Review of GPS navigation on Nokia N800

People at LinuxDevices published a review of the GPS navigation kit for Nokia N800. It sounds like a lot of things went wrong during their review but they still thought it would please casual suburban users who need an automobile navigation system.

Next, we tested the device on a train trip to San Francisco. Even in the skylight-lined observation car, the receiver failed to get a fix on its location. When this pattern repeated itself while walking around San Francisco’s urban canyons, we actually thought we might have received a defective unit. However there were a few positive things about the GPS Navigation Kit for Nokia N800 as well. First off it had an extensive POI library which they think makes $218 price tag worth it. Also the battery is replaceable so if the Li-Ion starts showing poor performance you’ll have the freedom to change it.

The navigation kit consists of the LD-3W bluetooth GPS receiver, 2 GB memory card containing navigation software from Navicore and maps of Europe or North America from TeleAtlas… via
