We thought we had covered all MyGuide GPS navigation systems but it looks like we missed one. Today we have the V7 MyGuide 1000, which seems to be the North American version of V7 PMD 1400. The products look identical however the pre-loaded maps are different. The one on NewEgg has maps of 50 US States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, Western Europe incl UK, Scandinavia, The MyGuide V7 sells for $250 which is a good price for a product that offers the most comman basic features such as 3.5″ touch screen, integrated battery and speaker, and an SD slot.

I just bought a brand new V7 Navigation 1000 PNA at Future shop (Canadian Hi-tech shop)
I have a question about the downloading of European cards for this American V7 1000 version but they could not answer to my question.

I hope you would help me more.

    My question is :

    - Can I find and download European cards for this V7 Navigation 1000 that I just bought in Canada ?

    - If yes , what is the price of the downloading for the European cards ?

    Thanks for your help

  2. Richard says:

Try emailing V7 (their email is on the back of the box). You could also try http://www.myguidegps.com (makers of the software) and if that fails http://www.navshop.com/en/index.php (makers of the actual maps).

If you do get in contact with anyone, could you let me know? Updated maps would be very nice.. the ones included appear to be quite inaccurate and outdated.

    Hello,
I was wondering if their are any updates on the card because their are a few roads i need to go on that are not showing up on my gps. I think it may be an old map service

Just bought this unit for my son.
Really surprised at the lack of instructions for operation.
Took some time to figure it out and still are stumped at one thing.
What is the purpose of the “M” button on the upper left side?
Also this unit does not seem to be able to keep track of the time & date.
    Any suggestions?

  6. HM says:

I have the same problem as you, I will be going back to the dealer and ask for explanations. Everytime I power off, I lose all my settings.

  7. Ken says:

HM Let me know if you come up with anything.
And I’m still wondering what the “M” button does 8)

just wondering if anybody can send me a copy
of files on the original SD card for US version.
    much appreciated !!

  9. HM says:

Hi KEN, I returned it to the shop and exchange it with a new one, same type.

I will try this one and see, will let youknow as soon as I know.

The (M) button suppose to return you to the menu, I know it does not always work.

  10. Jim Wy says:

First of all, the instruction manual is on the cd that came with the device.
    Go to “My Computer”
Right click on the CD and press “Open”
    Manuals are under Manuals.
“MapLoader SD” will setup your SD card again. You could get all fancy and try to copy the “SD” folder to your card.
My “M” does not work. Aparently it’s the same as “Menu”
    Myguide.com has EU maps.
    NA maps are 2005

Press the “SAT” icon, on the right side, press “Time Sync” and leave “Auto GPS update” on. Put the PDA -500 for EST and it’ll update automatically.

Bought in Ottawa at FS for $269

  11. Ken says:

    Thankyou Jim Wy.
I had put the CD in before but it had opened up to the maps.
Didn’t see any manuals until I followed your instructions.
You got it for the same price I paid. Seems to be a good deal.
    Thanks again.

the M button is pretty useless but page above explaines that its to scroll game items :S

as the v7 is just a rebranded myguide unit

also maybe get support from this site as its their americas site even though its pretty weak…

hope this helps shed some light as it did for me…

also looking in to hacking a phonebook for lookups into the unit, put apps under the games folder and edit the addons.txt but they need to be for windows ce.net 4.2 arm processor as its hard to find stuff for it you think a lousy phonebook for NA would be a common item among PPC user :( if you add stuff to it thats not for those requirements it will give you an error msg saying unsupported wince application as its done for me because i cant find anything for 4.2 mainly everything was for 3 or 5 oh well guess because 4.2 is more a developers platform then userbased… goodluck hacking!

I also got this unit on a boxing day sale at FS. I love it as it’s very accurate, but the things that don’t work bother me the most. The (M) Button which is suppose to bring you to the Main Menu. Although this is minor to me.

Also, I’ve found that sometimes when I start the unit, it just hangs (typical Windows style) with no error message or anything. I have to turn it off and back on. Works sometimes, and not others.

I really hate the fact that settings aren’t retained (at least the time/date should be). I have mine set to sync, but I don’t always use it for the GPS feature.

I wish this unit could play MP3 while using the GPS, but no big deal. Also the lack of instructions and websites out there are killing me. There’s got to be something out there.

Anyway, I hope my next post will help out more, since I’ve emailed support about the issues I have with this unit. I just sent it, so I’ll post their reply once I receive it. I questioned all the above plus map updates and where to get them.

    Thanks,
    Dave

I just bought a V7 1000. But I can not get GPS signal most of the time. I only succeeded in getting the signal in the morming. I turned it off later and turned in back on in the evenning. But I could not get any GPS signal any more. Anybody know why?

  22. David says:

Jason, it tends to be slow at locking in to a satellite. Make sure you are in a clear area. Once locked in it should remain connected regardless of where you go (except inside some buildings). At times I’ve waited 10 minutes for it to connect.

I’m not sure why it takes so long sometimes.

The V7 is supposed to accept up to 4 gig. It’s just a simple SD card as far as I can see. The card in it now is 1 gig

  25. David says:

Yes, you can buy up to 4 gigs and load it with all the MP3’s, Movies and pictures you want.

No response to my email yet. I’ll keep you all posted.

    One more thing

Can someone please post the phone number, email and web site of the support people for this unit, I could not find it on the net.

    Thanks

  28. Andy says:

Hi guys, I just bought this unit as well. And I’m wondering if you guys have the same problems I do. Whenever I restart the unit, I have to re-insert the SD card before it will read the card and show the “Navigate” option in the main menu. Anybody else having this problem?

  29. Jim Wy says:

Yup, same here. It seems that as long as power’s applied to the unit (plugged into the charger, but w/ the unit off) it is good. But if I have the power A/C or charger removed AND it off, I have to double-pump the card to get it to recognize. Anybody else have this problem?? If everybody has it then it’s a s/w problem device wide. If only a few have it then mine will be going backw/ an exchange. PS I’m thinking about the $57 4 yr warranty now a lot more too :-) For $250+ this thing does everything I want it to, but w/o the monster price tag.

    JW

  30. Kevin says:

Yes i have most of the same issues as well…..re-insert the sd card half the time upon starting to get Navigate button. Time is out of sync and I have to reset time and time zone.
    (M) button is useless. The only beef I have is that I can’t create a route and way points on my pc and download it via USB to the V7 1000…but hey for the money it is a great unit. I usually pick up no less than 8 sats in under 90 seconds and even used it just sitting near the window in my house. it even worked walking around in the kitchen and gave me my km/h athough accuracy was compromised to the tune of 1.8-2.1 meters.
recalc also doesn’t show the shortest route or an alternate route

  31. David says:

OK, I have a bunch of information for everyone. These were my questions and the responses I got from the US company supporting them.

    1. Sometimes the Windows CE doesn’t load. The unit hangs at the MYGUIDE display screen. I am forced to turn it off and back on. Eventually it will continue, but sometimes it takes 3-4 times powering on/off before it does. Is there a way to fix that?
Response: If this continues we will replace the unit for you.

    2. When I press the top-left button labelled (M) on the unit, nothing happens. I am told it’s suppose to go to the main menu? Is the button useless?
Response: the m button does not return to the main menu as indicated in the manual. It does scroll through the choices in POI and Games.

    3. Can MP3’s play while the GPS is on?
Response: you cant use the mp3 while in navigation mode.

    4. Why isn’t the time saved after I power the unit off and back on again? I thought the time/date would retain in memory.
Response: the date and time is adjusted when you receive a gps signal you only need to change the time zone once and ignore the time and don’t change the time that appears above the time zone screens.

    5. When is the new map coming out for Canada? There is a new highway on-ramp where I live that’s been there for 2 years and it doesn’t appear on the GPS map.
Response: maps will be available in march.

Here is the contact information where I got these answers from:

I bought V7 Navigation 1000 from futureshop website during Boxing Week & I like it very much. It’s more portable, has more useful features than Garmin C330 (refurbished sold at CDN$299 during Boxing Week) and it’s GPS function was also solid. Garmin C330 was easier to use, however, it’s very hard to do route planning and it takes you more steps/clicks to setup a nearby location (cannot remember recent cities), which is quite annoying.

Besides, the AVI movie playback feature of V7 is very good & actually more useful than most people think. It’s 3.5” screen was big & clear enough to offer you same feeling as watching TV from a normal distance. So now I can watch some movies in a more relaxing way (on bed or while waiting). The 4 games offered by V7 are also decent. These are not cheap, crappy mini games, they are well designed, well presented and enjoyable.

However, the MP3 playback & especially picture viewer feature if V7 are not that practical, since it just put all files in the same list however you organize folders. Also it displays pictures & scrolls image list very slow, so it’s very hard to locate a specific picture from the long list.

Of course, in order to use above features (or to add more maps, upgrade maps in the feature), you have to buy another SD cards, better >2GB if you want to play a whole movie. Probably you also have to buy a SD reader/writer. SD cards on on sale these days both at Futureshop & Bestbuy and SD reader/writer does not cost much. This extra cost for me is less than $CDN80.

V7 Navigation does offer more value than it’s inexpensave sale price, however, many buyers would not appreciate it since this product has no printed manual or even a clear guide on where to find the pdf one. So unless you got some experience with eletronic products and even know how to handle SD cards, basically you would miss many of it’s neat feaures. You would not even navigate to USA since the USA maps were on the CD but not on the orginal SD cards! No wonder I saw many “open box” V7s in futureshop which means lots of buyers just choosed to return it with frustration.

    V7 Navigation 1000 (M) Menu-button bug fix

Those who have a V7 Navigation 1000 have probably noticed that the Menu (M) button doesn’t actually go to the menu. It doesn’t do much of anything actually (other than behave as “up” for a few menus), which is quite disappointing since there are only really 3 buttons you can use on the front (excluding the backlight on/off button) and the other two you will usually want to keep at their default functionality (zooming in and out).

