPS reciever. The reciever just tells the program where you are. Map scrolling is still availible without the PSP 290 GPS Reciever.
