TomTom yesterday announced their high end model GO 920. New distinctive features of the new GO 920 which is expected to cost $600 (and $700 for 920T) are:
- 4GB internal memory which contains maps of USA, Canada, and most of Europe
- voice prompted address entry so you can keep your hands on the wheel even when entering addresses
- enhanced positioning technology uses movement and gravity sensors to calculate drivers’ positions when GPS signals are unavailable
- Bluetooth remote control to enable drivers (or others) to operate the device safely from anywhere in the car
Most of these features do not exist on comparable Garmins which usually cost several hundred dollars more!! We’ll do a better comparison of these two very soon.
Other features and some specs of GO 920:
- 4.3″ widescreen 16:9 format LCD (WQVGA 480×272)
- CPU 400 MHz, 64MB RAM
- SD card slot
- High sensitivity GPS receiver
- Compatible with RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver and TomTom’s subscription based traffic service
- Integrated FM Transmitter
- Bluetooth
- Lithium-polymer battery (up to 5 hours operation)
- Optimized integrated microphone and speaker for high quality hands-free functionality
In case you are still wondering the 920T is same as 920 but it also comes with RDS-TMC traffic receiver which makes for the $100 difference. You get one year subscription when you get the GO 920T model.
Both GO 920 and GO 920T will be available 4th quarter of this year.