Oh hey, what do you know – if you followed the instructions in my last blog entry, you will have access to change this!
1.Take the v7 sd card and put it into a card reader wich you can plug into a usb port to your compuer
2.Browse to \Flash Disk\MyGuide\ in Explorer (on the PC).
    3.Copy the 1.3mb Data.zip to your PC’s hard drive.
4.Rename the Data.zip on the GPS to Data.orig (as a backup).
5.Open the Data.zip that you copied to your PC and extract config\keybind.txt from the archive.
6.Open keybind.txt in Notepad and scroll down to the [CARPOINTA1000] section.
7.Below this, add the following line: UP=”MAINMENU”. The section will now look like this:
    [CARPOINTA1000]
    UP=”MAINMENU”
    39=”ZOOMIN_DISCRETE”
    37=”ZOOMOUT_DISCRETE”
8.Save keybind.txt and replace the original keybind.txt in Data.zip with your edited keybind.txt. Make sure that you actually replace the file and that it goes into the correct directory of Data.zip.
9.Copy the updated Data.zip back to the GPS (put it back in \Flash Disk\MyGuide\).

Done and done! You can now start MyGuide and the Menu (M) button will now behave just like going to MAIN MENU

You can actually replace MAINMENU with many other useful commands, of which ROUTEINFO is a good choice. As it is obviously the intended behavior of the Menu buttons is MAIN MENU. Have a look through keybind.txt to get an idea of what other commands you can try.

Of course, if you don’t use the zoom in/out buttons, you can change the bindings on those too.

    V7 Navigation 1000 (M) Unlocking

I have a V7 Navigation 1000 gps unit that i have managed to sort of unlock. While doing some research i think this is the same as MyGuide 3000.

Anyhow on the flash card that comes with the GPS you have a file called addons.txt , simply put this line in…

    Windows = “”, “\\”

Save it and put it back in the gps and you will have a windows button appear and then just tap on it 2 times and you are in windows ce !!

This is the U.S model and im desperately trying to get it to work with european maps and would apprechiate any input from the experts. Thanks!!

I’ve actually posted full instructions on opening up the V7 Navigation 1000 on my blog.. http://www.technofumbles.com/weblog/

It does require opening the unit and making (minor) hardware modifications to expose a USB port, so be warned that you will likely void your warranty. Having said that, it gives you full access to the device so you can change anything you want – including make bug fixes. ;)

  35. Gilles says:

    Dave,

I went thru navigating in the Myguide Folder on the Flah Memory (Not the SD Card). I noticed a licence.db file in the directory tree.

I tried to replace this file with 2 other similar files, one for the Mio and the other one from the Igo 2006 software.

In both case I received similar messages telling me either it could’nt find coordinate for the licence or that the license is for another device (Can’t recall which message came with which attempt though).

I guess if you can get a license.db from a european V7 model then you should be able to access the european maps.

Please keep me posted if you have a chance to test it with a better license.db file than I personally was.

I have the command list of IGO below:
    TILTDOWN
    TILTUP

    ROUTEINFO
    FIND_ADDRESS

    ZOOMIN
    ZOOMOUT

    ROTATELEFT
    ROTATERIGHT
    MOVELEFT
    MOVERIGHT
    MOVEUP
    MOVEDOWN
    FOLLOW_OR_ANNOUNCE
    MAINMENU
    MINIMIZE
    VOLUMEUP
    VOLUMEDOWN
    TOGGLEMUTE
    MUTE
    UNMUTE
    BRINGMAPTOTOP
    GOTOHOME
    PREVSCREEN
    SETTINGS

I map the M key to FOLLOW_OR_ANNOUNCE, so when I press it, it will tell me the route instruction again.

  52. Philpw99 says:

Also I change the IGOPATH.txt to

    [modules]
    Settings = “icons\settings.bmp”, “settings”, 1
    Multimedia= “icons\media.bmp”, “Multimedia”, 0
    Explorer = “icons\files.bmp”, “\\Windows\\Explorer.exe”

    …..

Now explorer will always available in the front.

  53. Philpw99 says:

More, to change the voice you like, take a look in “Flash Disk\data.zip”. Under “ui\settings” there is a lang.ini file. You can edit it to fit your way
For example, I use English US as the language but I will like to use the UK female voice as the guidance. So I edit that lang.ini

    ….
    [languages]
lang = “english US”, “ui\settings\flag_usa.bmp”, “English (US)”, “english_m1_us”

    I change it to
lang = “english US”, “ui\settings\flag_usa.bmp”, “English (US)”, “english_f1_uk”

Now I can enjoy the voice more while still using the US english as the language. Even though I don’t know what’s the difference between US and GB English.

I got it outdoors on my roof for about an hour now, really exposed to the sun & sky and hopefully gps signal, but i still get no gps signal. is it normal to take that long to get connected the first time?

Do your SD cards have anything on them? Did you copy the data from the original card to the second one? If you did; are you using windows operating system to copy them? because the v7 uses wince. If you can see the gps data and folders on both cards on your computer, then the problem may be your unit. Other posts show that there is a problem with some of the original SD cards that came with the unit. Could it be possible if you replaced it with another original V7 SD card that it too, is also a bad card?./

The M key issu seems to be a code problem that is only resolved by hacking the unit. The processe is detailled at url:TechnoFumbles.com – Fumbling around with technology Hacking the V7 Navigation 1000 GPS . The whole thing is rather complex and not for

I still have not bought the unit. I found that Dell sells the unit for 299$CND with Maps included on SD Card:
    a) 50 US States incl Hawaii & Alaska; Canada;Guam; Puerto Rico
    b) Western Europe incl UK, Scandinavia
    c) Complete Europe incl. Western, Central & Eastern Europe .

Anybody have any info on this.

  61. Pierre says:

Quelqu’un sait comment trouver des carte d’europe pour le Mio C210. Elle sont disponibles en Europe. Je ne réussi pas à les trouver au Canada ou aux USA. Ça semble être un problème généralisé à tous le GPS portable.

  62. Tyler says:

Hey does anybody have any idea when they are going to release the updated version of the Canada map???

  63. Dave says:

Hi Tyler – V7 tech support told me that they will have new maps available in April. I guess they will appear on the download section of their website: http://www.v7-world.com/

  64. Tyler says:

    Sweet thanks Dave!!

  65. Dave C. says:

Has anyone tried the following functions ? – they don’t work for me:
    1. Auto Night Colours – supposed to automatically switch to night colors just before sunset.
    2. Warn When Speeding
    3. Backlight-Smart Powersave

By the way, if you have trouble with the Navigation button not appearing when you turn the unit on, and have to pop the SD card out and back in to get it, call V7 and ask for a replacement SD card : 866-217-9887 (or email service@videoseven.com )

  66. Tim says:

Dave C, I emailed Ares support and they told me WARN WHEN SPEEDING does work in the US. I had no luck either also noted in NAV setting ADVANCED under display option, select one of the 3 fields (left, middle, right) for speed limit. Anybody have a clue!

  67. Ibrahim Gurel says:

    Hi everyone,

Here many people asked the same question but I couldn’t do anything with the provided answers. Is it possible that someone puts all the content of the European Map SD to somewhere that we can download?

Or is there any DIRECT link? I’m sure many many people will be really thankful if someone can help.

    Thanks.

  68. Tim says:

    HI EVERYONE,

HAS ANYONE GOT “WARN THEN SPEEDING” TO FUNCTION AND IF SO HOW?
SUPPORT SAY IT FUNCTION IN U.S?

  69. Tony Y says:

It’s going for $199 today only on dell.ca’s Days of Deals. Good buy?

  70. bluerain says:

After reading the great review of the V7 I decided to buy one today.

Got it from Dell’s Days of Deals sale for $199.99CDN.

Sales ends tonight before midnight (not sure which timezone — either EST or PST). So hurray if you want to get in on the deal!!!!

    Click on Link:
    http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/days_of_deals?c=ca&cs=CADHS1&l=en&s=dhs

  71. Dave C. says:

$199CDN is an amazing price. This unit has a few glitches, but for that price you can’t go wrong.
For anyone who has problems with low signal, or slow aquisition, I would recommend you try an external antenna. I just bought one from http://www.gpspeople.com for CDN$19.95 with free shipping. Part number AT-555, MMCX external antenna. It works really well. It just about doubles the signal strenght, and I was getting an accuracy of 1 metre consistently. Now I have to figure out how to mount it on my car.

  72. Edward says:

I followed the steps above to modify the DATA.ZIP in the \Flash Disk\MyGuide in my PC, then copy back to the GPS, then, it can not start. (nothing displays after turn on the power). I guess the zip file is damaged. Anyone knows how to fix it? Please help!

  73. Philip Liu says:

    Dave C, I just bought this unit, but found that there’s no “data.zip” under \Flash Card\My Guide\.

    Is there a workaround?

    Thanks!

  74. Emmanuel says:

Also get this weird intermittent problem where I get the Navigation menu, power off and on again, and then it’s gone. So weird. As if the SD card is defective. Is there a work around? Thanks!

  75. Dave C. says:

Edward: Are you sure you replaced DATA.ZIP in Flash Disk\MyGuide\, as there is another DATA.ZIP in the root of the Flash Disk. Strange you get nothing displayed at all. Not much you can do if you can’t get into Windows! Maybe someone else here has suggestions ???
Philip Liu: You are probably looking on the SD card. There is no Data.zip on the SD card. It is on the internal Flash Disk. Be careful – you can wreck the unit if you change the wrong file (see previous message!)
Emmanuel: Yes, it’s the SD card that is defective. See my previous mail and call tech support. They should send you a replacement SD card.

  76. Tom says:

Not sure if I’m missing something or it’s software bug? Planing a route from Toronto to NYC gives as result a way through Montreal… None of route parameters changes it. Even if I change to shortest route it still goes via Montreal which gives 1200km distance while crossing border after Kingston it’s about 800km. Any idea why works like this? thanks in advance.

