V7 MyGuide 1000
Dec 15, 2006 gps navigation, myguide

We thought we had covered all MyGuide GPS navigation systems but it looks like we missed one. Today we have the V7 MyGuide 1000, which seems to be the North American version of V7 PMD 1400. The products look identical however the pre-loaded maps are different. The one on NewEgg has maps of 50 US States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, Western Europe incl UK, Scandinavia, The MyGuide V7 sells for $250 which is a good price for a product that offers the most comman basic features such as 3.5″ touch screen, integrated battery and speaker, and an SD slot.

I just bought a brand new V7 Navigation 1000 PNA at Future shop (Canadian Hi-tech shop)
I have a question about the downloading of European cards for this American V7 1000 version but they could not answer to my question.
I hope you would help me more.
My question is :
- Can I find and download European cards for this V7 Navigation 1000 that I just bought in Canada ?
- If yes , what is the price of the downloading for the European cards ?
Thanks for your help

Try emailing V7 (their email is on the back of the box). You could also try http://www.myguidegps.com (makers of the software) and if that fails http://www.navshop.com/en/index.php (makers of the actual maps).
If you do get in contact with anyone, could you let me know? Updated maps would be very nice.. the ones included appear to be quite inaccurate and outdated.

Hello,
I was wondering if their are any updates on the card because their are a few roads i need to go on that are not showing up on my gps. I think it may be an old map service

Just bought this unit for my son.
Really surprised at the lack of instructions for operation.
Took some time to figure it out and still are stumped at one thing.
What is the purpose of the “M” button on the upper left side?
Also this unit does not seem to be able to keep track of the time & date.
Any suggestions?

I have the same problem as you, I will be going back to the dealer and ask for explanations. Everytime I power off, I lose all my settings.

HM Let me know if you come up with anything.
And I’m still wondering what the “M” button does 8)

Hi KEN, I returned it to the shop and exchange it with a new one, same type.
I will try this one and see, will let youknow as soon as I know.
The (M) button suppose to return you to the menu, I know it does not always work.
January 3rd, 2007 at 5:41 pm
First of all, the instruction manual is on the cd that came with the device.
Go to “My Computer”
Right click on the CD and press “Open”
Manuals are under Manuals.
“MapLoader SD” will setup your SD card again. You could get all fancy and try to copy the “SD” folder to your card.
My “M” does not work. Aparently it’s the same as “Menu”
Myguide.com has EU maps.
NA maps are 2005
Press the “SAT” icon, on the right side, press “Time Sync” and leave “Auto GPS update” on. Put the PDA -500 for EST and it’ll update automatically.
Bought in Ottawa at FS for $269
January 3rd, 2007 at 9:47 pm
Thankyou Jim Wy.
I had put the CD in before but it had opened up to the maps.
Didn’t see any manuals until I followed your instructions.
You got it for the same price I paid. Seems to be a good deal.
Thanks again.

http://aresdigital.com/faq2.htm
the M button is pretty useless but page above explaines that its to scroll game items :S
as the v7 is just a rebranded myguide unit
also maybe get support from this site as its their americas site even though its pretty weak…
hope this helps shed some light as it did for me…
also looking in to hacking a phonebook for lookups into the unit, put apps under the games folder and edit the addons.txt but they need to be for windows ce.net 4.2 arm processor as its hard to find stuff for it you think a lousy phonebook for NA would be a common item among PPC user :( if you add stuff to it thats not for those requirements it will give you an error msg saying unsupported wince application as its done for me because i cant find anything for 4.2 mainly everything was for 3 or 5 oh well guess because 4.2 is more a developers platform then userbased… goodluck hacking!

Thank you

I have to buy V7 myguide 1000 and like the others I have to notice that the button M did not have really a function, moreover it is true that it does not preserve the date and the hour more the charts misses precision.
I would thus like if possible to update this one and if possible I would like to exchange the charts of Europe against that of the United States like of Canada. If that you interress leave me the knowledge in me write with vaillam@navcanada.ca I awaits your news, thank you…

I also got this unit on a boxing day sale at FS. I love it as it’s very accurate, but the things that don’t work bother me the most. The (M) Button which is suppose to bring you to the Main Menu. Although this is minor to me.
Also, I’ve found that sometimes when I start the unit, it just hangs (typical Windows style) with no error message or anything. I have to turn it off and back on. Works sometimes, and not others.
I really hate the fact that settings aren’t retained (at least the time/date should be). I have mine set to sync, but I don’t always use it for the GPS feature.
I wish this unit could play MP3 while using the GPS, but no big deal. Also the lack of instructions and websites out there are killing me. There’s got to be something out there.
Anyway, I hope my next post will help out more, since I’ve emailed support about the issues I have with this unit. I just sent it, so I’ll post their reply once I receive it. I questioned all the above plus map updates and where to get them.
Thanks,
Dave

I just bought a V7 1000. But I can not get GPS signal most of the time. I only succeeded in getting the signal in the morming. I turned it off later and turned in back on in the evenning. But I could not get any GPS signal any more. Anybody know why?
January 4th, 2007 at 10:50 pm
Jason, it tends to be slow at locking in to a satellite. Make sure you are in a clear area. Once locked in it should remain connected regardless of where you go (except inside some buildings). At times I’ve waited 10 minutes for it to connect.
I’m not sure why it takes so long sometimes.

“HM Says:

The V7 is supposed to accept up to 4 gig. It’s just a simple SD card as far as I can see. The card in it now is 1 gig
January 5th, 2007 at 10:52 am
Yes, you can buy up to 4 gigs and load it with all the MP3’s, Movies and pictures you want.
No response to my email yet. I’ll keep you all posted.

One more thing
Can someone please post the phone number, email and web site of the support people for this unit, I could not find it on the net.
Thanks
January 5th, 2007 at 11:55 am
Hi guys, I just bought this unit as well. And I’m wondering if you guys have the same problems I do. Whenever I restart the unit, I have to re-insert the SD card before it will read the card and show the “Navigate” option in the main menu. Anybody else having this problem?
January 5th, 2007 at 2:06 pm
Yup, same here. It seems that as long as power’s applied to the unit (plugged into the charger, but w/ the unit off) it is good. But if I have the power A/C or charger removed AND it off, I have to double-pump the card to get it to recognize. Anybody else have this problem?? If everybody has it then it’s a s/w problem device wide. If only a few have it then mine will be going backw/ an exchange. PS I’m thinking about the $57 4 yr warranty now a lot more too :-) For $250+ this thing does everything I want it to, but w/o the monster price tag.

January 5th, 2007 at 11:20 pm
Yes i have most of the same issues as well…..re-insert the sd card half the time upon starting to get Navigate button. Time is out of sync and I have to reset time and time zone.
(M) button is useless. The only beef I have is that I can’t create a route and way points on my pc and download it via USB to the V7 1000…but hey for the money it is a great unit. I usually pick up no less than 8 sats in under 90 seconds and even used it just sitting near the window in my house. it even worked walking around in the kitchen and gave me my km/h athough accuracy was compromised to the tune of 1.8-2.1 meters.
recalc also doesn’t show the shortest route or an alternate route
January 6th, 2007 at 12:24 am
OK, I have a bunch of information for everyone. These were my questions and the responses I got from the US company supporting them.
1. Sometimes the Windows CE doesn’t load. The unit hangs at the MYGUIDE display screen. I am forced to turn it off and back on. Eventually it will continue, but sometimes it takes 3-4 times powering on/off before it does. Is there a way to fix that?
Response: If this continues we will replace the unit for you.
2. When I press the top-left button labelled (M) on the unit, nothing happens. I am told it’s suppose to go to the main menu? Is the button useless?
Response: the m button does not return to the main menu as indicated in the manual. It does scroll through the choices in POI and Games.
3. Can MP3’s play while the GPS is on?
Response: you cant use the mp3 while in navigation mode.
4. Why isn’t the time saved after I power the unit off and back on again? I thought the time/date would retain in memory.
Response: the date and time is adjusted when you receive a gps signal you only need to change the time zone once and ignore the time and don’t change the time that appears above the time zone screens.
5. When is the new map coming out for Canada? There is a new highway on-ramp where I live that’s been there for 2 years and it doesn’t appear on the GPS map.
Response: maps will be available in march.
Here is the contact information where I got these answers from:

If you have any questions please call toll free 1 866 217 9887
Anyway, hope this helps answer a few questions anyway. If anyone contacts these people for any other questions, please pst the responses here. It would be nice for everyone to see.

