Nokia N82 has A-GPS

Nokia put an A-GPS chip on their new phone Nokia N82. Their other big hit – N95 – had a few issues at first with A-GPS but they had figured it out with a new firmware.
We don’t have any reviews on the performance of the GPS receiver on N82 just yet but hopefully it will work right out of the box without needing any firmware upgrades.
A few other cool features include WiFi, FM Tuner, 5 MP digital camera with Xenon flash,Carl Zeiss lens, and autofocus.
Nokia N82 will come out in Europe and will cost about 450 €. It will probably come to the States beginning of 2008.
A-GPS and preinstalled Nokia Maps help you explore and locate new places, whether in another country or just around the corner. All Nokia N82 standard sales packages come with a free voice guided navigation trial, and you can purchase additional features, such as city guides and longer subscription to the navigation.
In case you are wondering Nokia Maps are free to download but if you want voice guided navigation you will have to pay some money. For only one day it’ll cost you 6,49 €, one month will cost you 8 €, a whole month for 60 €, and a whole year for 70 €.

I bought the Nokia N82 last week. Did you notice that the rated stand-by time is up to 225 hours? That’s crazy eh!
Did you also know that you can plug the Nokia N82 into your television set to show your friends all of your media on a large format screen using the TV-Out cable that comes with the phone? Suh-weet!
I am very disappointed with the GPS on my new N82. Maps ran for three days and then needs to be “purchased”, I understand the Voice direction ‘buying’ , however, the routing needs to come with the “GPS” function or they need to not list “GPS” as a function…at $600.00 I would expect more (works great with google-FREE maps). While the routing worked, it was very hard to use as typing a lot of information is needed…that or three days is to short to figure out the quick ways to use it ( I had read previously that it was a 30 day trial which would be a frair amount of time). That or a keyboard needs to be used….With a small screen/keys it is a poor use, my Treo with TomTom (about the same size screen) is wonderful, however the N82 does not offer that. using the TomTom only a small amount of information is needed to be up and running vs. all the data that has to be typed into the N82…sad that Nokia does such a great job on all the other functions and missed the boat on their GPS….IMHO…The camera is outstanding as well as the CELL and how everything fits together…

Very dissapointed in the cost for guided GPS.I could have bought a stand alone unit for the same 1 year subscription cost.I wouldn’t even mind $20/yr for updates.One of my main reasons for the N82 purchase was for GPS.
I have been using a cheap Piva for over a year at no additional cost for voice guided nav.The only drawback is updates.I love my N82 otherwise, but I’ll never buy from Nokia again because I feel I’ve been decieved.
the gps on the n82 sucks you cant use tom tom as it wont find the gps device what a con.

The GPS works perfectly, but I bought my phone in HK. NOkia Maps works and Garmin GPS software also work great from day 1. Which is over 5 months ago. You just gotta know how to use the phone i guess…cheers!

N82 CAN USE GARMIN MOBILE SOFTWARE AND WORKS WITH BUILT IN GPS RECIEVER, AND DOES NOT USE NETWORK TO GUIDE UNLIKE NOKIA MAPS. AND IN THE RIGHT PLACES, IS FREE HEHEHEHE

built in gps of the nokia n82 is below average performance as tested, slow to lock up locations, tried using it on places with lots of buildings and i cannot get a lock on my location,
have used both garmin (can use the n82 gps) and the nokia maps, by far nokia maps works for me rather than garmin, been able to locate my position within a minute (considering im on a bus on an open area) but lost my signal when in places were there were lots of buildings..
if you need a reliable gps, forget the n82 or better yet purchase a separated gps reciever..
Barton, how did you get Garmin to operate on the N82? Can you buy the software separately, because Nokia maps does not cover my country so for me garmin is important. Also I have a separate bluetooth GPS receiver…can this be connected to the N82?
erskinmay, both TomTom 6.02 and GarminMobileXT work well with my N82 builtin GPS. You can buy Garmin but cannot buy TomTom because only hacked version of TomTom supports internal GPS. So find out which program has better maps of your location and go for one.

Guys, Please to check out Garmin Mobile XT software for symbian S60 3rd at Garmin official site. This works well on my N82. The built-in GPS receiver of N82 will works for this.