  77. shay says:

here are all the updates for Myguide 3000 V7 navigatin system http://www.myguidegps.com/en/pro.php?p=11&pv=8

  78. Timi says:

    Hi Dave C.,
I edited keybind.txt file and coppied it back to Flash Disk\MyGuide but I got error message: failed to open file: ctype.dat.
What should I do to avoid this error.
    Thanks

  79. Dave C. says:

    Hi Timi,

What did you do exactly. You should have copied flashdisk/myguide/data.zip to the SD card, made the changes to keybind.txt in the data.zip on your computer, and then copied data.zip back to flashdisk/myguide/
I’m not sure what the error message is but maybe you don’t have the correct path information for keybind.text in the data.zip. The path information should show config/

Did you keep a backup of flashdisk/myguide/data.zip ?
I could email you a copy.

Just as a check, the data.zip in the root of Flashdisk should be 457Kb, and the one in Flashdisk/myguide/ should be 1348Kb.

  80. Vic says:

Hey Guys – I just picked up the v7 1000 … I can’t seem get mp3’s to work. I created a folder called MP3 on the SD Card (as indicated in manual), but the unit doesn’t seem to recognize it….and what’s more, the “navigator” option on the menu seems to dissapear. It re-appears once I remove the MP3 folder from the SD Card. Any thoughts…Perhaps I should give it more time to recognize ???

  81. Timi says:

    Hi David,
Thanks for your quick respone. I think the problem is the Winzip file, I use difference PC and the ZIP file working correctly.

  82. Chanada says:

Any comments regarding the MP4 feature? Has anyone tried using this device to watch videos?

  83. Timi says:

    Chanada,
I can watch video in this unit very good, the movies I have is in Divx format.

  84. Edward says:

    Dave,
Thank you for the quick response. I did replace the Data.zip in the correct place. But don’t know why it returns nothing. (I did the work while the device was charging. I don’t think it will cause the problem.) Maybe the only way to fix it is to make it “USB-able”, but that is too much to me. Too bad, I have to return it.

  85. Dave C. says:

Vic – it’s probably a bad SD card. The ones supplied are of poor quality. Tech support should send you a replacement SD card.
Just for a test I took my old SD card that had trouble giving the Navigation button in the menu and put a folder on it called MP3 with a couple of tracks in it. It worked fine a couple of times, but then I could not get the Navigation option, so I deleted the MP3 folder, and it still won’t work. When I look in Windows Explorer on the V7, it does not even recognize the card anymore. (works fine in my computer card reader or my camera!). There seems to be a combination of problems with the poor quality sd card, and the card reader in the V7.
I am a little nervous now to try and put some MP3 on my new card in case that also stops working!!

  86. Pezzer44 says:

I was wondering if u can run like windows moblie 5 on this system or something like it if u can, can u plz email me the directions on how to do it thank you :) dell is selling this unit again for $199 :)

  87. Pezzer44 says:

    sry my mail is Pezzer44@hotmail.com

  88. Vic says:

Thanks Dave. I seem to have got it working – after clearing out the sd card and reloading the maps etc.

Someone mentiond that theyheard the maps are going to be updated in April Does anyone know by what method the unit would get updated…ie. automatically via gps?? Just wondering.

    Thanks.

  89. Dave C. says:

Vic – see mail above dated 14 March.

  90. Claude says:

I just created myself a spare SD with a 256 Mb SD from SANDISK.
I only loaded world and Canada maps.

So far, unit seems to boot every time with the navigation option (which was not the case with the V7 original SD)

For the update maps, I believed that you need to download and replaced them on the SD card. But for sure it won’t be via the GPS signals…

Great unit for 200 Cdn (yes I got it last Monday from Dell)

    Claude

Any one having problems with the POI? I can’t see any of the services around me or even in Canada. Gas stations and other services shown are only in the USA. Let me know if you can help. Thx

  92. bam says:

    hi all,
Thanx for the great tips and suggestions. I have recently bought a v7 1400 sat nav with uk+irland maps. How can I upgrade for Europe and usa?
    ANY SUGGESTIONS?

  93. Dave C. says:

    bam,

I could trade you a copy of the DVD with Canada/USA maps for a copy of your UK/Ireland. You just have to copy the DVD that came with the unit. Email me at deforestradio@hotmail.com if you are interested.

  94. bam says:

How can we save favourites on this sat nav?

  95. Claude says:

    >Any one having problems with the POI? I can’t see any of the services around me or even in Canada. Gas stations and other services shown are only in the USA. Let me know if you can help. Thx

They work for me in Montreal, I used the french menu but basicly from maps, select the menu, then Express, then POI (not directly POI)
For each type of POI (and inside each type) make sure they are set to be display.

From the main GPS menu (cockpit, maps, option…) select the options, maps
make sure you level of display is set to the max.

From the cockpit or maps, make sure you zoom enough to display the POI.

Once you find them, you can tune these setting to display them as you want (or try to)

Remember that for POI that points to a commercial place )(such as a gaz station) they need to purchase the POI. I beleived that it is the same for the AAA/CAA booklet, Michelin Guide, etc.

Good luck, hope this answer your question,
    \Claude

I like to know if there is any Chinese voice file can be use with the unit (V7-1000)

    Thanks

  99. Karoly says:

Claude, it is 299 cdn on dell site not 199 cdn as you wrote. Was it on special last week ? Thanks,

  100. Pierre4 says:

As Shay was writing march 28th, there are updates for Myguide 3000 and V7 navigation at http://www.myguidegps.com/.

However I wouldn’t touch the Hotfix in there. It looks like something for German version only.

On the other side, I’m going in Europe at the end of May with my V7… I’ll be looking for Europe maps to feed it!

    Enjoy your GPS.

  101. li says:

First I have to thank Dave C. to send data.zip file to me.

I have a problem with moive player. I made a folder named moive, and the I put a AVI movie. When I play the avi movie, it pops up a bar with :divx0200 and divx0202. I tried another AVI movie, it pops up play009. Something like that. And it asks me to click OK. After I click OK, it quit back to Movie. Can anyone help to fix this problem. What is the correct way to put moive on SD card. Email: panlimm@yahoo.com

    Thank you.

  102. Dave C. says:

Li – it worked OK for me. I just put the AVI file on the SD card (Not in a folder).

  103. Bryan says:

    Dave,

I did exactly what I was supposed to with the Data.zip file and made sure I copied the new file into the flashdisk/myguide folder and I get the same ctype error message when trying to load navigation. Could you send me the original DATA file please, somewhere I must have accidentally erased it too. thanks.

    flyerboyz@rogers.com

  104. li says:

I check the google. It says that the Divx0200 means the Quarter Pixel feature is not supported. And Divx0202 means GMC feature is not supported.
But I don’t know how to fix it. Is there any diferent AVI file? Who can send me a short sample AVI miove? Or tell me where I can download a AVI moive.
    Thank you.

    Li

  105. li says:

Can this gps play MPEG4 moive? I put MP4 moive on it. It doesn’t work. It should play MP4 moive. But I don’t know why it doesn’t work .

  106. Dave C. says:

Li – I just tried some AVI clip and got error PLAY0109. I think the AVI file has to have Divx compression. Right click the avi file and select Properties, then Summary. I used some software called WinAVI Video Converter to convert DVD to AVI and it worked OK on the V7. Unfortunately I think there are many different AVI formats.

  107. Bryan says:

    >>>>>Thanks for the original and mod files Dave, she works perfectly now. There must be issue I can’t quite figure out with winzip 11. Thanks to you too Li.

    regards
    Bryan

  108. red says:

ok, so lets try to get this project going…..
in order to run european maps on this thing we will ned two things, a cracked myguide.exe file and a “one-for-all” license.db file. anybody have any luck with that?

also, I have mio 310 and i like it however i love the menu shell interface that starts up with this device. anybody can please copy off the right files off the flashdisk on the unit and put it on some place like rapidshare etc?

  109. Dave C. says:

Red – you say we need a cracked myguide.exe file – is this file country specific ? How about if we replace the Flash Disk contents with the one from a European unit. Do you think it will then read the European maps?
I think the UK unit actually has a copy of the Flash Disk on the SD card.

  110. Tom says:

Get the world maps, all license.db and myguide.exe crack from this forum

    http://forum.pdalink.org/

  111. Dave C. says:

Tom – do you know exactly what the crack for myguide.exe is doing ?

  112. Raymond says:

Hi Dave, the http://www.gpspeople.com URL is not valid.

  113. Dave C. says:

Raymond – sorry about that – it should be http://www.gpspeople.ca
(I’m suprised that nobody else noticed !!)

  114. Leo says:

Hi Dave, just to make sure that the lower right ‘MMCX Active Antenna $19.99′ in http://www.gpspeople.ca is what you mentioned? cuz i cant find anyone with part number AT-555. I’m gonna take one.
    Thanx

    Leo

  115. Raymond says:

Thanks Dave. I have an issue here. I’ve followed the procedures on MyGuide 3000 site to download the latest maps. I plug in the SD card into the card reader and copied all the folders from the SD card to my hard drive for backup purpose. What happened was the backup copies are all corrupted and when I tried to browse into the SD card Myguide folder there is nothing in the folder (no sub-folders at all). I then put back the SD card into the GPS and power it on. Result is that the Nagivation option is disppeared, only the Multimedia and Settings are still there. I tried to pump it for a few times, not progress at all.

Did anyone tried to update the maps and having the same problems?

  116. Leo says:

I guess it is the problem with the SD card. i ever encounted serveral times which i can’t read and format it( a 2G card, not with V7)properly after i did some copy and paste. I used my friend’s sd card reader to reformat it and copy everything in then it came to work , not sure if it works in your case.

  117. Raymond says:

    Leo,

I even got my PC system hang when accessing the SD card. I have the GPS working for a week but everything seems not working after I pull out the SD card for backup and map update purpose.

If I want to replace the original V7 SD card with a new card I still have to reload all the files to the new card, can you forward me all the files?

  118. Raymond says:

Hi, I am not able to restore the folders and files from the DVD back to the SD card. But after I put it back in the GPS the Navigation button and the Games button are still disappear. I will try to get a new SD card tomorrow ;o(

  119. Dave C. says:

Hi Leo – yes, if it says MMCX then that’s the right one.
(MMCX is the size of the connector)

  120. Raymond says:

If I have to replace the original SD card do I just use the GPS DVD to restore all the files? Also, did anyone having the same SD card issue and have requested a replacement from the supplier?

    tks

  121. Leo says:

    Raymond,
    yes,
not sure, but here in Futureshop canada, we were suggested to replace a whole new one(everything) if you want. of course in 1 month.

