Nokia N95 – we still can’t see the GPS antenna
Apr 10, 2007 gps navigation, nokia, phones

Did you know Nokia N95 is now available in U.S.? Well it is. We mentioned the N95 couple of weeks ago and by that time it was unknown when it would be show up in North America. So we just converted the price from € to $ and came up with $730. We were almost right on target. According to Gizmodo N95 will initially be retailed in select stores in Chicago and New York for $750. What worried us about the N95 was the position of its GPS receiver chip. We know that it is hidden somewhere under few layers of plastic but weren’t sure.
So this dude decided to disassemble his brand new Nokia N95 and posted the pics on Flickr. He was able to spot where the bluetooth, WiFi, GSM, and WCDMA antennas are but not the GPS antenna. We paid really close attention to the pics but still couldn’t spot the GPS antenna.
Help us out. No need to register to leave comments.

Probably the GSM/WCDMA antenna is also used for GPS …

In picture number 3 (towards the right of the picture) you can see the grey plastic bottom of the phone. Could that be an antenna printed on it (the minty green/gold bit)?

There antenna is actually built in to the keypad area of the handset, which is why when you use the GPS function you are erquired to slide the handset keypad open.

just like James (post #2) mentioned, on the right side of the picture is a small plastic piece with some sort of a conductor on it which is an antenna. Now, I’m not sure if it’s the gps or not but it is an antenna. Since the gsm/wcdma antenna is on the top part of the phone, and bluetooth/wlan is on the side it kind of leaves you with no other options.
At Rupz (post #4), usually under the film that is part of the keypad PCB there’s a conductor going all the way around which a lot of times is the negative potential of the electron flow (electricity). Very doubtful it would be used for an antenna as well.

the GPS antenna is located in the bottom section of the phone where the charger block, and usb connector is located. It is under the hash key.

The GPS antenna is under neath the “#” pad where the USB input slot is. You will have to unscrew it and will find a green copper colour attena shaped.
