more on Bushnell ONIX 400
Feb 23, 2007 bushnell, gps navigation

We thought we’d mention a few more details about Bushnell’s ONIX 400 we talked about last month.
The Bushnell ONIX 400 is actually mini weather station right in the palm of your hand. In addition to offering GPS navigation, and XM Radio, you also get a real-time XM weather system.
This is revolutionary because instead of getting weather data for your region, the system isolates your location (down to a “cell”) and provides the specific weather data surrounding just you. The ONIX 400 Weather Tracker also tracks the specific weather events along your personal route and final destination. So set your destination and this in-depth weather data will be continuously updated and displayed on the GPS map along that path.
Like we mentioned before the Bushnell is offered at a great price ($500) when you compare its functions with other portable GPS devices out there.
Some of the other features include the ability to layer weather info on screen with aerial and satellite photos and topography maps, enhanced sports scoreboard with user interface, sports statistics and scores, an embedded 64Mb MicroSD card for data and map services; and rechargeable Li-Ion battery… via

Have one on backorder. Printed out the user manual to take a good look. Questions: What are the actual outside dimensions of the unit? Also, looking at the photos it looks like they have the same battery design as the ONIX 200. Is there a porpose for the dome battery? Wouldn’t a flat battery be easier to carry in a pocket?

Can you send me a copy of the manual or the site you got it so I can review this product in-depth.
thank you

Anyone out there use this thing beyond the lower 48? Bushnell says their maps are proprietary, and thus; other digital topos will not work on this unit. Pity the maps I’ve found are kinda’ weak. I imagine the sat-photos are equally lower-48-centric, but ultimately, who knows? Anyone have any experience here?

Dimensions from Amazon on the Onix 400 were 8.3″x11.5″x9.6″ inches and 2 pounds. Seems kinda big and heavy or maybe it’s just me?

The promotional data reads great-does the equipment work outside the us of a?I live and walk in ireland .How good is support from HQ?If responses from HQ are any indication of genuine support then I would have concerns about buying the unit.

I have to say, that I can not agree with you in 100%, but that’s just my opinion, which indeed could be wrong.
p.s. You have an awesome template for your blog. Where have you got it from?

Now, if they would just fix the firmware, this could still be a nice unit.