I bought V7 Navigation 1000 from futureshop website during Boxing Week & I like it very much. It’s more portable, has more useful features than Garmin C330 (refurbished sold at CDN$299 during Boxing Week) and it’s GPS function was also solid. Garmin C330 was easier to use, however, it’s very hard to do route planning and it takes you more steps/clicks to setup a nearby location (cannot remember recent cities), which is quite annoying.
Besides, the AVI movie playback feature of V7 is very good & actually more useful than most people think. It’s 3.5” screen was big & clear enough to offer you same feeling as watching TV from a normal distance. So now I can watch some movies in a more relaxing way (on bed or while waiting). The 4 games offered by V7 are also decent. These are not cheap, crappy mini games, they are well designed, well presented and enjoyable.
However, the MP3 playback & especially picture viewer feature if V7 are not that practical, since it just put all files in the same list however you organize folders. Also it displays pictures & scrolls image list very slow, so it’s very hard to locate a specific picture from the long list.
Of course, in order to use above features (or to add more maps, upgrade maps in the feature), you have to buy another SD cards, better >2GB if you want to play a whole movie. Probably you also have to buy a SD reader/writer. SD cards on on sale these days both at Futureshop & Bestbuy and SD reader/writer does not cost much. This extra cost for me is less than $CDN80.
V7 Navigation does offer more value than it’s inexpensave sale price, however, many buyers would not appreciate it since this product has no printed manual or even a clear guide on where to find the pdf one. So unless you got some experience with eletronic products and even know how to handle SD cards, basically you would miss many of it’s neat feaures. You would not even navigate to USA since the USA maps were on the CD but not on the orginal SD cards! No wonder I saw many “open box” V7s in futureshop which means lots of buyers just choosed to return it with frustration.

V7 Navigation 1000 (M) Menu-button bug fix
Those who have a V7 Navigation 1000 have probably noticed that the Menu (M) button doesn’t actually go to the menu. It doesn’t do much of anything actually (other than behave as “up” for a few menus), which is quite disappointing since there are only really 3 buttons you can use on the front (excluding the backlight on/off button) and the other two you will usually want to keep at their default functionality (zooming in and out).
Oh hey, what do you know – if you followed the instructions in my last blog entry, you will have access to change this!
1.Take the v7 sd card and put it into a card reader wich you can plug into a usb port to your compuer
2.Browse to \Flash Disk\MyGuide\ in Explorer (on the PC).
3.Copy the 1.3mb Data.zip to your PC’s hard drive.
4.Rename the Data.zip on the GPS to Data.orig (as a backup).
5.Open the Data.zip that you copied to your PC and extract config\keybind.txt from the archive.
6.Open keybind.txt in Notepad and scroll down to the [CARPOINTA1000] section.
7.Below this, add the following line: UP=”MAINMENU”. The section will now look like this:
[CARPOINTA1000]
UP=”MAINMENU”
39=”ZOOMIN_DISCRETE”
37=”ZOOMOUT_DISCRETE”
8.Save keybind.txt and replace the original keybind.txt in Data.zip with your edited keybind.txt. Make sure that you actually replace the file and that it goes into the correct directory of Data.zip.
9.Copy the updated Data.zip back to the GPS (put it back in \Flash Disk\MyGuide\).
Done and done! You can now start MyGuide and the Menu (M) button will now behave just like going to MAIN MENU
You can actually replace MAINMENU with many other useful commands, of which ROUTEINFO is a good choice. As it is obviously the intended behavior of the Menu buttons is MAIN MENU. Have a look through keybind.txt to get an idea of what other commands you can try.
Of course, if you don’t use the zoom in/out buttons, you can change the bindings on those too.

V7 Navigation 1000 (M) Unlocking
I have a V7 Navigation 1000 gps unit that i have managed to sort of unlock. While doing some research i think this is the same as MyGuide 3000.
Anyhow on the flash card that comes with the GPS you have a file called addons.txt , simply put this line in…
Windows = “”, “\\”
Save it and put it back in the gps and you will have a windows button appear and then just tap on it 2 times and you are in windows ce !!
This is the U.S model and im desperately trying to get it to work with european maps and would apprechiate any input from the experts. Thanks!!
I’ve actually posted full instructions on opening up the V7 Navigation 1000 on my blog.. http://www.technofumbles.com/weblog/
It does require opening the unit and making (minor) hardware modifications to expose a USB port, so be warned that you will likely void your warranty. Having said that, it gives you full access to the device so you can change anything you want – including make bug fixes. ;)

Dave,
I went thru navigating in the Myguide Folder on the Flah Memory (Not the SD Card). I noticed a licence.db file in the directory tree.
I tried to replace this file with 2 other similar files, one for the Mio and the other one from the Igo 2006 software.
In both case I received similar messages telling me either it could’nt find coordinate for the licence or that the license is for another device (Can’t recall which message came with which attempt though).
I guess if you can get a license.db from a european V7 model then you should be able to access the european maps.
Please keep me posted if you have a chance to test it with a better license.db file than I personally was.

In other words instead of keeping it as a number and street name can I change it to a nickname name??
-2- I have notice while driving on the 401 in Toronto, the GPS asks me to enter the collectors and exit to express lanes in and out until my destination all the way through, is there a way to set it up to recognize the 401 as one highway rather than two???

Hi,
I am having a strange problem with this product. If I turn it on I get all the menu items ( navigate , games , multimedia , settings ) . But if I turn if off and back on again I only get multimedia and settings. I have to take the SD card out and put it back it again before the navigate and games show up. What’s going on here ?
Thanks in Advance

I had the same problem with getting the multimedia and settings upon startup until I bought a Kingston 2 Gig SD card. The problem never re-occured since.
February 5th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
I just noticed that if I push the card in ( even though it’s already in ) it seems to bring up the navigate and games menus.
Is there a way I can get the “M” to call up the menu ? The file mentioned in previous posts doesn’t exist on my SD card.

I own a v7 1000 and dont have a lot of knowledge on how GPSs work. But i was wondering, since it can be hacked and it runs windows OS, is it possible to download Google maps on it and then use those for navigation, instead of the outdated Canda map it comes with ?
February 19th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
I have the command list of IGO below:
TILTDOWN
TILTUP
SWITCH_MAP_COCKPIT
ROUTEINFO
FIND_ADDRESS
PUTPINTOGPS
ZOOMIN
ZOOMOUT
ZOOMIN_DISCRETE
ZOOMOUT_DISCRETE
ROTATELEFT
ROTATERIGHT
MOVELEFT
MOVERIGHT
MOVEUP
MOVEDOWN
FOLLOW_OR_ANNOUNCE
MAINMENU
MINIMIZE
VOLUMEUP
VOLUMEDOWN
TOGGLEMUTE
MUTE
UNMUTE
BRINGMAPTOTOP
GOTOHOME
PREVSCREEN
SETTINGS
I map the M key to FOLLOW_OR_ANNOUNCE, so when I press it, it will tell me the route instruction again.
February 19th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
Also I change the IGOPATH.txt to
[modules]
Settings = “icons\settings.bmp”, “settings”, 1
Multimedia= “icons\media.bmp”, “Multimedia”, 0
Explorer = “icons\files.bmp”, “\\Windows\\Explorer.exe”
…..
Now explorer will always available in the front.
February 19th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
More, to change the voice you like, take a look in “Flash Disk\data.zip”. Under “ui\settings” there is a lang.ini file. You can edit it to fit your way
For example, I use English US as the language but I will like to use the UK female voice as the guidance. So I edit that lang.ini
….
[languages]
lang = “english US”, “ui\settings\flag_usa.bmp”, “English (US)”, “english_m1_us”
I change it to
lang = “english US”, “ui\settings\flag_usa.bmp”, “English (US)”, “english_f1_uk”
Now I can enjoy the voice more while still using the US english as the language. Even though I don’t know what’s the difference between US and GB English.

