Rino 520HCx and 530HCx from Garmin
May 11, 2007 garmin, gps navigation

Garmin just recently announced their new additions to the Rino series, 520HCx and 530HCx, which combine a two way radio with a GPS receiver. The two-way radios keeps you in touch with your friend who could be up to 14 miles away. The battery can last for 14 hours which a great considering the 176 x 220 pixels color screen. The difference between 520HCx and 530HCx is that latter also integrates a seven-channel weather receiver (with automatic weather alert capabilities), an electronic compass and barometric altimeter. 520HCx costs $450 and 530HCx costs $500. That’s a lot of extras for only $50!
Rino 520HCx and 530HCx devices come with what’s called a base map which covers North and South America, and displays cities, highways, and borders. Thanks to the new microSD card slot you can now purchase pre-programmed MapSource Topo maps for hiking or hunting adventure, City Navigator NT maps for turn-by-turn driving directions, or BlueChart or Inland Lakes maps for on- the-water voyages.