  122. Dave C. says:

Raymond – I called V7 tech support and they sent me a new SD card (with all the files on it). I have not tried it, but it looks like the DVD will recreate all the files on a SD card.

  123. Raymond says:

thanks guys. Dave do you have the V7 Tech support number and do you need to sent them back the faulty one?

  124. Marcel says:

On the January 3rd, 2007 at 5:41 pm post, Jim Wy sid to “Put the PDA -500 for EST”. Isn’t it gona go back to 12:00 when I close and reopen the unit again?

BTW, you don’t know how happy I am to have found this chat group. It doesn’t solve all my GPS issues but at least it tell’s me I’m not the only one with them.

  125. Marcel says:

On January 6th, 2007 at 12:24 am, David Says:

“4. Why isn’t the time saved after I power the unit off and back on again? I thought the time/date would retain in memory.
Response: the date and time is adjusted when you receive a gps signal you only need to change the time zone once and ignore the time and don’t change the time that appears above the time zone screens.”

I’m sorry but I don’t get what they mean. What time zone screen?

  126. Dave C. says:

Raymond – the number I have for tech support for North America is 866-217-9887. (You might have trouble getting to talk to someone as I think it’s a one man office! – just keep calling).
I did not have to return the old SD card.

Marcel – Just go to the GPS data screen (touch the little satelite dish), and then select ‘Time Sync’ in the top right corner. Then make sure ‘Auto Correction’ is on, and then set your local time in the PDA field. The unit will then remember your local time correction. (Make sure you have a satelite time signal first).

  127. Raymond says:

    Marcel,

under the setting option you select (Time) and on the bottom of the screen you will see two arrows where you can select your time zone. For Canada I selected Atlantic Time (Canada) then press (OK) on the right hand corner, then you are set. When you go outdoor and lock onto the satellite signal it will follow the selling and display the correct time according to this Time Zone you have set. ;o)

  128. Leo says:

Just asked the support, they asked me to send back the old one after receiving the new one.

  129. sahar says:

  130. Marcus says:

i got a HUGE problem i tryed to get it so that when i start it up it goes to windows and i noticed while doing so it wiped the flash disk folder n it restarted and now i just get the myguide background and it won’t load anything. if someone knows how to reset it back to factory defalut can u let me know thanx. Pezzer44@hotmail.com

  131. Leo says:

How you know the flash disk folder(not storage disk folder) was removed? if it is ,It could be serious, and in this case i guess the warrent won’t cover it. the folder flash disk should be handled very carefully, cuz they supposed you would not use windows CE explorer. V7 does not come with a reset function, and you need a specific device to write things back, which means only professionals have the devices to restore it.
Make sure everything is clear b4 contact support
    take care

  132. Dave C. says:

Marcus – if you take out the SD card and turn on the unit, do you get the start screen with ‘Multimedia’ and ‘Settings’ buttons ?? If so, you should be able to get to Windows with the SD card in, and the modified addons.txt file on the card.
If you can get to Windows you can reload the flash disk if the contents have been erased.
Let me know if you need the files.

  133. Marcus says:

hey i have a buddy that is gonna put a USB cable in for me and i’m hoping i can get to the windows files from there, and no it just shows the MYGuide screen like when u first start it up but i think that when i get it back with the USB cable i might be able to fix it thanx for your help :)

  134. Marcus says:

i got my unit back with the USB cord in it and i found out that somehow i changed the background so that the myguide.bmp comes up infront of it so i was wondering how would u change the background image

  135. Doogie says:

I need the new Canada map. Where can I get it? I hear there is a 90MB version out but I do not see it anywhere.

Can you use a MIO map on the V7?

    THx

  136. Dave C. says:

Marcus -just a guess, but does IGOPATH.TXT on FlashDisk look like this:
    [pre_init]
    LangSyncOn = “\\flash disk\\langsync.exe”

    [pre_quit]
    LangSyncOff = “\\flash disk\\langsync.exe”

    [modules]
    Settings = “icons/settings.bmp”, “settings”, 1
    Multimedia = “icons/media.bmp”, “Multimedia”, 0

    [Multimedia]
    Picture= “”, “\\Flash DIsk\\XImage\\XImage.exe”
    Movie= “”, “\\Flash DIsk\\XMovie\\XMovie.exe”
    Music= “”, “\\Flash DIsk\\XMp3\\XMp3.exe”

    Which games will work?

    Thanks

  138. digitalfreeze says:

You should be able to hack this unit and install any navigation software of your choice. Check out mionav.com and try the unlocking methods to open up this device to much possibilities. iGo is very good software, although it is not very user friendly.

  139. Marcus says:

I got it to work:) thanx all i had to do was wait for my buddy to put the USB cable in n then i just addedthe flash disk folder back :) i was wondering if anyone new of a good site to get some games :)

  141. Doogie says:

Can somebody please tell me if the Updated Canada maps are avail. I have tried looking everywhere. I hear of a 90mb version but this also isnt found.

All I find is outdated 50MB canada.fbl with all US POI that come up , this is insane. Please can somebody help me with just telling me whether updated canada maps are out???????

    Thanks

  142. Al says:

Im waiting for the canada maps to be updated as well … please let me know if an updated version is available..

  143. Vic says:

There’s been talk about the canada map being updated in April…I haven’t been able to locate as of yet. Hopefully the update occurs soon…

  144. Buntz says:

There is no update. I think we’ve been lied to and I should hold dell responsible to tell me when the update is out rather than have me check daily for updates.

  145. Jean-Francois says:

    Hi
I talked with a V7 sales rep and he told me “We do not have a fixed date for the availability of map updates currently; we are actively working to get these ready for the market by the end of April We will publish our next available map update timeline on the website at http://www.v7-world.com.The maps have a date listed so you can verify they are the latest versions, Updated maps for Europe should be available in May…They have yet to determine the cost of the update.”

  146. Buntz says:

WHat COST????? There should be no cost for somebody who bought a device with outdated maps. THIS is pure bullshit. Can you tell me who your contact person is so I can take it out on him fully. This is pure bullshit.

  147. Dave C. says:

There is an upgrade for the Myguide 3000 (which I think is the same unit as the V7 1000) on http://www.myguidegps.com/
It upgrades Myguide software 6.0 to 6.1, plus some other small fixes.
Has anyone out there tried it ?? I am a little nervous to try it, but V7 did tell me at one point that they do use the same software.
On this same site there is a ‘new’ map for Canada. What I don’t understand is that it shows the size as 53mB, whereas the on on my SD card is 63mB ????

  148. Leo says:

I have tried the 90M canada map, i guess it is just a POIs modified version. I can really find much more POIs than the original version. The wrong High way exit near my home is still the same. and i was told this one might be the mio310’s original version.
Dave, it’s strange mine is also around 63M(63,289kb) on SD card.

  149. Dave C. says:

Hi Leo – where did you find the ‘90M Canada map’ ? If the new Canada.fbl file that you found is 90mB, how come it only shows a size if 63mB on the SD card ?

  150. Timmer G says:

Yes the update for the MyGuide 3000 does work on the V7. Basically, what it does is remove the date and time stamp that is on the main start screen. I imagine that they did this since the time was so messed up anyway, why bother showing it at all.

It appears that after you start the navigation, the time will eventually get updated to the correct time zone as long as you have provided the correct time zone in your settings screen. It switched a couple of times for me +- an hour but after a few minutes, it finally got it right.

The one thing to know is that after you install the upgrade, you will have to re-patch your V7 if you want the M button to go back to the main menu again.

At least this helps a little.

Now, where are those new maps and POI’s?

  151. Buntz says:

Can anybody be kind enough to let me have the 90MB version of the CANADA map. At least I can have some POI’s. Here I have no POI’s. I’m totally screwed over and I went from a 60MB file to 51MB and now I have virtually no POI’s, and the same crud for maps. The place I needed to go couldn’t be located. AMAZING.

Can anybody put their 90mb file onto some server or tell me where to get it from. I’m really at my wits end with this problem.

There is no update and I’m doubting any update any time soon which will be meaningful. I bought this last month and my map is 2005 based!!!!!!

  152. Gille says:

If a few of us called they will get the idea that we are pissed off and need an updated map of Canada.

Please provide me a copy to replace the damaged one. Beware of trying to update to 6.1….

    Hi,
I lost my flash disk for my v7 uk edition trying to install updates. Is there anybody who can provide me with a copy? your concern is already appreciated.
    my email is bamdad0007@yahoo.com

  160. bam says:

I have installed an american flash disk and everything works except the navigate button with displaying this message: HardwareIDchanged? Does anybody know how to solve this problem?
    Thanks

  161. Rob says:

    I also tried the update to myguide 6.1 with “MyGuide3000 Upgrade (MyGuide3000 200704 Upgrade.zip 28195kb”.

Like the others my unit (v7 pmd 1400 with maps of western Europe) now locks at the initial myguide screen and I can’t do anything. If I press the screen with thw stylus I get the display properties from ce.net so I guess at least some part of os remains.
I’ve emailed myguide to ask what to do and I just noticed that the upgrade file has been removed from their website (for myguide 3000).
So it looks like those of us who tried this upgrade are stuck at the moment.
The upgrade on my unit began ok but then seemed to fail at something to do with the zip file.
Let’s hope myguide get their fingers out and help us with this.

  162. bam says:

    Hi Rob,
The same happened to mine. You can do sth about it to restore all the functions except navigate: tap the screen; click new folder; when it is made go to the top of the page and click go; then click the rectangular button with the broken arrow. You haveto be in the windows set up now. If you have already saved a copy of your flash disk, you can now delete the modified files and folders and reinstal the original copy through your sd card. Then your system will be restored to the original condition. I didnt have a copy of the flash disk, and just installed an american version flash disk but my navigate button does not work. Hope this will help. Can you send me a copy of your dvd and the flash disk if you happen to have the latter.

Sorry-too many 0’s V7-1000.I’m still getting used to it!

