new bluetooth GPS receiver from Holux: M1000
Mar 27, 2007 bluetooth, gps navigation

Holux introduced a new bluetooth GPS receiver in Hannover Germany, called M1000. There’s nothing special about the shape or size of this bluetooth GPS receiver or even the chipset. Instead of using SiRF, Holux went with Mediatek for supplying the GPS receiver. The M-1000 comes with integrated rechargeable Li-Ion battery with 850mAh capacity that should last about 17 hours (we’ve seen better). Bottom line is the new M1000 is designed to be a budget bluetooth GPS receiver.
Note the mini-USB port: That’s only for charging the device. Not connecting to your laptop or PDA… via

A lot of negative comment for a device that meets budget conscious buyers who want the best performance GPS. Ok, so it doesn’t run 24 hours but I think that 17 hours is pretty good considering the Globalsat BT-338 has been given excellent accolades and runs for the same time and that there are still some bluetooth GPS only giving 8 to 12 hours usage time. The other factor that makes this GPS a beauty is the expected retail price that will no doubt bring it close to the $50USD mark something very few if any GPS manufacturer can do. Your review is very narrow in content and simplistic to say the least.

Fully agree with Nicko’s posting. I have a Holux M-1000 and it has been running for 22 hours without a recharge. It is one of very few GPs receivers I have tested that remains stable to 568 Knots ( 1052Km/h) or 653 Mph.
For the price I believe you will have to shop around for a long time to get a better GPS receiver. Believe me I have tested a lot of them and seen fiew that compare!

I needed a GPS for trekking & driving. The size isnt too large for my bacpack. Infact the superb running time saves me lots of recharge. The built is sturdy, good and it feels nice on the hand. The setelite tracking is about as mentioned and it can detect even when i am in my house, near the window at least. The setup is like any other, Holuxes at least… works like a charm. U dont need smaller devices nor do u need a Sirfstar (expensive chip). U woudnt regret buying this well priced device even for the heck of it. Btw i am using it with Mapking software which complements it. Enjoy!

I just got this gadget, but am having problems uploading anything into my laptop. Even with a USB cable. Can someone tell me how they had success in uploading data into a Map software?

Hi chico,
As far as i know, Holux M1000 doesn’t have a track recorder, so there’s nothing to download from it to your laptop. It’s just a bluetooth GPS receiver for your gps or mapping software.
You can also connect it via USB to pc, but you have to buy their cable, cos the pinout is different from a common USB cable. A common USB cable can only be used for charging.
By the way, i’m just about to buy a new GPS receiver, still comparing. Can someone advise me if i have to go for Holux M1000 or Qstarz Q818 which has 32 hrs usage & 32 channels? Qstarz have good reviews already. Thanks
Cheers…

Can’t find any gps receiver that will pair with two devices–my Nikon SLR and my laptop running Google Earth plus (live tracking). I have a Holux gpslim. Do I need to get a second gps receiver and pair it with another passcode i.e.
one with 0000 and one with 1234?

This is an excellent piece of gear. I’m a private pilot and use Flightmaster GPS software on a Palm E2. The Holux M-1000 connects very quickly to the Palm via Bluetooth without having to do anything to either the Holux or the Palm. I’m replacing a Garmin Etrex which had to sit on right under the windscreen in order to get minimal GPS reception. This little Holux worked perfectly from a side pouch on my flight bag. I had a minimum of 12 satellites at all times. The only time I had to take it out of the pouch was to turn it on and off.
For $40 it can’t be beat.

I have two questions to ask. 1.) Can Holux M1000 work successfully with Samsung Omnia?, and 2.) Where/how can I get it in India.
