NY Taxis want no GPS
May 25, 2007 gps navigation, misc news
Taxi commission of New York just recently voted to install GPS systems in 13,000 cabs and limousines. The device is expected to cost over $7000 for the cab owners with really no benefit to drivers.
Righteously they are opposed to the idea, since it may actually cut down their profits due to the fees charged by credit card companies every time passengers pay with plastic using the device.
Other conveniences the GPS system offers for customers is to be able map out where the cab is going and find information about restaurants and bars on their routes.
The drivers also raised concerns about the taxi commission tracking their movements even though they have expressed that they’re only interested in the pickup and drop-off points and fare… via