  165. Timmer G says:

I guess that I didn’t realize that there was both a hotfix and an upgrade/update file for the myguide 3000. I used the HOTFIX ONLY on my V7 and now my V7 updates the date and time correctly. I DID NOT install the upgrade to version 6.1. I noticed that the upgrade was not an english version so I don’t know why some of you living in America would even try to install that version anyway?

You should be able to send a copy of the flashdisk back to the V7 and over write the files that the upgrade did. If not, you may be out of luck for the moment.

  166. Dave C. says:

Timmer G – the Hotfix also has a German title “Hotfix für den MyGuide 3000″.
I think the Upgrade will work when they get the software corrected. (As someone already mentioned, MyGuide have taken the software off their site. Lets hope it doesn’t take too long for them to fix it!)

  167. Timmer G says:

    Dave,

Good observation as to the Hotfix title being in German as well. I guess that I wasn’t paying attention to that one. :-)

Hotfix – works with the V7
Upgrade to 6.1 – does NOT work with the V7

I apologize if my posts prompted anyone to run the upgrade instead of the hotfix. It certainly was not my intention to confuse the two files that were available for download. From what I have been reading, even if someone did install the upgrade, there is still a way to restore your old flashdisk files to the V7 (providing you made a backup).

There are so many devices on the market that utilize the same map files that I’m sure they are being thoroughly tested to make sure they are compatable with every one. It will be nice to finally see my house next to a road instead of in the middle of a field!

  170. Eric Williams says:

    Hi,

I bought the Europe version of the V7 1000 through a friend of mine.
I was under the impression at the time that the device can use US maps just by copying those maps on the SD.

Now I know that I should have a license file for that.
I can’t use the GPS now in my own neighborhood when I got no maps…
I’ve tried three files I found from different sites, but they don’t work.
The maps I have already, I’m just missing the correct “license.DB” file.

Would anyone be kind enough to email me the license file from a USA version of the V7?
I would gladly offer the license file from my device for the european maps in return.

    Thanks!

  172. Eric Williams says:

The 90Mb map for Canada might be having some updates (because it’s not bigger for nothing) but certainly not for the city I live in.(Kingston,ON)
There is a new road (built for at least 1,5 years) and a major road name change and none shows up in either of the maps(63Mb or 90Mb).
As far as the announced “official” update I don’t know if you noticed a pattern in the forum up above :-))
… January posting, response from tech “updates available in March”
… March posting “updates available in April”
April is almost gone and nothing yet.

  179. Leo says:

HA, in the website i provided you need to choose the way you download, choose free button, then you will be asked to enter 4 alphabets or digits, and you can download

  180. HA says:

Leo, thanks a lot, found it. It worked so much better with the POIs, i now can find services in my area. I’ll try the addresses when i am on the road, I couldn’t find my work address before the update (the place has been there only since the 1960s), I’ll see how it is now. Thanks again.

Hi, When I tried the new map 93mb on my V7, it gives me an error. Can any one tell me please what I’m missing. It works fine with the original one. What do I have to do to have it working.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks,

  182. Leo says:

    Wagman,
How you tried the map? i just copied it directly to the SD card, replace, rename or delete the old one, which works fine. BTW what the error saids?

Just a quick update….I contacted Customer Service to request a new SD card, as the unit won’t give me the navigation button. I asked when the Canada map would be updated and he said that they’re working on it still, but wouldn’t provide a date, nor cost that will be associated. This company seems like it’s a 2 man operation….one dude answering the phone and the other putting the units together in his parent’s basement…service wasn’t too bad I guess, I’m just venting becasue the map doesn’t acknowledge roads that have in some cases been around for 5 years…

  186. Claude says:

    ok, I need more coffee… >

FYI, all the one I try are 2005.2

    I contacted V7 support,

the new map for Canada is still not available.

    ============================
this is the answer I received:

Thank you for contacting V7 Customer Support.

Our map data is supplied by Tele Atlas, the worldwide leader in high quality digital maps. Our database leverages over 50,000 resources, 60+ field survey vehicles and 200 digital map technicians to provide us with the freshest possible map content.

Should you find areas that need updating, we encourage you to report these to Tele Atlas through the “Map Insight” reporting tool at http://www.teleatlas.com/MapInsight/index.htm. Your direct feedback will be used to help guide future data improvement projects. You may find areas being updated in the above tool, but not in your device. This means that the next revision of map data would have your areas updated.

Although we do not have a fixed date for the availability of map updates currently, we are actively working to get these ready for the market. We understand how important it is to have the needed areas available in the device, and we will publish our next available map update timeline on the website at http://www.v7-world.com.

Again, I thank you in advance for your anticipated feedback and thank you for choosing V7!

  203. Dimitris says:

    Hi,

I bought the V7 (US version) because the website suggested that EU maps are also included! When I realized that this is not accurate I contacted V7 rep and he said – sorry, it looks confusing on the website but we do not provide EU maps (or sth similar) –
then following the “hacking” ideas from this website I managed to make my V7 work in EU too (not perfectly)
basically, if you find a modified myguide exe that can initiate with any license db then you can create a myguide folder (the one in the flasdisk) in a new folder in the storage card – if you start then the myguide.exe from there you can actually use it in Europe – only drawback: can cannot type in addresses (you have to find it in the map and select route to) – it is kind of inconvenient but works perfect in any other way!

    cheers,

Help! I just bought a navigation1000 V7 from overstock.com. I turned on power and insert SD, the screen showed up, but there were no Navigate or Games. Only Multimedia and settings are there. What is going on? what can i do? I reinserted the SD, but it did not solve the problem.
    Really disappointing..
    Thanks in advance.

  209. Kely says:

Harvey: I’ve looked everywhere and do not see any updated maps available. My units maps are circa 2006 so I’d like an update too.

John: Use the disc that came with the unit and a different SD card than what came with the unit. When you insert the disc into your computer the autolaunch will start the program/map installation process. It automatically detected the blank 256MB SD card I had in my card reader. I copied over about 6 states and I checked the box at the bottom of the program window to install the non-map files. The copy process only took a couple of minutes. My V7 works flawlessly now. I’ll be sending out RMA’d SD card today. I’ll report back to the forum when the new one arrives.

  210. Kely says:

John: BTW, what you’re describing sounds like the SD card is empty. All the games, maps and languages reside on the SD card.

I hate not having a modify button on these forums! I can’t even correct a simple speling error. ;)

  215. Wagman says:

The unit doesn’t have any European maps. V7 is saying It was a mistake and they corrected their website. As for Dell they weren’t sure and they came back and said, it only has NA maps.
The navigation is not the greatest. On hwy 401 while driving it takes you from express to collector lanes and vis versa all the time, also it is missing a lot of streets. V7 support seems weak, no idea on updates or fixes.

  216. Wagman says:

According to the manual, you can’t have the navigation and music/movie playing at the same time.

  219. Ron Jace says:

    Hello
I need the maps (Europe) for the V7 1000 by June 14. Even older version is ok. Does anyone know a website or when their going to be released.

  220. Dave C. says:

Gator 99 – I’m sure the NA maps do not cover the Bahamas.

Ron Jace – the Europe maps will not work on a North American version of the V7 1000, without some hacking of the program and license files. I have not found any way to do that yet.
Anyone know how to do that ?????

Sharath (from 29 may) – why don’t you call V7 and say that you have the SD card problem, and they will send you a new card, presumably with the latest 2006 maps on it.

  221. Sean says:

My unit will no longer start — the bootup stops with the following message: Failed to open file ctype.dat exiting application!
I cannot enter Explorer once this message is dismissed — I only get the MyGuide logo showing. I suspect that there is a problem with some missing files on the flash card which I could fix, but I’m unable to access the card without Explorer. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

  222. Dave C. says:

Sean – try following the mail above from Bam, 21 April.

  223. Sean says:

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for the response. I don’t think that I have an intact Flash disk — I did download it and save to my PC, but I think some files are either zeroed out or missing. My problem unlike Bam’s is that I cannot gain access to the OS period — my screen just has the black and white MyGuide logo — the device fails on trying to start the MyGuide launcher. Any ideas aside from installing the USB solution that you can think of?

  224. Sean says:

    Dave,

Thanks for the help. I managed to get Explorer up — had to press hard on the screen for whatever reason. Once in Explorer it was a matter of replacing some missing files under the Flash Disk\MyGuide folder.

I think there are a few people above who had the error “failed to open file: ctype.dat. Exiting application”, but their problem was mostly to get back into the operating system again to restore the Flash Disk contents.

  231. HM says:

    Thank you Dave C.

  232. Kely says:

Kely, would you confirm if the V7 you bought from Newegg does or does not contain european map as it is stated in Newegg product description?

My V7 does not have European maps. And for those of you keeping track of my RMA on the SD card, it’s still not in. :(

  233. Steven says:

Thanks for the quick relpy Dave C, I appreciate it.

I just exchanged the MyGuide 3000. I backed up the new MyGuide SD card and noticed there was an increased size difference by 1 megabyte compared to the old SD card.

I think my old MYGUIDE 3000 was returned and used and they just resold it. Because when I rebooted the new gps yesterday I had a different boot up. I had to select language and agree to some contract on the MyGuide.

I am tempted to do the M Button Hack to Access main menu feature with the M Button.

Has anyone also added the HotFix to their MYguide 3000/3050 to correct the time and also added the CANADA maps to the unit aswell. does it have updated POI’s on the file? Because there is no real poi;s for a big city like Toronto?

AGAIN THANKS for any reply back,

    Steven

  234. Kely says:

Has anyone also added the HotFix to their MYguide 3000/3050 to correct the time

Which hotfix is this and does it work with the V7?

Mine will update the date and time (is an hour off so I’m guessing it’s a DST issue) from the GPS sats as it should but that data doesn’t seem to transfer into the navigation applet.

  235. Rob says:

The myguide website now has a new update with new features

“Smart Keyboard for easy and more failsafe entry of road- and city names

Tunnel Mode, for showing the next manoeuvre in a tunnel by using your calculated average speed.

You can download information about Road Safety Cameras from the Internet”

It installs ok but I have yet to test it.
The upgrade makes no mention of what format speed cameras have to be in or where to store them on the device or sd card.

