Tracky is an off-road navigation software that can be used during various outdoor activities such as hiking, sailing, skiing, etc. If you’ve taken your auto navigation system into the woods you probably realized that it becomes more of a paper weight than a navigation device. Without roads most can’t function. That’s why you might need an off-road navigation software.
Tracky will run on any PDA or mobile phone with Microsoft PocketPC 2003 or higher such as Windows Mobile 5 or 6. It will work with any GPS receiver – bluetooth or wired – that is NMEA-0183 compatible.
Tracky also supports Google Maps so you can overlay your positional data on top of satellite and/or street maps if your handheld device has some sort of internet access. If Google Maps is not good enough for you can also import and calibrate maps of your own.
The latest version that just got released last week has the following highlights:
- record and share tracks you walk/drive/etc
- online GoogleMaps: free maps anywhere you go
- GPX support: direct import in GoogleEarth
- follow your buddies and chat with them
You can download the trial version for free but it is only good for 15 minutes. You better decide fast! The full version costs 30 €.
UPDATE: In reality you can re-start Tracky as many times as you want after each 15 minute interval. So trial period is not limited to 15 minutes only.