Hello guys, its really helpful to read your comments. I think i read them all, but i face a problem that its not mentioned.
I have the european edition of V7, the MyGuide 3000. I just bought it and i charged it. i left it indoors for 3 hours but i got no signal. I got it outdoors on my roof for about an hour now, really exposed to the sun & sky and hopefully gps signal, but i still get no gps signal. is it normal to take that long to get connected the first time?
thanx in advance for every reply

Do your SD cards have anything on them? Did you copy the data from the original card to the second one? If you did; are you using windows operating system to copy them? because the v7 uses wince. If you can see the gps data and folders on both cards on your computer, then the problem may be your unit. Other posts show that there is a problem with some of the original SD cards that came with the unit. Could it be possible if you replaced it with another original V7 SD card that it too, is also a bad card?./

The M key issu seems to be a code problem that is only resolved by hacking the unit. The processe is detailled at url:TechnoFumbles.com – Fumbling around with technology Hacking the V7 Navigation 1000 GPS . The whole thing is rather complex and not for
I still have not bought the unit. I found that Dell sells the unit for 299$CND with Maps included on SD Card:
a) 50 US States incl Hawaii & Alaska; Canada;Guam; Puerto Rico
b) Western Europe incl UK, Scandinavia
c) Complete Europe incl. Western, Central & Eastern Europe .
Anybody have any info on this.

Hi Tyler – V7 tech support told me that they will have new maps available in April. I guess they will appear on the download section of their website: http://www.v7-world.com/
March 15th, 2007 at 2:34 pm
Sweet thanks Dave!!
March 16th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
Has anyone tried the following functions ? – they don’t work for me:
1. Auto Night Colours – supposed to automatically switch to night colors just before sunset.
2. Warn When Speeding
3. Backlight-Smart Powersave
By the way, if you have trouble with the Navigation button not appearing when you turn the unit on, and have to pop the SD card out and back in to get it, call V7 and ask for a replacement SD card : 866-217-9887 (or email service@videoseven.com )
March 19th, 2007 at 10:26 am
Dave C, I emailed Ares support and they told me WARN WHEN SPEEDING does work in the US. I had no luck either also noted in NAV setting ADVANCED under display option, select one of the 3 fields (left, middle, right) for speed limit. Anybody have a clue!
March 20th, 2007 at 11:57 am
Hi everyone,
Here many people asked the same question but I couldn’t do anything with the provided answers. Is it possible that someone puts all the content of the European Map SD to somewhere that we can download?
Or is there any DIRECT link? I’m sure many many people will be really thankful if someone can help.
Thanks.
March 24th, 2007 at 9:12 am
HI EVERYONE,
HAS ANYONE GOT “WARN THEN SPEEDING” TO FUNCTION AND IF SO HOW?
SUPPORT SAY IT FUNCTION IN U.S?
March 26th, 2007 at 8:22 am
It’s going for $199 today only on dell.ca’s Days of Deals. Good buy?
March 26th, 2007 at 8:25 am
After reading the great review of the V7 I decided to buy one today.
Got it from Dell’s Days of Deals sale for $199.99CDN.
Sales ends tonight before midnight (not sure which timezone — either EST or PST). So hurray if you want to get in on the deal!!!!
Click on Link:

March 27th, 2007 at 5:04 pm
$199CDN is an amazing price. This unit has a few glitches, but for that price you can’t go wrong.
For anyone who has problems with low signal, or slow aquisition, I would recommend you try an external antenna. I just bought one from http://www.gpspeople.com for CDN$19.95 with free shipping. Part number AT-555, MMCX external antenna. It works really well. It just about doubles the signal strenght, and I was getting an accuracy of 1 metre consistently. Now I have to figure out how to mount it on my car.
March 27th, 2007 at 7:12 pm
I followed the steps above to modify the DATA.ZIP in the \Flash Disk\MyGuide in my PC, then copy back to the GPS, then, it can not start. (nothing displays after turn on the power). I guess the zip file is damaged. Anyone knows how to fix it? Please help!
March 27th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
Dave C, I just bought this unit, but found that there’s no “data.zip” under \Flash Card\My Guide\.
Is there a workaround?
Thanks!
March 28th, 2007 at 7:15 am
Also get this weird intermittent problem where I get the Navigation menu, power off and on again, and then it’s gone. So weird. As if the SD card is defective. Is there a work around? Thanks!
March 28th, 2007 at 11:12 am
Edward: Are you sure you replaced DATA.ZIP in Flash Disk\MyGuide\, as there is another DATA.ZIP in the root of the Flash Disk. Strange you get nothing displayed at all. Not much you can do if you can’t get into Windows! Maybe someone else here has suggestions ???
Philip Liu: You are probably looking on the SD card. There is no Data.zip on the SD card. It is on the internal Flash Disk. Be careful – you can wreck the unit if you change the wrong file (see previous message!)
Emmanuel: Yes, it’s the SD card that is defective. See my previous mail and call tech support. They should send you a replacement SD card.
March 28th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
Not sure if I’m missing something or it’s software bug? Planing a route from Toronto to NYC gives as result a way through Montreal… None of route parameters changes it. Even if I change to shortest route it still goes via Montreal which gives 1200km distance while crossing border after Kingston it’s about 800km. Any idea why works like this? thanks in advance.
March 28th, 2007 at 11:44 pm
here are all the updates for Myguide 3000 V7 navigatin system http://www.myguidegps.com/en/pro.php?p=11&pv=8
March 29th, 2007 at 11:00 am
Hi Dave C.,
I edited keybind.txt file and coppied it back to Flash Disk\MyGuide but I got error message: failed to open file: ctype.dat.
What should I do to avoid this error.
Thanks
March 29th, 2007 at 5:26 pm
Hi Timi,
What did you do exactly. You should have copied flashdisk/myguide/data.zip to the SD card, made the changes to keybind.txt in the data.zip on your computer, and then copied data.zip back to flashdisk/myguide/
I’m not sure what the error message is but maybe you don’t have the correct path information for keybind.text in the data.zip. The path information should show config/
Did you keep a backup of flashdisk/myguide/data.zip ?
I could email you a copy.
Just as a check, the data.zip in the root of Flashdisk should be 457Kb, and the one in Flashdisk/myguide/ should be 1348Kb.
March 29th, 2007 at 10:50 pm
Hey Guys – I just picked up the v7 1000 … I can’t seem get mp3’s to work. I created a folder called MP3 on the SD Card (as indicated in manual), but the unit doesn’t seem to recognize it….and what’s more, the “navigator” option on the menu seems to dissapear. It re-appears once I remove the MP3 folder from the SD Card. Any thoughts…Perhaps I should give it more time to recognize ???
March 30th, 2007 at 4:58 am
Hi David,
Thanks for your quick respone. I think the problem is the Winzip file, I use difference PC and the ZIP file working correctly.
March 30th, 2007 at 9:50 am
Any comments regarding the MP4 feature? Has anyone tried using this device to watch videos?
March 30th, 2007 at 9:55 am
Chanada,
I can watch video in this unit very good, the movies I have is in Divx format.
March 30th, 2007 at 11:42 am
Dave,
Thank you for the quick response. I did replace the Data.zip in the correct place. But don’t know why it returns nothing. (I did the work while the device was charging. I don’t think it will cause the problem.) Maybe the only way to fix it is to make it “USB-able”, but that is too much to me. Too bad, I have to return it.
March 30th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
Vic – it’s probably a bad SD card. The ones supplied are of poor quality. Tech support should send you a replacement SD card.
Just for a test I took my old SD card that had trouble giving the Navigation button in the menu and put a folder on it called MP3 with a couple of tracks in it. It worked fine a couple of times, but then I could not get the Navigation option, so I deleted the MP3 folder, and it still won’t work. When I look in Windows Explorer on the V7, it does not even recognize the card anymore. (works fine in my computer card reader or my camera!). There seems to be a combination of problems with the poor quality sd card, and the card reader in the V7.
I am a little nervous now to try and put some MP3 on my new card in case that also stops working!!
March 30th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
I was wondering if u can run like windows moblie 5 on this system or something like it if u can, can u plz email me the directions on how to do it thank you :) dell is selling this unit again for $199 :)
March 30th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
sry my mail is Pezzer44@hotmail.com
March 31st, 2007 at 1:40 am
Thanks Dave. I seem to have got it working – after clearing out the sd card and reloading the maps etc.
Someone mentiond that theyheard the maps are going to be updated in April Does anyone know by what method the unit would get updated…ie. automatically via gps?? Just wondering.
Thanks.
April 1st, 2007 at 7:42 am
Vic – see mail above dated 14 March.
April 1st, 2007 at 8:50 am
I just created myself a spare SD with a 256 Mb SD from SANDISK.
I only loaded world and Canada maps.
So far, unit seems to boot every time with the navigation option (which was not the case with the V7 original SD)
For the update maps, I believed that you need to download and replaced them on the SD card. But for sure it won’t be via the GPS signals…
Great unit for 200 Cdn (yes I got it last Monday from Dell)

