HP iPAQ Navigate

HP announced a new website called HP iPAQ Navigate which lets you plan your trips, search for POIs from your computer and then transfer them to your device. Even though iPAQ 310 features bluetooth we believe the transfer part can only be done via the mini USB port.
The website is a nice add-on for iPAQ 310 user. And it is free of course… via

Just installed the new software and maps Ver 30555 that was released May 2008 for the ipaq 310.
The maps are better, the unit seems to have noticable quicker times on route calculations and other GPS functions that verify the software did fix some complaints.
However, the sound level is still low to be heard over a softly playing car radio. One of my main conplaints to HP by way of their corporate web site was the sound level is low. I am convinced the software driver may have an error causing the sound to be at least 10dB lower than planned. Could be just one decimal point in some software is the root cause of this as the hardware seeme to be robust enaough to generate the sounds properly.
Another complinat I had was the speech was not American but British English which has a lot of accent differences that make the route speech quality annoying and difficult to understand.
The next software relaese likley will have the sound fixed as I am convinced the manufacturer is well aware of this as it is a long time complaint even with the 314 version sold in UK.
