Yes, this GPS based system actually projects your speed and direction on your windshield so you don’t have look down to read your dashboard. Just like jet fighter planes. The image may look like it is only a rendering of a concept device, but apparently these guys will receive this device via FedEx to do a review in the next week or so. It is manufactured by a company called GlobalTop and is officially named GPS HUD Speed Meter – it will be displayed at CeBIT.

Here are some of the features:

  • displays speed and direction
  • speed warning function which can be set up by user
  • receives 32 channels ensuring high accuracy speed and position information
  • integration via Bluetooth for connection to Smartphone or PDA navigation programs

Not sure how and why this device would need to talk to your PDA though. Maybe to setup those speed limit warnings… We’ll keep you posted.

Very cool… the BT connection to PDA should allow you to utilize as standard BT GPS with your own software with the added value of the HUD of speed and direction. It would be VERY cool if they could integrate with your PDA nav app and display next turn and other navigation info via HUD.

How much? Where can I buy one? I have a street/strip car, that has no provision on the trans, to drive a mechanical or electrical speedo. This GPS/speedometer would work perfectly for me, as long as the price is within reason.

Please don’t be fooled by this product i used it, In the day time even with the window tint i could’t see the speed. A Hud should put the speed clear as a day.
Real Hud will have a lens on the top of the leds with all this thing is a like a clock radio that you can see time in the dark do not buy this product.

This is a useful gadget but not well designed, especially for right-hand drive cars which require the power inlet on the opposite side of the unit.
There is no tilt adjustment to cater for different windscreen/dashboard slopes.
Also, the unit does not switch on automatically when ignition switched on. It is necessary to switch it on manually each time and this is annoying and near impossible for a short person whose arms will not reach the unit on the dash.

Not the best looking gadget but can be something that is used often. Thanks for sharing.