Any one having problems with the POI? I can’t see any of the services around me or even in Canada. Gas stations and other services shown are only in the USA. Let me know if you can help. Thx
April 1st, 2007 at 3:20 pm
hi all,
Thanx for the great tips and suggestions. I have recently bought a v7 1400 sat nav with uk+irland maps. How can I upgrade for Europe and usa?
ANY SUGGESTIONS?
April 1st, 2007 at 6:06 pm
bam,
I could trade you a copy of the DVD with Canada/USA maps for a copy of your UK/Ireland. You just have to copy the DVD that came with the unit. Email me at deforestradio@hotmail.com if you are interested.
April 2nd, 2007 at 2:51 pm
How can we save favourites on this sat nav?
April 4th, 2007 at 1:26 pm
>Any one having problems with the POI? I can’t see any of the services around me or even in Canada. Gas stations and other services shown are only in the USA. Let me know if you can help. Thx
They work for me in Montreal, I used the french menu but basicly from maps, select the menu, then Express, then POI (not directly POI)
For each type of POI (and inside each type) make sure they are set to be display.
From the main GPS menu (cockpit, maps, option…) select the options, maps
make sure you level of display is set to the max.
From the cockpit or maps, make sure you zoom enough to display the POI.
Once you find them, you can tune these setting to display them as you want (or try to)
Remember that for POI that points to a commercial place )(such as a gaz station) they need to purchase the POI. I beleived that it is the same for the AAA/CAA booklet, Michelin Guide, etc.
Good luck, hope this answer your question,
\Claude

Hi, Dave C.,
I just lost my original flashdisk/myguide/data.zip.
Would you send the copy to me. Thank you.

April 5th, 2007 at 11:52 pm
Hi
I like to know if there is any Chinese voice file can be use with the unit (V7-1000)
Thanks
April 6th, 2007 at 8:39 am
Claude, it is 299 cdn on dell site not 199 cdn as you wrote. Was it on special last week ? Thanks,
April 6th, 2007 at 1:30 pm
As Shay was writing march 28th, there are updates for Myguide 3000 and V7 navigation at http://www.myguidegps.com/.
However I wouldn’t touch the Hotfix in there. It looks like something for German version only.
On the other side, I’m going in Europe at the end of May with my V7… I’ll be looking for Europe maps to feed it!
Enjoy your GPS.
April 6th, 2007 at 6:53 pm
First I have to thank Dave C. to send data.zip file to me.
I have a problem with moive player. I made a folder named moive, and the I put a AVI movie. When I play the avi movie, it pops up a bar with :divx0200 and divx0202. I tried another AVI movie, it pops up play009. Something like that. And it asks me to click OK. After I click OK, it quit back to Movie. Can anyone help to fix this problem. What is the correct way to put moive on SD card. Email: panlimm@yahoo.com
Thank you.
April 7th, 2007 at 6:08 am
Li – it worked OK for me. I just put the AVI file on the SD card (Not in a folder).
April 7th, 2007 at 11:30 am
Dave,
I did exactly what I was supposed to with the Data.zip file and made sure I copied the new file into the flashdisk/myguide folder and I get the same ctype error message when trying to load navigation. Could you send me the original DATA file please, somewhere I must have accidentally erased it too. thanks.
flyerboyz@rogers.com
April 7th, 2007 at 7:31 pm
I check the google. It says that the Divx0200 means the Quarter Pixel feature is not supported. And Divx0202 means GMC feature is not supported.
But I don’t know how to fix it. Is there any diferent AVI file? Who can send me a short sample AVI miove? Or tell me where I can download a AVI moive.
Thank you.
Li
April 7th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
Can this gps play MPEG4 moive? I put MP4 moive on it. It doesn’t work. It should play MP4 moive. But I don’t know why it doesn’t work .
April 8th, 2007 at 6:41 am
Li – I just tried some AVI clip and got error PLAY0109. I think the AVI file has to have Divx compression. Right click the avi file and select Properties, then Summary. I used some software called WinAVI Video Converter to convert DVD to AVI and it worked OK on the V7. Unfortunately I think there are many different AVI formats.
April 8th, 2007 at 7:45 am
>>>>>Thanks for the original and mod files Dave, she works perfectly now. There must be issue I can’t quite figure out with winzip 11. Thanks to you too Li.
regards
Bryan
April 8th, 2007 at 9:09 am
ok, so lets try to get this project going…..
in order to run european maps on this thing we will ned two things, a cracked myguide.exe file and a “one-for-all” license.db file. anybody have any luck with that?
also, I have mio 310 and i like it however i love the menu shell interface that starts up with this device. anybody can please copy off the right files off the flashdisk on the unit and put it on some place like rapidshare etc?
April 8th, 2007 at 11:05 am
Red – you say we need a cracked myguide.exe file – is this file country specific ? How about if we replace the Flash Disk contents with the one from a European unit. Do you think it will then read the European maps?
I think the UK unit actually has a copy of the Flash Disk on the SD card.
April 8th, 2007 at 6:10 pm
Get the world maps, all license.db and myguide.exe crack from this forum

