Fugawi Global Navigator
Mar 8, 2007 gps navigation, reviews, software
Fugawi Global Navigator is a PC software for GPS navigation on land, sea, or air. Doesn’t matter if you are close to a road or not. It lets you navigate in real time using a variety of digital maps, such as NOAA RNC, topo maps, street maps, or your own scanned paper maps. Included in $120 price tag you also get Fugawi PDA Edition for Palm and Pocket PC that can do 3D viewing.
If you consider buying a GPS navigator for your handheld device you might want to read this review first. Or for our lazy readers we have the pros and cons right here:
Pros:
- Able to track position off-road and navigate you back to starting point;
- Has topographic maps of Canada available (one of very few);
- PC application can accept a wide variety of map formats – even scanned in paper maps!
Cons:
- Need to run the PC application to load PPC application and to create & download maps;
- PDA maps are raster only, so excessive zooming in will produce pixelization;
- Maps available (topo and streets) are somewhat old;
- Missing trip computer functions in the PDA version.

Funny store about the origin of the name “Fugawi”. It comes from a question that one of the founders asked while driving across the country: “Where the Fugawi?” (Say is slowly…)
