Google Maps on Windows Mobile supports GPS

google-maps-mobile-533.jpgGoogle Maps team just announced the release of Google Maps for Windows Mobile (2003 or higher) devices. All you have to do is visit GMM on your wireless device or Google Maps from your PC. And the most important thing to note here is that Google Maps on Windows Mobile supports GPS data – you’ll be shown on the map as a blue dot.

When you think about it you’ll come to realize that soon we won’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on stand-alone GPS navigation devices. Eventually we’ll all be 3G enabled and have access to really cheap data services on our mobile devices. With broadband wireless internet we’ll have the latest maps from Google and unlimited POI’s all the time; not ever needing to upgrade to new maps and such.

In fact Google Maps for Windows Mobile has already a lot more functions than most GPS navigation devices. You get real-time traffic, directions (of course), integrated search results for local businesses, and satellite imagery.

If you don’t have integrated GPS receiver on your mobile device you may want to get a blutooth GPS receiver.