Tom – do you know exactly what the crack for myguide.exe is doing ?
April 9th, 2007 at 1:04 pm
Hi Dave, the http://www.gpspeople.com URL is not valid.
April 9th, 2007 at 2:54 pm
Raymond – sorry about that – it should be http://www.gpspeople.ca
(I’m suprised that nobody else noticed !!)
April 9th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
Hi Dave, just to make sure that the lower right ‘MMCX Active Antenna $19.99′ in http://www.gpspeople.ca is what you mentioned? cuz i cant find anyone with part number AT-555. I’m gonna take one.
Thanx
Leo
April 9th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
Thanks Dave. I have an issue here. I’ve followed the procedures on MyGuide 3000 site to download the latest maps. I plug in the SD card into the card reader and copied all the folders from the SD card to my hard drive for backup purpose. What happened was the backup copies are all corrupted and when I tried to browse into the SD card Myguide folder there is nothing in the folder (no sub-folders at all). I then put back the SD card into the GPS and power it on. Result is that the Nagivation option is disppeared, only the Multimedia and Settings are still there. I tried to pump it for a few times, not progress at all.
Did anyone tried to update the maps and having the same problems?
April 9th, 2007 at 10:42 pm
I guess it is the problem with the SD card. i ever encounted serveral times which i can’t read and format it( a 2G card, not with V7)properly after i did some copy and paste. I used my friend’s sd card reader to reformat it and copy everything in then it came to work , not sure if it works in your case.
April 9th, 2007 at 11:00 pm
Leo,
I even got my PC system hang when accessing the SD card. I have the GPS working for a week but everything seems not working after I pull out the SD card for backup and map update purpose.
If I want to replace the original V7 SD card with a new card I still have to reload all the files to the new card, can you forward me all the files?
April 9th, 2007 at 11:24 pm
Hi, I am not able to restore the folders and files from the DVD back to the SD card. But after I put it back in the GPS the Navigation button and the Games button are still disappear. I will try to get a new SD card tomorrow ;o(
April 10th, 2007 at 6:20 am
Hi Leo – yes, if it says MMCX then that’s the right one.
(MMCX is the size of the connector)
April 10th, 2007 at 8:57 am
If I have to replace the original SD card do I just use the GPS DVD to restore all the files? Also, did anyone having the same SD card issue and have requested a replacement from the supplier?
tks
April 10th, 2007 at 9:18 am
Raymond,
yes,
not sure, but here in Futureshop canada, we were suggested to replace a whole new one(everything) if you want. of course in 1 month.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:19 am
Raymond – I called V7 tech support and they sent me a new SD card (with all the files on it). I have not tried it, but it looks like the DVD will recreate all the files on a SD card.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:37 am
thanks guys. Dave do you have the V7 Tech support number and do you need to sent them back the faulty one?
April 10th, 2007 at 12:56 pm
On the January 3rd, 2007 at 5:41 pm post, Jim Wy sid to “Put the PDA -500 for EST”. Isn’t it gona go back to 12:00 when I close and reopen the unit again?
BTW, you don’t know how happy I am to have found this chat group. It doesn’t solve all my GPS issues but at least it tell’s me I’m not the only one with them.
April 10th, 2007 at 1:17 pm
On January 6th, 2007 at 12:24 am, David Says:
“4. Why isn’t the time saved after I power the unit off and back on again? I thought the time/date would retain in memory.
Response: the date and time is adjusted when you receive a gps signal you only need to change the time zone once and ignore the time and don’t change the time that appears above the time zone screens.”
I’m sorry but I don’t get what they mean. What time zone screen?
April 10th, 2007 at 2:56 pm
Raymond – the number I have for tech support for North America is 866-217-9887. (You might have trouble getting to talk to someone as I think it’s a one man office! – just keep calling).
I did not have to return the old SD card.
Marcel – Just go to the GPS data screen (touch the little satelite dish), and then select ‘Time Sync’ in the top right corner. Then make sure ‘Auto Correction’ is on, and then set your local time in the PDA field. The unit will then remember your local time correction. (Make sure you have a satelite time signal first).
April 10th, 2007 at 3:00 pm
Marcel,
under the setting option you select (Time) and on the bottom of the screen you will see two arrows where you can select your time zone. For Canada I selected Atlantic Time (Canada) then press (OK) on the right hand corner, then you are set. When you go outdoor and lock onto the satellite signal it will follow the selling and display the correct time according to this Time Zone you have set. ;o)
April 10th, 2007 at 3:32 pm
Just asked the support, they asked me to send back the old one after receiving the new one.
April 12th, 2007 at 3:58 am
Hi,
Is anyone willing to deal a copy of his/her v7 Europe dvd with a copy of my us+canada? My email is: sahargahhh@yahoo.com

April 12th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
i got a HUGE problem i tryed to get it so that when i start it up it goes to windows and i noticed while doing so it wiped the flash disk folder n it restarted and now i just get the myguide background and it won’t load anything. if someone knows how to reset it back to factory defalut can u let me know thanx. Pezzer44@hotmail.com
April 12th, 2007 at 11:47 pm
How you know the flash disk folder(not storage disk folder) was removed? if it is ,It could be serious, and in this case i guess the warrent won’t cover it. the folder flash disk should be handled very carefully, cuz they supposed you would not use windows CE explorer. V7 does not come with a reset function, and you need a specific device to write things back, which means only professionals have the devices to restore it.
Make sure everything is clear b4 contact support
take care
April 13th, 2007 at 1:38 pm
Marcus – if you take out the SD card and turn on the unit, do you get the start screen with ‘Multimedia’ and ‘Settings’ buttons ?? If so, you should be able to get to Windows with the SD card in, and the modified addons.txt file on the card.
If you can get to Windows you can reload the flash disk if the contents have been erased.
Let me know if you need the files.
April 14th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
hey i have a buddy that is gonna put a USB cable in for me and i’m hoping i can get to the windows files from there, and no it just shows the MYGuide screen like when u first start it up but i think that when i get it back with the USB cable i might be able to fix it thanx for your help :)
April 15th, 2007 at 12:23 pm
i got my unit back with the USB cord in it and i found out that somehow i changed the background so that the myguide.bmp comes up infront of it so i was wondering how would u change the background image
April 15th, 2007 at 3:38 pm
I need the new Canada map. Where can I get it? I hear there is a 90MB version out but I do not see it anywhere.
Can you use a MIO map on the V7?
THx
April 15th, 2007 at 6:04 pm
Marcus -just a guess, but does IGOPATH.TXT on FlashDisk look like this:
[pre_init]
LangSyncOn = “\\flash disk\\langsync.exe”
[pre_quit]
LangSyncOff = “\\flash disk\\langsync.exe”
[modules]
Settings = “icons/settings.bmp”, “settings”, 1
Multimedia = “icons/media.bmp”, “Multimedia”, 0
[Multimedia]
Picture= “”, “\\Flash DIsk\\XImage\\XImage.exe”
Movie= “”, “\\Flash DIsk\\XMovie\\XMovie.exe”
Music= “”, “\\Flash DIsk\\XMp3\\XMp3.exe”

Hi,
I just got a V7 and i saw that it has games on it…. Is there anyway to put more games on there?
Which games will work?
Thanks
April 16th, 2007 at 12:03 pm
You should be able to hack this unit and install any navigation software of your choice. Check out mionav.com and try the unlocking methods to open up this device to much possibilities. iGo is very good software, although it is not very user friendly.
April 16th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
I got it to work:) thanx all i had to do was wait for my buddy to put the USB cable in n then i just addedthe flash disk folder back :) i was wondering if anyone new of a good site to get some games :)
April 16th, 2007 at 2:41 pm

