Linux UMPC with GPS
Feb 7, 2007 gps navigation, umpc

According to some sources this Chinese built UMPC, named H9, runs on Linux and comes with embedded GPS functionality.
Some of the features of this mysterious GPS integrated UMPC includes:
- 7-inch TFT touch screen (800 x 480)
- Wi-Fi
- GPRS/CDMA connectivity
- PCMCIA and SD card slots
- USB port
- headphone jack and microphone
- 4000 mAh lithium battery
- built-in speakers
A quick scan of current and upcoming UMPCs reveals that the H9, despite its ridiculously meager 20GB hard drive, may really be in class of its own. Powered by a rather outdated 520MHz Intel PXA270 processor, the H9 runs Linux with a preinstalled application suite that has the potential of pleasing even long-time Windows users: mobile office, email, multimedia player, photo editor, business-card manager, PDF viewer, and some kind of recording and multimedia file manager.
The H9 doesn’t pack any serious computing power but isn’t UMPC all about portability and flexibility? We think the H9 is ready to deliver that with Linux OS and a strong 4000mAh battery. We’ll let you know how and when we can get one of these in North America or Europe soon. However if you’re a distributor you can get about 500 units for about $490. Which means if it ever travels West it’ll cost about $1000. via and this
