GPS drawing
Jan 6, 2007 gps navigation

GPS drawing is an ongoing project, and probably a new form of art as well. Take the above image for example which was drawn over 18 acres, while traveling more than 17 miles. The idea is to exhibit these GPS drawings as printed editions and sculptures formed by “writing over the earth” and drawing with ourselves as we move.
To get this unique representation of the drawings a software called GPSograph has been developed which allows 3D visualization and animation of GPS tracks. What kind of GPS device you are going to use up to you, since most of todays GPS receiver are capable of tracking your movements. You can go with a navigation device that can actually let you see what you’ve drawn so far, or you can go with a cheaper handheld that stores all the waypoints in its memory later to be downloaded onto a computer – or you just simply go with a GPS tracking device.
We could not find where to download the GPSograph software from but gpsdrawing does give you some other options as well as a huge gallery to give you some ideas.