April 16th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Can somebody please tell me if the Updated Canada maps are avail. I have tried looking everywhere. I hear of a 90mb version but this also isnt found.
All I find is outdated 50MB canada.fbl with all US POI that come up , this is insane. Please can somebody help me with just telling me whether updated canada maps are out???????
Thanks
April 16th, 2007 at 10:02 pm
Im waiting for the canada maps to be updated as well … please let me know if an updated version is available..
April 17th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
There’s been talk about the canada map being updated in April…I haven’t been able to locate as of yet. Hopefully the update occurs soon…
April 17th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
There is no update. I think we’ve been lied to and I should hold dell responsible to tell me when the update is out rather than have me check daily for updates.
April 18th, 2007 at 11:29 am
Hi
I talked with a V7 sales rep and he told me “We do not have a fixed date for the availability of map updates currently; we are actively working to get these ready for the market by the end of April We will publish our next available map update timeline on the website at http://www.v7-world.com.The maps have a date listed so you can verify they are the latest versions, Updated maps for Europe should be available in May…They have yet to determine the cost of the update.”
April 18th, 2007 at 3:53 pm
WHat COST????? There should be no cost for somebody who bought a device with outdated maps. THIS is pure bullshit. Can you tell me who your contact person is so I can take it out on him fully. This is pure bullshit.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:31 am
There is an upgrade for the Myguide 3000 (which I think is the same unit as the V7 1000) on http://www.myguidegps.com/
It upgrades Myguide software 6.0 to 6.1, plus some other small fixes.
Has anyone out there tried it ?? I am a little nervous to try it, but V7 did tell me at one point that they do use the same software.
On this same site there is a ‘new’ map for Canada. What I don’t understand is that it shows the size as 53mB, whereas the on on my SD card is 63mB ????
April 19th, 2007 at 3:47 pm
I have tried the 90M canada map, i guess it is just a POIs modified version. I can really find much more POIs than the original version. The wrong High way exit near my home is still the same. and i was told this one might be the mio310’s original version.
Dave, it’s strange mine is also around 63M(63,289kb) on SD card.
April 19th, 2007 at 5:30 pm
Hi Leo – where did you find the ‘90M Canada map’ ? If the new Canada.fbl file that you found is 90mB, how come it only shows a size if 63mB on the SD card ?
April 19th, 2007 at 6:20 pm
Yes the update for the MyGuide 3000 does work on the V7. Basically, what it does is remove the date and time stamp that is on the main start screen. I imagine that they did this since the time was so messed up anyway, why bother showing it at all.
It appears that after you start the navigation, the time will eventually get updated to the correct time zone as long as you have provided the correct time zone in your settings screen. It switched a couple of times for me +- an hour but after a few minutes, it finally got it right.
The one thing to know is that after you install the upgrade, you will have to re-patch your V7 if you want the M button to go back to the main menu again.
At least this helps a little.
Now, where are those new maps and POI’s?
April 19th, 2007 at 7:54 pm
Can anybody be kind enough to let me have the 90MB version of the CANADA map. At least I can have some POI’s. Here I have no POI’s. I’m totally screwed over and I went from a 60MB file to 51MB and now I have virtually no POI’s, and the same crud for maps. The place I needed to go couldn’t be located. AMAZING.
Can anybody put their 90mb file onto some server or tell me where to get it from. I’m really at my wits end with this problem.
There is no update and I’m doubting any update any time soon which will be meaningful. I bought this last month and my map is 2005 based!!!!!!
April 19th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
If a few of us called they will get the idea that we are pissed off and need an updated map of Canada.

So sad!
I have got Marcus’s problem. Due to upgrading to myguide 6.1 my flash disk was modified and now the gps does not run. I have a freezed my guide page which remains still, like Marcuses. Can anybody kindly send me the contents of his/her flash disk? Could this be found on the cd or dvd accompanying the set? Mine is uk+ireland plus european major roads. Please provide me a copy to replace the damaged one. Beware of trying to update to 6.1….

Timmer G – did you just do the update for the time display (MyGuide3000 Hotfix.zip 4763kb) , or did you do the MyGuide3000 Upgrade (MyGuide3000 200704 Upgrade.zip 28195kb) ?
We have to be careful which one we are refering to !

I have installed an american flash disk and everything works except the navigate button with displaying this message: HardwareIDchanged? Does anybody know how to solve this problem?
Thanks
April 21st, 2007 at 2:58 am
I also tried the update to myguide 6.1 with “MyGuide3000 Upgrade (MyGuide3000 200704 Upgrade.zip 28195kb”.
Like the others my unit (v7 pmd 1400 with maps of western Europe) now locks at the initial myguide screen and I can’t do anything. If I press the screen with thw stylus I get the display properties from ce.net so I guess at least some part of os remains.
I’ve emailed myguide to ask what to do and I just noticed that the upgrade file has been removed from their website (for myguide 3000).
So it looks like those of us who tried this upgrade are stuck at the moment.
The upgrade on my unit began ok but then seemed to fail at something to do with the zip file.
Let’s hope myguide get their fingers out and help us with this.
April 21st, 2007 at 4:24 am
Hi Rob,
The same happened to mine. You can do sth about it to restore all the functions except navigate: tap the screen; click new folder; when it is made go to the top of the page and click go; then click the rectangular button with the broken arrow. You haveto be in the windows set up now. If you have already saved a copy of your flash disk, you can now delete the modified files and folders and reinstal the original copy through your sd card. Then your system will be restored to the original condition. I didnt have a copy of the flash disk, and just installed an american version flash disk but my navigate button does not work. Hope this will help. Can you send me a copy of your dvd and the flash disk if you happen to have the latter.

I have just been given a V7 10000 as a gift.Is it possible to change the voice?
April 21st, 2007 at 8:41 am
Sorry-too many 0’s V7-1000.I’m still getting used to it!
April 21st, 2007 at 1:04 pm
I guess that I didn’t realize that there was both a hotfix and an upgrade/update file for the myguide 3000. I used the HOTFIX ONLY on my V7 and now my V7 updates the date and time correctly. I DID NOT install the upgrade to version 6.1. I noticed that the upgrade was not an english version so I don’t know why some of you living in America would even try to install that version anyway?
You should be able to send a copy of the flashdisk back to the V7 and over write the files that the upgrade did. If not, you may be out of luck for the moment.
April 21st, 2007 at 2:39 pm
Timmer G – the Hotfix also has a German title “Hotfix für den MyGuide 3000″.
I think the Upgrade will work when they get the software corrected. (As someone already mentioned, MyGuide have taken the software off their site. Lets hope it doesn’t take too long for them to fix it!)
April 23rd, 2007 at 8:15 am
Dave,
Good observation as to the Hotfix title being in German as well. I guess that I wasn’t paying attention to that one. :-)
Hotfix – works with the V7
Upgrade to 6.1 – does NOT work with the V7
I apologize if my posts prompted anyone to run the upgrade instead of the hotfix. It certainly was not my intention to confuse the two files that were available for download. From what I have been reading, even if someone did install the upgrade, there is still a way to restore your old flashdisk files to the V7 (providing you made a backup).
There are so many devices on the market that utilize the same map files that I’m sure they are being thoroughly tested to make sure they are compatable with every one. It will be nice to finally see my house next to a road instead of in the middle of a field!
April 23rd, 2007 at 9:29 am
Found a 90mb Canada.fbl file. JUst downloading it now so not sure if will actually work with the V7. Lets hope so, link is below.

Hi,
I bought the Europe version of the V7 1000 through a friend of mine.
I was under the impression at the time that the device can use US maps just by copying those maps on the SD.
Now I know that I should have a license file for that.
I can’t use the GPS now in my own neighborhood when I got no maps…
I’ve tried three files I found from different sites, but they don’t work.
The maps I have already, I’m just missing the correct “license.DB” file.
Would anyone be kind enough to email me the license file from a USA version of the V7?
I would gladly offer the license file from my device for the european maps in return.
Thanks!

Hi,
It wasn’t as simple as I thought, just replacing the license will create a HardwareIDchanged error.
It seems that the cracked exe is the only way to go in that case…

how do you get the version of a map?

April 28th, 2007 at 1:55 pm
Just received the replacement SD card. Does anyone know what the content is in the cd which comes with this new SD card. is it the same with the original V7 Dvd? cuz mine is cracked. i found everything already in this SD card. also there is a manual together which seems to teach you how to copy and reset the GPS. what is the CD for?
April 29th, 2007 at 3:52 am
Thanks Claude, I’ll try that. I sent my unit for replacment and just got the new unit with the same problems. Such a rip off this thing. Did anyone get that 93M Canada map? did it work? i couldn’t find it on that posted website.

