Navigon 2120 for Canada
Published on November 14th, 2007 in gps navigation, navigon
Navigon just extended its presence in North America to Canada with a new model from the 2100 series called Navigon 2120.
Standard features of Navigon 2120 are the text-to-speech functionality, and the reality view which promises to bring 3D, photo-realistic views of complex interchanges, complete with road geometry and actual road signs to your dashboard. Other than that the Navigon 2120 is a pretty basic GPS navigation system that has a 3.5″ touch screen and preloaded maps of Canada (also U.S. ?).
Navigon 2120 will hit retail stores (specifically Future Shop) this holiday season and will sell for $300 CAD. Live traffic info and Zagat Survey Ratings are not standard on 2120 but you can add these for an extra $140 CAD.
And yes, of course it announces driving directions and street names in both English and Canadian French.

Just purchased the 2120 unit at Future Shop. Graphics are as shown in the pic above and even with a 3.5″ screen, once used, the units size becomes quite acceptable. No overbearing coloring to distract you while driving. This unit has as many features as some of the more expensive models. This is a gps only. Setup is a snap, settings are clear. This gps does an awesome job. This unit is so user friendly it does not even come packaged with a manual. I am a pilot and gps user and believe me 200 page manuals don’t make for a user friendly gps. Nice job Navigon.

why I can’t search such as Walmart , future shop etc. in Toronto? Are there stored in the POI map?

I just got my 2120 yesterday and so far I am very happy with it. I tried a few others and so far this is the best for the money. It is easy to use and it has very good up to date maps especially in Canada. I have had no trouble with the POI’s. Walmart does show up as well as almost any POIs you want it to show. I would give it a very good rating so far.

Why doesn’t this “awesome” unit that comes loaded with maps……..have current maps? For example when I search main street names that have been around for 10 years…..nothing registers. The system is slow to respond to my touch. Can I download current maps…….no instructions or help anywhere. So far disappointed.

Lawrence maps are not even close to being up to date. I am a real estate agent and have used cheaper models with updating features available on line. The navigon 2120 is far from up to date. Streets that are 3 years old don’t appear.

Feb 11 2008 - I would recommend you do not purchase the navigon products simply because they do not have a repair depot in North America and parts are not available to repair these units. Mine came from Future Shop, I dropped it on a cold morning and broke the lense. The Future Shop returned it - unable to repair - parts not available. The customer service number at 888-848-0701 says they don’t have a repair depot for North America.

If you call customer service for Navigon, ask to speak to an agent call Lorenz. He will go above and beyond to help and provide you with what you need.

Dave, Whats wrong wit your SD card, If your screen frozed, there’s a reset hole that you can push with a tootpick to reboot the unit.

Dave,
You know that you can backup your map from your navigon SD card to your computer? For some readon my backup SD is working better than my original SD because i never it seen my navigon frozed again. I put away the orignal SD for safekeeping.

There’s a program called Navigon Fresh that you can donwload for free and it has the utility to backup and restore the SD data.

or you can just copy and paste your SD content to your hard drive.

I like the Navigon 2120. Does anyone know if there is a way to connect this to a computer and get map updates?

i bought the 2120 at future shop. on their website it says that the unit comes with a USB cable to attach to your computer. when i opened the box there was no such cable. i tried to return it to future shop and they told me that they can’t take it back and give me a new unit that has the cable because the box was opened!?!?!?!?!? does this make sense? how was i supposed to know there was no USB cable inside the box? otherwise, the unit is great, but future shop sucks.

Thank you all for getting back to me.
The problem is: I got an error saying invalid/ not compatible map files and i believe the map files are on the SD card. I read on other forums that some devices come with corrupted SD card and i think mine is one of them.
If you guys have ideas/solutions please share
Thanks again

Jesus, Fred! The present tense of the word is “freeze”. The past tense is “froze”. THERE IS NO SUCH WORD AS “FROZED”, which you used TWICE! Shit!

How can I get maps for my Navigon 2100. I live in the US and wants to travel to Canada
July 16th, 2008 at 8:06 am
Gillian:
The 2100 comes only with maps of the US. I believe you need to get the 2120 SD for maps for US & Canada. Hope this helps.

I bought my Navigon 7100 to use on a holiday trip. It was in the first 5 days when I discovered the local Wal-Mart wasn’t in the system. The road that the store was on or any other store on the street was missing. Wal-Mart had been here for 3 years that told me the map in my new navigon 7100 was at least 3 years old. I phoned navigon and the nice man told me I had to purchase the map updates for $79.95 I said I couldn’t understand why, the machine is only 6 days old. He insisted that I had to buy the new updates but I refused. Since then I have found many errors in the system. Navigon can’t find its way around New Brunswick very well. Navigon doesn’t know where The Trance Canada Highway is in that province. Navigon had me going the wrong way on a one-way street in St John. We visited friends in Woodstock that lived in a house that had been built about 30 years ago navigon didn’t know that the street was even there. I would not recommend this GPS to anyone. You would be better of with a map and a compose. I paid $329.00 for a guessing game piece of junk. If Navigon can’t stand behind there product I’ll slam them every chance I get Eldon Booth
