i-Blue 757 solar bluetooth gps receiver
Published on December 27th, 2006 in bluetooth, gps navigation
Transystem i-Blue 757 is a solar powered bluetooth GPS receiver. What makes the i-Blue 757 unique is its space saving clamshell design. Manufactured by Transystem of Taiwan, these devices contain the 16 channel Nemerix GPS receiver and also have an embedded rechargeable 1000mAh Li-Ion battery. Without seeing any daylight it should run for about 30 hours, and upto 100 if you can harness the power of the sun.
Permanent Standby - Now this is a very, very smart feature. At the expense of an itsy bitsy consumption of battery power the Bluetooth stack on the i-Blue 757 is kept alive even when no connection is active. As soon as your PocketPC or Smartphone or Notebook establish a Bluetooth connection the 757 will wake up the GPS receiver part, and thanks to the chipset’s sensitivity will regain a fix within a few seconds. Once the Bluetooth connection is terminated the GPS module goes back to sleep. via

The i-Blue 757 looks very similar (identical) to the solar Keomo which is being marketed in UK/Europe. Their web site and sellers can be found searching Google for Keomo solar bluetooth GPS.

I HAVE BEEN USING THE DEVICE FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW. WAS HARD TO GET IT TO WORK AT FIRST AS IT DID NOT CONNECT WITH EITHER GOOGLE EARTH OR MS STREETS AND TRIPS 2005. EVEN PAID GOOGLE EARTH THE $20 TO UPGRADE TO PRO WITH NO LUCK. G EARTH WILL ONLY CONNECT WITH A MAGELLEN OR GARMIN DEVICE. THEN I TRIED UPGRADING FROM MS S&T 2005 TO 2007 AND THAT WAS THE CURE. I EVEN WAS ABLE TO TRACK FROM THE WINDOW OF OUR STATEROOM WAY BELOW DECK ON THE MV ZAANDAM ON A CRUISE UP TO ALASKA AND KNEW EXACTLY WHERE WE WERE AT ALL TIMES WITH A TRACK DISPLAYED AS WELL. ALL IN ALL VERY HAPPY WITH THIS DEVICE. I DRIVE TRUCK AND NOW DO NOT LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT.

Great invention, utilizing the sun’s energy to conserve fuel or battery.

Hi!
Hey Phil, I’m debating on getting this model GPS….and I LOVE Streets & Trips. We’ve been using the Microsoft GPS that comes with it and we love the trailing function for our travels. Does this GPS do well with the blue line trail tracking? I also would like using it via bluetooth with my IPAQ 4150 PDA which I export maps to.
I would love to here of others experiences with this but have had a hard time finding info.
Todd :-)

I purchased a 757 from ncix.com and am using it to track and navigate my trip through France. NCIX is a Canadian online computer store. I paid $100 for the device. The software is a little hokey (I develop software for a living) and is in what I would call beta stage. No software is perfect and it seems to get the job done. I am using Linux Xubuntu on a Dell CPi Pentium 2, 366Mhz and am able to navigate over the USB connection with GPS drive and download the logged data using Wine and installing and running the software that comes with the device.

Solar power is nice to have, but not an essential feature for GPS. For more selection of handheld GPS, you may visit selectagps.com:
