Navstar announced a new product called Voice Navigator that uses your existing cell phone’s data plan. The device pictured above seems to be a bluetooth enabled GPS receiver that does not seem to have any storage of its own for points of interests or maps but probably connects to a NAVTEQ server for this information using your minutes.

The press release also suggests that maps are retrieved dynamically from a centrally located server.

Each quarter, NavStar will integrate freshly updated NAVTEQ map data for the United States to its server, providing users optimal routing information.

Voice Navigator does not have many buttons – or a touch screen for that matter trying to make your navigating experience completely eyes-free through a voice recognition and response system. Another nice feature is that Voice Navigator also allows for planning your trip on the internet and giving you the option to access your directions with the touch of a button.

We may like this screen-free navigation after all… via
