GuardTrax’s new GPS / GSM tracking device just got its FCC approval. GuardTrax is specially designed for security guards who watch a certain building / asset. It uses GPS (Global Positioning System) to acquire the location of a security officer on duty. It also gathers other data such time, heading, speed etc… Then, using GSM/GPRS networks, GuardTrax transmits the data to a remote server which processes and posts the data to a GIS web-based mapping application that includes satellite imagery. If there’s an emergency the server will also alert supervisors via email or a text message.
Guards -who now won’t be able to sleep on the job- will also be able to initiate outgoing voice calls using the red panic button. While the GPS and GSM status LEDs inform the user if network connectivity is in place, the integrated motion detector can automatically update and send status messages without any interaction.
Guardtrax comes with a 2000mAh lithium-Ion battery pack and also has an integrated speaker which pretty much allows you to use the device as a basic cell phone.
A couple of other cool features include the ability to remotely build a security geo-fence around the post to be monitored. And if one of your guards crosses this border for any reason GuardTrax will inform the base. Also all operational parameters can be set over-the-air (OTA).