The 90Mb map for Canada might be having some updates (because it’s not bigger for nothing) but certainly not for the city I live in.(Kingston,ON)
There is a new road (built for at least 1,5 years) and a major road name change and none shows up in either of the maps(63Mb or 90Mb).
As far as the announced “official” update I don’t know if you noticed a pattern in the forum up above :-))
… January posting, response from tech “updates available in March”
… March posting “updates available in April”
April is almost gone and nothing yet.
April 29th, 2007 at 9:46 am
HA, in the website i provided you need to choose the way you download, choose free button, then you will be asked to enter 4 alphabets or digits, and you can download
April 29th, 2007 at 12:13 pm
Leo, thanks a lot, found it. It worked so much better with the POIs, i now can find services in my area. I’ll try the addresses when i am on the road, I couldn’t find my work address before the update (the place has been there only since the 1960s), I’ll see how it is now. Thanks again.

Hi, When I tried the new map 93mb on my V7, it gives me an error. Can any one tell me please what I’m missing. It works fine with the original one. What do I have to do to have it working.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,

Wagman,
How you tried the map? i just copied it directly to the SD card, replace, rename or delete the old one, which works fine. BTW what the error saids?

I did the same I over write to old one. and used the ~90mb map. I’ll try it again. A message related to licensing.
Thanks for your help.

Just a quick update….I contacted Customer Service to request a new SD card, as the unit won’t give me the navigation button. I asked when the Canada map would be updated and he said that they’re working on it still, but wouldn’t provide a date, nor cost that will be associated. This company seems like it’s a 2 man operation….one dude answering the phone and the other putting the units together in his parent’s basement…service wasn’t too bad I guess, I’m just venting becasue the map doesn’t acknowledge roads that have in some cases been around for 5 years…
May 2nd, 2007 at 2:56 pm
ok, I need more coffee… >
you simply 93 Mb you were not referring to a version,
FYI, all the one I try are 2005.2
To check the map version, power up, navigate, About, maps, the map version should be display for each map, I have Canada 2005.2
============================
I contacted V7 support,
the new map for Canada is still not available.
============================
this is the answer I received:
Thank you for contacting V7 Customer Support.
Our map data is supplied by Tele Atlas, the worldwide leader in high quality digital maps. Our database leverages over 50,000 resources, 60+ field survey vehicles and 200 digital map technicians to provide us with the freshest possible map content.
Should you find areas that need updating, we encourage you to report these to Tele Atlas through the “Map Insight” reporting tool at http://www.teleatlas.com/MapInsight/index.htm. Your direct feedback will be used to help guide future data improvement projects. You may find areas being updated in the above tool, but not in your device. This means that the next revision of map data would have your areas updated.
Although we do not have a fixed date for the availability of map updates currently, we are actively working to get these ready for the market. We understand how important it is to have the needed areas available in the device, and we will publish our next available map update timeline on the website at http://www.v7-world.com.
Again, I thank you in advance for your anticipated feedback and thank you for choosing V7!

Hi guys, after the update (6.1) I cannot get the unit to navigate – every time I try to change the city it freezes – can anyone provide me with a new “flashdisk” file? or do you know any site I can download it?
I really need to use the unit by the end of the week

Dimitris – are you in North America ? -if so, I can send you a copy of my data.zip files – post your email address here.
Reading mail above (19 April) it seems that the update to 6.1 on the Myguide site did not work. In fact they took it off their site. (Where did you get your update from ?)

Has anyone purchase V7 from Dell? Their web-site claims it has European maps (of which I am sceptical), can anyone confirm?

Hi Sagit,
I bought it from buy.com, claiming the same thing – also on the official site it is stated the same, but it had only NA maps – when I contacted customer service they said it was a misunderstanding!
Not sure on the dell site though

Hi,
I bought the V7 (US version) because the website suggested that EU maps are also included! When I realized that this is not accurate I contacted V7 rep and he said – sorry, it looks confusing on the website but we do not provide EU maps (or sth similar) –
then following the “hacking” ideas from this website I managed to make my V7 work in EU too (not perfectly)
basically, if you find a modified myguide exe that can initiate with any license db then you can create a myguide folder (the one in the flasdisk) in a new folder in the storage card – if you start then the myguide.exe from there you can actually use it in Europe – only drawback: can cannot type in addresses (you have to find it in the map and select route to) – it is kind of inconvenient but works perfect in any other way!
cheers,
D

I purchased my V7 last week from newegg, $245 w/ shipping.
It does exhibit the SD card problem some of you have mentioned. I have to remove it and reinsert it when powering up to get the Navigation option.
I wrote the following e-mail:

Hello,
I purchased a V7 MyGuide 1000 from Newegg.com. It arrived today. So far I am pleased but it does seem to exhibit the same problem with the
included 1GB SD card that others have reported. The consensus seems to be that the SD card will be replaced with a compatible unit. Is this true?
If so where do I need to send this card to? I have attached my receipt to

Has anybody been able to obtain Canada/USA map updates? There is a 2007 Update for the MIO GPS, which uses similar software- iGo-MioMap USA-Canada Maps 2007.1
However, it is not as simple as copying the fbl files onto the SD card as there is a license issue.
May 23rd, 2007 at 5:51 pm
Help! I just bought a navigation1000 V7 from overstock.com. I turned on power and insert SD, the screen showed up, but there were no Navigate or Games. Only Multimedia and settings are there. What is going on? what can i do? I reinserted the SD, but it did not solve the problem.
Really disappointing..
Thanks in advance.

Harvey: I’ve looked everywhere and do not see any updated maps available. My units maps are circa 2006 so I’d like an update too.
John: Use the disc that came with the unit and a different SD card than what came with the unit. When you insert the disc into your computer the autolaunch will start the program/map installation process. It automatically detected the blank 256MB SD card I had in my card reader. I copied over about 6 states and I checked the box at the bottom of the program window to install the non-map files. The copy process only took a couple of minutes. My V7 works flawlessly now. I’ll be sending out RMA’d SD card today. I’ll report back to the forum when the new one arrives.
May 24th, 2007 at 11:11 am
John: BTW, what you’re describing sounds like the SD card is empty. All the games, maps and languages reside on the SD card.
I hate not having a modify button on these forums! I can’t even correct a simple speling error. ;)

I just bought the navigator 1000. Can some body explain to me how to down load music on the mp3
May 27th, 2007 at 4:24 pm
lucky – it says in the manual to create a folder on the SD card called MP3, and then put your mp3 music files in this folder. Of course you will need an SD card reader on your computer to do this.
May 29th, 2007 at 8:51 am
hi,
i just bought the v7 navigator 1000 last week.
i do see the date and SD card problem.
but it seems to be a good unit. so will keep it.
but the maps provided are of 1st quarter, 2005.
any idea where we could update/download recent maps?
May 30th, 2007 at 8:03 am
The unit doesn’t have any European maps. V7 is saying It was a mistake and they corrected their website. As for Dell they weren’t sure and they came back and said, it only has NA maps.
The navigation is not the greatest. On hwy 401 while driving it takes you from express to collector lanes and vis versa all the time, also it is missing a lot of streets. V7 support seems weak, no idea on updates or fixes.
May 30th, 2007 at 8:06 am
According to the manual, you can’t have the navigation and music/movie playing at the same time.

Question about the NA version – do the USA or Puerto Rico maps cover the Bahamas?
June 2nd, 2007 at 3:46 am
Hi all,
for updated – I read on a comment above the there is a miomao 2007 update – I checked the V7 with 2006 Miomaps and it works fine (just copied the fbl maps – no license problems). Hopefully it will work with the 2007 too – any idea where to get them?