  236. David says:

Can anyone tell me what the thread size is for the mounting hole?

    Thanks

  237. scoolro says:

    Hey Rob,

I tried to update my GPS MYGUIDE 3000 but i didn’t have enough room in my SD card. Thank god I backed up my files on card or else I would have been screwed.

HAs anyone had luck installing the UPDate on the 3000/3050? I don’t understand why MYGUIDE would only use a 1gig card for the gps.

    Steven

  238. Fran says:

I think I know how to make it so you don’t have to double pump the sim card to get it to see the Nav. software. when you shut off the unit make sure you exit the Nav. software first I just got this unit Nav 1000 yesterday and had the same problem as everyone else. but in using it today i keeped exiting the Nav. software first and then later turning it on and everytime I didn’t have to do the double pump. Just for the recored, I did install the patch that is on the V7 web site it also solved the time problem now on to updated maps! if I find any I will let you know hope this helps.

    Fran

  239. Dave C. says:

Rob – you say you did the update to software 6.1.
Do you have the North American V7 1000

“scoolro” says he didn’t have enough room on his SD card, and also mentions that he has Myguide 3000, which I thought was the European version ?? Maybe scoolro could clarify that ?

  240. Abi says:

hi, can anyone pls tell me where I could find the UPDATE for V7 1000.

  241. EF says:

I did the 6.1 update to my Myguide 3050. I also got the warning about not enough room on my SD card. I deleted all of the non-english voice profiles and then it installed without difficulty. FYI, I have the 90k Canada map installed as well.

  242. Rich says:

Does anyone have the update for the V7 1000?

  243. Fran says:

did it up date the Maps? I know there is 2007 Maps out but where are they for the Nav 1000

  244. Rob says:

Hi all. When I first tried to update my v7 (1400 European version) I also got the warning about not enough room on the sd card. What worked for me was to copy all the individual files and not the folder that contains them to your sd card, this will overwrite the “myguide” folder on the sd card and then I had enough space.
Hope this works for you lads over the pond.

Has anyone worked out how and where to add speed camera locations?

    Rob

  245. Rob says:

By the way Fran, the update didn’t seem to change any of my (Western Europe) maps, but they’re pretty up-to-date anyway.

  246. Hp says:

  247. scoolro says:

    Hey Dave,
Sorry for the delay in reply. I have the MYGUIDE 3050. It’s the American/Canadian model. I found a 110MB Canada.fbl has anyone tried to upload this file to their SD Card with success.

The 90MB canada.fbl does it have an update of POI?

Also any success wth copying the MYGUIDE SD CARD to a bigger sd card to work on the MYGUIDE?

    Thanks Again everyone.

  248. boss_bijou says:

    Hi Scoolro,

Where did you find the 110mb file? I have the same unit as yours and I was able to copy the data from the orig. 1gb SD to a 2 gb card and it works fine. Also, the 90mb file seems to have more POIs than the original file.

    Thanks!

    Hey Boss Bijou,

Thanks for the quick reply back. How did you copy the original data from the MYGUIDE card to a 2gb card. I formated my 2gb card and pasted all the myguide files into the 2gb card. When i inserted into MYGUIDE 3050 it would npt accept the card because of different seriel number or licence.

Please tell us I am sure we would all like to know. What sd card you using make and model of card. Also the steps and program you used. I am sure we all would appreciate the information. The 110mb CANADA.fbl file I got from a torrent site. I was looking for IGO files and it gave me the update canada file. I cannot store in my card because i HAVE NO SPACE.

    Hi Steven,

Just use the program (on the CD that comes with the unit) to format and install the proper sw on a new SD card. It take less than one minute.

I try 2 differents card with success, the unit work even better than using the original SD card (I never got the navigate not available issue ever since I switch SD card). And yes one of those was a 2Gb card.

    Hey Claude,

The only files that come with the MYGUIDE 3050 gps is two pdf documentation. MyGuide_ 3000_HW_Manual_UK_final.pdf (2077mb) and Pocketstar_MyGuide6[1].0_Software_User_Manual_UK_v1_09.pdf (5549mb) No other files.

I would love to save my original files to a bigger SD card so I may add media to it and update my gps with lots of room on card.

Is there some hidden file on the cd that comes with the gps?

Are you sure that you can save the orinal files to a bigger card and it work properly on the MYGUIDE 3050 with working navigation?? Please again how what sd card?

    Steven

    Again many thanks

  256. PD says:

Has anyone taken a look at the NAV700 or NAV720 products from V7?

  257. Kely says:

For those of you keeping track, I received my new 1GB SD card from V7 tech support this eveneing. The card looks to be a generic 1GB SD card, and the label looks like a sticker printed off an ink jet or laser printer. In any case it does appear to resolve the double pump SD card action previously needed to get into the Navigation program. BTW, the maps on the new SD card are dated Oct 2006.

Also, was rooting around in the \MyGuide\voice folder of the SD card. They are all .ogg files. If you don’t care for the voices that come with the device, I think it would be a simple matter to record a voice of your choosing for each one of the files. Simple but time consuming!

For example in the v_eng_us_m1.zip\audio file there are 120 audio files. I think if these files were remastered with a new voice, and the .zip file renamed to v_eng_us_m2.zip or something similar you could create your own audio files. My voice certainly isn’t worthy of such work. Now if I could only do a solid Apu from the Simpsons impression…

  258. scoolro says:

  259. boss_bijou says:

    Hi Scoolro,

I didn’t do anything special to copy the files from old to new SD card, in fact I’ve tried 2 different cards already. One of them is a 1GB A-Data Speedy SD from TigerDirect and the other one is a no name brand (2GB) and they both work fine.

  260. scoolro says:

Really I have a 2gb A-Data card I copied all files from the original MyGuide card to my A-Data card but it won’t access the navigation feature on my 3050 gps. It mentions something about license or serial.

Did you do a card to card copy? what program did you use to copy? was it just copy and paste onto your new card?

Can you access the navigation feature? It shows on my GPS but just not allowed/ can’t access the naigation feature.

Has anyone else had the same luck as boss_bijou to copy contents of odiginal MYguide SD card to another SD card and have access to the Navigation feature?

I would love to have the Navigation file to work on a 2gb card so i can update gps and add media contents.

    Steven

  261. boss_bijou says:

I don’t have an SD reader/writer, so I used my daughter’s digital camera as my reader/writer. I just copy all the files from old SD to my PC and then inserted the new SD in the camera and copy everything back to the new card. BTW, I didn’t do any reformatting of the new SD card.

  262. scoolro says:

The navigation feature works okay on the gps? you do have the MYGUIDE 3050?

I have access to navigation but it won’t operate do to licencing or serial from other sd card.

    I’ll try again.

anyone else have luck like bijou??

I must have got a different CD. Mine just has the two files pdf documentation. On the CD it says “NAVIGATION MYGUIDE 3000 DOCUMENTATION”

  268. Khayman says:

    Hi guys,

    First of all,
@scoolro: I’ve installed the new update, the “MyGuide3000_070607_R3_FullUpgrade”, had no issues whatsoever with it. Perhaps a minor bug is that the menu button fix has to be reapplied, since the default action of the button seems to be set to “Route info”. Really a handy shortcut, but if you’re used to the Menu button taking you to the menu…
    Second,
@scoolro again: there are supposed to be 2 CDs, one of them has the documentation, and the other one the maps. Guess you’re missing one, but then again, I bought mine in Romania, so it’s definitely the European version. I currently use a 4GB card, had no problems with it, and I just copied the files over, not with the CD that comes with the device, just copy-pasted from the old card.
    Third,
does anyone have any idea where the speedcams settings are? I mean, how they can be activated, updated, and so on? I’m referring to Rob’s quote of “You can download information about Road Safety Cameras from the Internet”, but I can’t figure out how for the life of me.

    Regards,
    Khayman

  269. Scoolro says:

Hey Khayman thanks for the reply.

The North AMerican MYGUIDE 3050/3000 only comes with one cd which is only documents for the gps.

I hope someone knows how to succesfully copy and original North American SD card to a 2gb card and have it work properly.

If anyone knows please let us know. My 1GB card cannot accept update because card is full. Is there anyway to Copy original Files to a 2 GB card.

    Steven

  270. Khayman says:

    Hey guys,

just got off the phone with the European MyGuide support desk, they said that the line about the road safety cameras is (as I understood it) more or less of no or little use, as you cannot add the cameras to your device…

Read smth on a German forum, though, going to try it later on today and give you a heads-up.

PS: @scoolro: Steve, I’m not really sure whether something’s wrong with your card, as I’ve had no trouble simply copying it. Then again, I’m not really sure whether my copy of the software is cracked, which would make it explainable, to some extent, that I managed to do it.

    Regards,
    Khayman

  271. Scoolro says:

I think it is because you have a 3000 Myguide which is European And I have the 3050 edition myguide and it is north american.

I wish I new how to crack the software to put in a bigger card to add more data and MP3 and Videos.

Also has anyone added a european map to the 3050 MyGuide.

Like always Many thanks for any info,
    Steven

  272. Khayman says:

    OK, I’m back.

The thing about the speed cams seems not to have worked, but I’ll work on it a bit longer before giving up hope.

@scoolro: Steven, as far as I’m aware, there is no hardware difference between the 3000, 3050, and/or 3060. MyGuide produced the 3000 series, which is the actual device. The last two digits, again, as far as I know, simply denote the map pack they come with (i.e., the 3060, which I have, is identical with the 3000. It’s just that the 3000 came with no maps, and the 3060 came with the Europe maps. The 3050 only comes with Romania maps.)

Back to the speedcams issue: as I stated earlier, I found a German forum in which a method is described in order to get them on your device: apparently you’re supposed to go on a certain POI site, download a file, then open that file with Google Earth and save it in a different format. Once you’ve done that, you have to move the files to the flash memory of your device, and the moment MyGuide has satellite signal, you’re supposed to be all set. Again, it didn’t seem to work for me, but I’m in Romania, and apparently there’s no speedcam database for Romania yet. The one I downloaded was for Germany, France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and so on. I could just browse the map, but I could see all POIs on it, and there aren’t any speedcams that I could notice. Will work on it, see if it brings anything.

