Asus A696 and A686 which we told you about back in CES 2007 is now official, with a press release on Asus’ website.
They announced these two devices as “Ultra Slim GPS PDA Sparkles with High Quality Feel” which is what we thought when we first saw them. One other thing caught our attention in their press release is that both devices appear to have 802.11 Wi-Fi connectivity whereas we said only A696 would have that feature. In fact we have a photo of the boxes of both devices and you can clearly see that A686 is not advertised with Wi-Fi. We’ll see soon if they change the press release or print new boxes :)
The other difference between A696 and A686 is their processor power and memory:
A686: Intel XScale 312Mhz processor, 128MB Flash ROM, 64MB SDRAM
A696: Intel XScale 416Mhz processor, 256MB Flash ROM, 64MB SDRAM
