Magellan Roadmate 1200
A couple of websites are talking about the Magellan RoadMate 1200 which is no where to be found on Magellan’s own website making people think it is a really basic model prepared just for Black Friday. Magellan 1200 has a 3.5″ anti-glare touchscreen and apparently uses Centrality Atlas II GPS receiver as opposed to SiRF Star III.

The onboard memory has maps of the continental US, Hawaii and Puerto Rico already loaded in addition to 1.3 million points of interest. Other features include voice guidance helping you keep your hands on the road and QuickSpell which eliminates letters that are not found in its memory while entering addresses

You can find it online for as low as $200… via gpspassion and GPS TrackLog

FYI, Centrality is now owned by SiRF, and so this Magellan utilitzed a SiRF Atlas II system-on-chip (SoC), which provides not just GPS, but graphics and media support as well.

I found all kind of info about the Magellan RoadMate 1200 GPS Navigation, including there site. The cheapest I found it was 124.99. From what I’ve read it sounds great and the price is awesome. I don’t expect it to perform like my factory installed one in my truck. I also paid a lot more for it.

Go to circuit city for the cheap price. I think it’s today only, online orders.

The Magellan site says the unit uses a SirfStarIII chipset. Anybody know whats really in this unit?

    greetings,
I’m considering purchasing the Magellan RoadMate 1200 GPS Navigation device, and I was wondering if maps are available and could be uploaded for various local areas? In particular, forest areas around Johnsondale, CA, and Ski areas suchas Big Bear, CA and Mnt. Baldy, CA? All I’ve sean at the mega-stores like Circuit City, are road maps, but the sales people say “sure you can upload all kinds of maps”. Well I don’t want to pay $150 or more, then when I’m out hiking or skiin, have an empty screen.

I have a number Magellan products. Does anyone know how I could either use a new SD card with other data - routes, waypoints, etc. from other Magellan software? What about how to download European data.

Got it. Love it. A steal at twice the price.

Exit POI does not work and needs a patch per customer service.
Magellan says all 1200 models with same problem. Mine purchased in Feb.2008.
I do not see other bloggers with this problem.

Rich, I’ve got the same problem with my newly purchased (6/28/08) Roadmate 1200, so I guess Magellan hasn’t got the software guys working on it yet.