    Regards,
    Khayman

  273. Rob says:

Hi, my quote about speedcams is copied directly from the myguide Europe website. I’ve tried putting speedcams in all sorts of places, both on the sd card and on the flash disk but nothing seems to work.
You can add speed cameras, but only manually, one-by-one by by holding the stylus on the map! This also seems to create a speedcam folder. I also saw the German forum entry but my very rusty O level German from 20 odd years ago isn’t up to translating it!
If anyone works it out let us know as it would complete an already very good satnav system.
    Cheers,

    Rob

  274. scoolro says:

I would like to save the Portugal Map with my American/canadian Maps on the MyGuide 3050. Has anyone tried to save a some eurupoean maps with north American Mapping system.

Again Many thanks to this forum,

    Steven

  275. Khayman says:

@Rob: hi Rob, yes, I saw it on their site, but I quoted from you because you were the only one on the forum who’d posted it. I know you can add them manually, I saw that, and that’s a nifty trick, but in some maps’ cases, you cannot possibly add about 1000 cameras by hand. I mean, you can, but who would?!

I’ll keep working on it, see what happens.

By the way, on the flash disk there was only a file called “speedcamupdates.spud”. After I put the *.kmz file on it, it seems to have created a new file altogether, so apparently there is SOME effect.

    Regards,
    Khayman

Scoolro, I have the same problem with loading the 1gb to a 2 gb. I get a hardwareIDerror. Been looking at many, many, many (well you get the point) forums for three days now and cannot find anyone the has the US Maps version that has sucessfully used a larger card. I have the 1gb on two different MyGuide 3000Gl/3050 units. They CANNOT BE Transferred and its driving me nuts. tried several cracked maps and updates from PPC Warz forum. Hours of moving files around the two cards to not avail.

I can say that it is not a simple as copying the card from one card to the pc and then to the other larger card.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A CRACK FROM SOMEONE. PLEASE HELP!!!!

  277. Salesslt says:

Looks like this is a OCN6 TeleAtlas Device.nng fix. This stops Pirates from
copying the cards. but for people like us it screws us over. I cannot add POIs
because my card is full and MyGuide/AresDigtial.com is VERY SLOW OF UPDATES. Even if they send out updates I cannot see how (I or anyone else for that matter) can update because our darn(be nice) cards are full and we cannot change them out.
Someone should be able to crack this code.

copy this link and read all the posts. (now this is PPC but the out come is the same)
    http://www.oncoursenavigator.com/forum/pr.aspx?f=10&m=5314

Q5: Can I copy OCN6 into anoter memory card / larger size card?
A5: No, OCN6 is preprogrammed to a memory card we shipped. If you try to copy the contents of OCN6 memory card to another card, you will get HardwareIDerror error message. However, we always encourage users to copy the content of the original card to a folder in their PC as a backup.

  279. Dave C. says:

I have a V7 1000, and have no problem copying the SD card to another card. I have only tried with a 1GB card, but don’t see why it should not work with 2GB. I’m sure I read that the unit could use up to 4MB card.

PetoI – my V7 1000 came with AC adaptor rated DC 12 volts, 1 amp. It says “switching power supply”, and the centre pin of the connector is +ve.

  280. PetroI says:

Thanks Dave, I hope I can find a 1Amp adapter, most of them seem to be around 300mA.

I have tried both the hotfix and full update, none of them worked, I get “Cannot start the update application. Error 0×000000c1″ when I turn the device on. I deleted some maps to make more room on the memory card, but to no effect. I wrote support, no answer yet.

  281. _b_ says:

    Hey guys,

Here a translation of the german forum postings. I tried it that way but it doesn´t work. The guy who wrote it to the german forum remark that it doesn´t work on every myguide 3000 (depends on free storge of the flashdisk…)

First of all you need a file with the speedcams. E.g. you have a .kml-file, you open it with google earth. “Save as” anyname.kmz. Copy the .kmz-file into the device “Flashdisk/Myguide/POI/Speedcam”. Delete the existing speedcam.spdb
and speedcamUpdates.spud file (Will be renewed). Restart the myguide. Wait for a sattelite fix. Now you should see the speedcams on the map.

    Maybe it will work…

  282. Tye says:

I recently attempted to run the new upgrade for my unit, for some reason the battery decided to die midway through the process of the update, now when i boot the unit it just shows the myguide screen and never loads any menu? Any ideas on a potential fix? I can’t get into the system at all!
    Thanks

  283. Dave C. says:

Tye – have you tried to start it up again with the update SD card inserted?
I have seen from some prvious mails that tapping or pressing the screen when the unit is starting might get you into the Windows screen, but that is only useful if you have a backup of the internal FlashDisk, which can then be copied back into the unit from a SD card.

I successfully copied the original 1 GB card contents to a 2 GB card. It worked fine. I then put movies (xvid encoded) on the 2 GB card and played them back.

I am in the middle of the upgrade process. (full upgrade). Man is it slow. It has been going for about 40 minutes already and it appears to be about 50% done copying the files to the flash. I have it plugged into my car. Luckily my car supplies power to the cig lighter constantly. I can definitely see how Tye’s battery died part way through the upgrade. I would have expected MyGuide to tell us that it would take an hour to do the upgrade in the upgrade document. That would at least give us an idea of what to expect.

    Here’s hoping it finishes.

BTW, for others trying this – it takes a very long time to wipe the flash. There is no progress bar. it sits there looking like it is hung for at least 10 minutes. Just let it go. It eventually makes progress.

I will post back later today when / if it finishes.

Is PNAUPDATE.EXE a true windows ce application?? Mine keeps erroring out?

    Any idea’s???

    Thanks in advance

  296. Dave C. says:

Rob, are you trying the Hotfix (on http://www.v7-world.com), which is just a small fix for the date/time display. I ran that one and it worked OK.
    - or are you trying the full upgrade, which is on http://www.myguidegps.com – I would not recommend trying that until V7 have it on their website (unless we have some confirmation from someone that it works OK on the V7 1000)

  297. Rob says:

    Dave C.

    I tried both…and both fail….

It keeps just errors out on the first boot up when trying to apply the hotfix or full upgrade.

I even tried running the file manualy with the same results. I wonder if thier is something wrong with the unit.

Even tired another SD card – same results.

    Any ideas?

  298. Dave C. says:

    Rob,

For the Hotfix, did you first unzip the file that you downloaded (you should then have folder PNA, and files PNAUpdate.exe and pnaupdate.zip). These items should then be copied to the SD card. If you did that and it does not run, could be something wrong with your unit.
Just a final thought, what are you using to unzip the file? I was using Winzip 8.1 SR-1.

    I unzipped using XP.

Jut unzipped as directed to a SD card…doesn’t run.

    Must be my unit.

    Hello people,

i have the European model (Greece) of MyGuide 3000, if find a cracked “myguide.exe” and a cracked “license.db”, so i tried to install them, cause i was frustrated for an updated map of Greece… but i forgot to back up my flash rom files, so i lost my original license.db. The program is working now with the updated map, but when i try to select another city it’s crashing.

Does anyone has the license.db for the European model ? can you please send it to h.aslanidis@gmail.com ?

    Thanks in advance.

oh in my machine, the “M” button does not work at all :-) I will try to make the patch that you suggest.

  302. Erik says:

I just got this answer from V7/Myguide. I Send this email:

    Dear Sirs,

I just bought the V7 Navigation 1000 with European maps and I am very satisfied with the product.
I would like to know if the MyGuide 6.1 upgrade on : http://www.my-guide.de/en/pro.php?p=11&pv=8 is compatible with the V7 1000 as it is almost identical to the MyGuide 3000 system?

    With kind regards

    XXXX

    And got this reply:

    Dear Mr xxxxx,

please excuse the long answering time, it was not easy to find a certain and correct answer.

The update is compatible with the V7 and the MyGuide 3000. If you have additive questions feel free to contact us.

    Sincerely

So it looks as if th V7 1000 can be patched with the MyGuide 6.1 patch without problems. I will try it sometime in August when I have returned from my vacation.

  303. Brandon says:

Hey everyone. So I just bought one of these V7 1000 systems here in Canada. On for $99 at Future Shop believe it or not! I do have a few qualms about the system, however, and want to know if anyone else has had the same problem? I got it in Regina, Saskatchewan and there were quite a few streets wrong on it. The places were right, but the names were way out to lunch! For example there was a 111th street, which there is nothing even close to that in Regina. And there are a whole bunch of street names that aren’t even in Regina, it sounds like someone just made them up. I traveled to another city today and it was the same thing there! Then I punched in my home address and followed it and ended up at an autobody shop about 3 blocks from my house… I am pretty shocked at how inaccurate it was today. Has this happened to anyone else?

  304. Lebron says:

Hey Dave why cant i play my mp3s in the navigation. I have them downloaded on my SD card but it wont still play. it will only play the sample music.

  305. myguide 3050 says:

There are at least 2 flavor of myguide 3050 sold in the US.

The older kind circa late 2006 runs an older version of MyGuide that is keyed to the specific sd card that is delivered with the device. It will not work if you copy the content to a different SD card. It is a huge pain in the ass because the 1GB card that comes with it has barely any space left.

I also played with a recent copy of the device that come with MyGuide 6.0 and is upgradeable to 6.1. The main difference from the surface is that the software is no longer tied to the factory SD card. You can assemble the software and the map to a big SD card and run off it, leaving some space for your media files. The map, although of the same version(2005.10), are not the same files. The file sizes are slightly different.

There are also a few differences under the skin, the old device’s OS is missing a lot of dlls to run third party software, e.g. TOMTOM. The new device runs TOMTOM just fine.

  306. Rob says:

    Myguide3050,

What version of TomTom did you use and how did you get it to work? Can you explain for all of us?

    Cheers

  307. Brad says:

I believe my operating system on it has crashed. Does anyone know where tog et it. I thought at 1st it was the battery too weak to run it. I had purchased a new one and stil the same thing. The blue lights on the buttons come on but no screen, any suggestions.

