For Dummies, the series of books that tries to simplify complex technologies and subjects for consumers, has announced that they will produce GPS Navigation For Dummies, a GPS navigation device with a 3.5″ touch screen. The product was co-developed by Wiley Publishing (owner of the For Dummies brand) and the Maylong Group, a Detroit-area technology company. The device is also known as FD35.
The new GPS Navigation For Dummies devices features technology from the Maylong Group - whose CEO Ming Wang helped design and implement the OnStar telematics and navigation system - backed by an exceptionally clear, helpful interface from the For Dummies creative team.
Here are the features of FD35:
- 3.5″ touch screen
- 2.0 GB memory card
- digital mapping with browsing capability
- text-to-speech navigation, turn by turn, using actual street names
- complete mapping of North America: the U.S. plus Canada
- 2 million POIs
- included MP3 player and eBook reader
Other releases are in the pipeline featuring a wider 4.3″ screen as well as internet connectivity for traffic data and other information. GPS navigation for Dummies by Maylong is expected to begin shipping by mid-October 2007 to retailers. The system will also come with Italian for Dummies for obvious reasons… via