  308. Dave C. says:

Brad – what do you mean exactly when you say you purchased a new battery. Did you change the internal rechargeable battery in the unit ??
Have you tried turning it on with the charger/ac adaptor connected (or plugged into a car cigarette lighter) ?
If you have nothing at all on the screen I’m afraid there’s not much you can do, except return it for warranty repair.

  309. Jeremy G says:

Has anyone seen or heard of any updates to the Canadian maps?

Is there a good reason to update a V7 1000 with the 6.1 software?

  310. Ron says:

Has anyone seen the map upgrade on the V7 site. They want you to ship the whole GPS unit to California so they can put a new 2GB card in it with the updated maps. And if you bought the unit before May 2007 you have to pay $99 + shipping. This seems totally ridiculous. I have never seen another GPS manufacturer ask you to send the whole unit to them for a map update. I can see asking you to send back your original 1GB card before sending the new 2GB, but this is ridiculous.

  311. Dave C. says:

Ron – I agree, that sounds ridiculous. I bet they are changing some software in the GPS (e.g. license file) to prevent someone copying the new maps and distributing them on the internet.
I am in Canada and bought my unit in February for $250. Now they want US$99 + shipping to upgrade, which would probably be about $120 total for me – almost half the price that I paid !!

  312. Stephen W. says:

Hey all. If anyone finds an alternative to sending the device away to get up to date Canada Maps, please post it. I’m sure we’re all getting very frustrated with the very out of date Canada Maps.

  313. Thomas C says:

Has anyone found out if “pocket PC” games or other games will work on this? I want to play some games on long trips when I’m not the one driving!
I just bought mine and now I have to send the whole thing to them for upgrade? I think I’m going to copy all original files first so I have copies and try to re-install them after they send it back just to see what happens.

  314. Dad says:

V7 has a PDF under the US verison that tell how to upgrade the maps in a nutshell you have to send them the orig. Sim 1 gig card and they will send you a new 2 gig sim back with the maps. Here is the catch! Free for customers who have purchased the unit between May 7th and Sept 7th, 2007; this
offer must be redeemed by October 31st, 2007 (proof of purchase is required) And you must send in the unit? I think they are doing a software upgrade also! Just want to tell sny one who would like to know….

  315. Robert says:

Brad try turning on your GPS and then while it is on remove the SD card and reinsert it. If it starts up properly it means you have removed your boot sequence from the SD card.

  316. Robert says:

Dave – the GPS only supports upto 2gig SD cards. 4 Gig won’t work

  317. Robert says:

For all those that have a problem with the ‘M’ button a do this fix http://www.instructables.com/id/EWU70X9AWMEXCFHT1C/

Also has a fix for other things. Works great.

For the time problem download the new firmware from V7 site.

Hi, guys. I tried to make a full software upgrade (6.01) to an MyGuide 3000 series, but I received an error message type “Failed to open file:ctype.dat, exiting application”and I can no longer use the GPS in any way. I’ve seen that there were previously some similar cases and I wanted you to help me to solve the situation. I ‘ve made previously a backup on my hard disk with all the content of the SD card, copied them again on Sd after the upgrade failed and again and again the same message “Failed to open file: ctype.dat, exiting application (FortunaODMKeyDoor1119)”. The backed up directory “Flash disk”from the Sd to the the hard drive has 6.02Mb.(data.zip on the Flash Disk root has 198 Kb and on the Flash Disk/MyGuide/Data.zip has 1,319 Kb. Is this correct? What should I do?

Hi, maybe someone here can help. I have one of these that i bought in january. It has worked flawlessly up until a few days ago when all of a sudden whenever i tap the navigate button it gives me a FATAL ERROR cannot initialize databse.

I’ve searched high and low, but cannot seem to find any answers. I’ve called tech support but all i can do is leave a message. if somoene has any information at all or a way to maybe restore this thing I would love to hear it. everything else works except the navigate screen.

  331. steen says:

    Thanks Dave
I em sorry because i wasent clear in my questions – about age – its because wenn I open up it says – wednesday, January 1. 2003 – It seems too that the cards are at least 4 years old ???
I would like to geth the up to date cards – I have scandinavian and europa cards -

Anyway it works fine – I have just been on a 3 days vacation in the old east germany – and it works perfect in towns and small roads – but its a pitty that man allways haft to reset the date and time – i dont know if thats the couse when it takes up to 10 minutes to find the satelites.
    Steen

  332. Dave C. says:

    Hi Steen,

When the unit receives the satellite signal it will automatically set the date and time. If your unit is taking a long time to find the satellites, then the signal must be weak for some reason.
You could try using an external antenna. You can buy MMCX antenna here for CDN$20 with free shipping:
    http://www.gpspeople.ca/
I have one in my car mounted under the dashboard and it works great.

  333. Steen says:

    Thanks again Dave
It may be a good ide for me too geth an extern antenna- it could prowide a better communications – the problem may be that my car have a heatresisten windschiel og maybe the satelites may not have discovert this part of denmark – well the last its only fun.
I have heard that the unit kan be supplied with an USB device ther will easy the installation of updated maps – have you any knowledge hav that can be done ?
    Thanks for your responce

  334. Dave C. says:

Hi Steen, Here is the link that shows you how to connect a USB cable to the unit:

    http://www.technofumbles.com/weblog/2007/01/hacking-v7-navigation-1000-gps.html

(- But I do not think it can help with the installation of updated maps as the maps are only on the SD card.)
Yes, I’m sure your heated windshield would cause a problem.

So you are in Denmark – I have been there a few times as I worked for Bruel & Kjaer (in Canada)

    Dave C.

  335. Michael says:

I just bought a V7 as a clearance item but it came with no software. Can someone send me a copy of the original software so i can get the gps working. jm777s@hotmail.com Thanks a ton .

  336. Tuzi says:

    Hi there.
Just bought one of these V7 1000 units at the CNE for CAD175.
Works just as everyone has noted, slow start up, very slow to find GPS signal, “M” button just looks pretty, 1GB SD CARD quality sucks.

Applying the ‘fixes’ gets the “M” button to work, and copying the SD card data to HDD, then to larger(2GB – CAD22.95) SD card works seemlessly and seems to resolve the power-on-eject-insert-SDcard issue.

The unit’s not difficult to play with as far as the USB port modification’s concerned(haven’t done it yet), and adding access to Explorer couldn’t be easier(more so than with the MIO c210).

Haven’t tried the fix/patch for the Clock issue yet, that’s next. Battery seems to only last about a solid hour of play before I get nervous and reach for the INCLUDED AC adapter.

Has anyone tried the external MMCX antenna or the TMC tuner options?

I am a bit upset that I need to mail (international) the entire unit & card to get an (map)update that’s only supposed to be a card thing. This seems rather silly and a complete waste of my money.
Has anyone attempted this and spoke about the ridiculous process with their agents on the phone?

Well, off to play a little more…

  337. converd says:

To get Canada.FBL just google canada.fbl, and you should be able to find it.

That’s what I did to get a copy. I also installed the latest operating system and it worked fine.

  338. Tuzi says:

Ok… so i applied this “fix” for the time issue. It basically gets rid of the clock on the display and sets the unit to wait for a GPS time sync (takes a couple minutes to synchronize after GPS signal found).

However, in applying the fix, the keyboard “M” button issue is reverted back to non-functional, and the fly-over speed is reset (i had applied both these ‘fixes’ prior to the V7 patch/fix). Thus I had to re-do all these changes to the files in the Flash directory… as well, my background images were reverted back to myguide default images.

Strangely tho, when trying to copy the zip file from \Flash Disk\MyGuide\ , the unit came up with an error 36 code. Luckily I made a copy of the flash disk contents prior to the hotfix and simply copied it back to my unit.

    The adventure continues…

  339. Tuzi says:

Ok… with the soft-keyboard that comes up.. it’s a German keyboard layout… most notibly the Y and Z keys are swapped. How can we fix this?

    Anyone else notice?

  340. Michael says:

Thanks for the tip Converd. I have tried a 50.9 and 90.6 canada.flb files. I might be loading them wrong?? I’m just coping them to a blank SD card and putting it in the V7 while it’s off. I get no GPS opion on the screen. It might just be the files I downloaded were no good. Can anyone help?
    jm777s@hotmail.com

  341. Tuzi says:

Michael, you also need to copy the system files and GPS navigation program files from the original SD card over to the new one.

  342. Sunil says:

I tried to contact the v7-world to get the map update service . but no one picks up the phone it goes to voice mail all the time and i left numerous voice mails and no one responded

  343. Michael says:

Tuzi, I don’t have a copy of the sytem file or GPS navigator program. Where can I find this? I was told by the saleman that I should have no problem geting maps for the unit I bought since it came with nothing. I guess the salesman needs to do some research.

  344. David says:

Me too, I left some voice mails and no return.
I’ve send email and Anthony referred me to the pdf.

    I just want the address!!!

  345. Tuzi says:

    Michael,
The GPS nav program, maps, and system files for the unit are included on the 1GB SD card the unit is typically sold with. If you don’t have those, I think you’ll have to try your luck with the folk(s) at V7… but like the others say, I too have called and only left with an option to leave voice mail.

  346. Erik says:

I just updated my V7 PMD 1000 with the files from http://www.myguidegps.com ( http://www.my-guide.de/en/pro.php?p=11&pv=8 ) and it works without problems.

The menu button now shows route information when pressed.

  347. T. Morris says:

Is the map update offer ( free for units purchased recently) open to Canadian owners or do I have to use a US address.

Has anyone actually completed the shipment to and from the US and received updated data?

    Wes

  348. Claude says:

    >Has anyone actually completed the shipment to and from the US and received updated data?

Hum, is someone “brave” enough to send his unit all the way to California just for an update… without even knowing if the new maps are really fixing basic mistake! (like the missing bridge between hawkesbury and Greenville ) I know that I will not paid for the update nor paid for the cost of shipment.

Unless they change their policy regarding maps update, I will simply say that I’m very disapointed with My Guide product!

I cannot beleived that they ask you to fill the form on the web to help them fix their mistake and then try to charge you to correct BASIC mistake!

If it was for an update due to new road, ok but basic mistake from their part is not acceptable.