June 2nd, 2007 at 7:46 am
Hello
I need the maps (Europe) for the V7 1000 by June 14. Even older version is ok. Does anyone know a website or when their going to be released.
June 2nd, 2007 at 8:27 am
Gator 99 – I’m sure the NA maps do not cover the Bahamas.
Ron Jace – the Europe maps will not work on a North American version of the V7 1000, without some hacking of the program and license files. I have not found any way to do that yet.
Anyone know how to do that ?????
Sharath (from 29 may) – why don’t you call V7 and say that you have the SD card problem, and they will send you a new card, presumably with the latest 2006 maps on it.
June 5th, 2007 at 5:48 pm
My unit will no longer start — the bootup stops with the following message: Failed to open file ctype.dat exiting application!
I cannot enter Explorer once this message is dismissed — I only get the MyGuide logo showing. I suspect that there is a problem with some missing files on the flash card which I could fix, but I’m unable to access the card without Explorer. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Sean – try following the mail above from Bam, 21 April.
(hopefully you have copy of Flash Disc – if not let me know)
June 6th, 2007 at 12:52 pm
Hi Dave,
Thanks for the response. I don’t think that I have an intact Flash disk — I did download it and save to my PC, but I think some files are either zeroed out or missing. My problem unlike Bam’s is that I cannot gain access to the OS period — my screen just has the black and white MyGuide logo — the device fails on trying to start the MyGuide launcher. Any ideas aside from installing the USB solution that you can think of?
June 6th, 2007 at 5:31 pm
Dave,
Thanks for the help. I managed to get Explorer up — had to press hard on the screen for whatever reason. Once in Explorer it was a matter of replacing some missing files under the Flash Disk\MyGuide folder.

HM – you need a GPS with “text to speech” option. The V7 1000 does not have that.
June 8th, 2007 at 9:58 am
The “Menu Bug Fix” doesn’t seem to work. I tried it and the button still doesnt really do ANYTHING. Could it be because i have the EU version of myguide 3000? Please help me fix this.
June 11th, 2007 at 9:51 am
Has anyone repaired the “failed to open file: ctype.dat. Exiting application.” as myguide 3000 boots?
i had backed up the files before i went into the sd card to make any changes. when i got the “failed to open file: ctype.dat. Exiting application.” i reinstalled the old back up files and still i have the same problem.
Anyone have any ideas on making my gps to work again? any info would be greatly appreciated? PLEASE forgive me I am some what new to the gps world.
Thanks again for any advice or info.

Kely, would you confirm if the V7 you bought from Newegg does or does not contain european map as it is stated in Newegg product description?
June 11th, 2007 at 6:21 pm
scoolro (Steven) – did you make a backup of all the content of the internal Flash Disk ? If so you could try erasing all the contents of the internal Flash Disk, and then copying your backup files into the Flash Disk.
I think there are a few people above who had the error “failed to open file: ctype.dat. Exiting application”, but their problem was mostly to get back into the operating system again to restore the Flash Disk contents.

Thanks for the quick relpy Dave C, I appreciate it.
I just exchanged the MyGuide 3000. I backed up the new MyGuide SD card and noticed there was an increased size difference by 1 megabyte compared to the old SD card.
I think my old MYGUIDE 3000 was returned and used and they just resold it. Because when I rebooted the new gps yesterday I had a different boot up. I had to select language and agree to some contract on the MyGuide.
I am tempted to do the M Button Hack to Access main menu feature with the M Button.
Has anyone also added the HotFix to their MYguide 3000/3050 to correct the time and also added the CANADA maps to the unit aswell. does it have updated POI’s on the file? Because there is no real poi;s for a big city like Toronto?
AGAIN THANKS for any reply back,
Steven

Has anyone also added the HotFix to their MYguide 3000/3050 to correct the time
Which hotfix is this and does it work with the V7?
Mine will update the date and time (is an hour off so I’m guessing it’s a DST issue) from the GPS sats as it should but that data doesn’t seem to transfer into the navigation applet.
June 14th, 2007 at 1:27 am
The myguide website now has a new update with new features
“Smart Keyboard for easy and more failsafe entry of road- and city names
Tunnel Mode, for showing the next manoeuvre in a tunnel by using your calculated average speed.
You can download information about Road Safety Cameras from the Internet”
It installs ok but I have yet to test it.
The upgrade makes no mention of what format speed cameras have to be in or where to store them on the device or sd card.

Can anyone tell me what the thread size is for the mounting hole?
Thanks
June 14th, 2007 at 6:33 pm
Hey Rob,
I tried to update my GPS MYGUIDE 3000 but i didn’t have enough room in my SD card. Thank god I backed up my files on card or else I would have been screwed.
HAs anyone had luck installing the UPDate on the 3000/3050? I don’t understand why MYGUIDE would only use a 1gig card for the gps.

I think I know how to make it so you don’t have to double pump the sim card to get it to see the Nav. software. when you shut off the unit make sure you exit the Nav. software first I just got this unit Nav 1000 yesterday and had the same problem as everyone else. but in using it today i keeped exiting the Nav. software first and then later turning it on and everytime I didn’t have to do the double pump. Just for the recored, I did install the patch that is on the V7 web site it also solved the time problem now on to updated maps! if I find any I will let you know hope this helps.

June 16th, 2007 at 12:19 pm
Rob – you say you did the update to software 6.1.
Do you have the North American V7 1000
“scoolro” says he didn’t have enough room on his SD card, and also mentions that he has Myguide 3000, which I thought was the European version ?? Maybe scoolro could clarify that ?
June 16th, 2007 at 9:59 pm
hi, can anyone pls tell me where I could find the UPDATE for V7 1000.
June 17th, 2007 at 8:40 am
I did the 6.1 update to my Myguide 3050. I also got the warning about not enough room on my SD card. I deleted all of the non-english voice profiles and then it installed without difficulty. FYI, I have the 90k Canada map installed as well.
June 17th, 2007 at 10:34 am
Does anyone have the update for the V7 1000?
June 17th, 2007 at 1:18 pm
did it up date the Maps? I know there is 2007 Maps out but where are they for the Nav 1000
June 17th, 2007 at 3:00 pm
Hi all. When I first tried to update my v7 (1400 European version) I also got the warning about not enough room on the sd card. What worked for me was to copy all the individual files and not the folder that contains them to your sd card, this will overwrite the “myguide” folder on the sd card and then I had enough space.
Hope this works for you lads over the pond.
Has anyone worked out how and where to add speed camera locations?
Rob
June 17th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
By the way Fran, the update didn’t seem to change any of my (Western Europe) maps, but they’re pretty up-to-date anyway.
June 17th, 2007 at 7:56 pm
where do i get the 90mb canada map? Everyone on this website is talking about it… Will anyone be kind enough to send the 90mb map to my email plz through yousendit.com. hp_sell_account@hotmail.com.
Thank you.

Hey Dave,
Sorry for the delay in reply. I have the MYGUIDE 3050. It’s the American/Canadian model. I found a 110MB Canada.fbl has anyone tried to upload this file to their SD Card with success.
The 90MB canada.fbl does it have an update of POI?
Also any success wth copying the MYGUIDE SD CARD to a bigger sd card to work on the MYGUIDE?
Thanks Again everyone.
June 18th, 2007 at 10:07 am
Hi Scoolro,
Where did you find the 110mb file? I have the same unit as yours and I was able to copy the data from the orig. 1gb SD to a 2 gb card and it works fine. Also, the 90mb file seems to have more POIs than the original file.
Thanks!
June 18th, 2007 at 11:32 am
I just got off the Phone with V7 they say they are in the final stages testing a software updat and new maps! I was told it would not be long.

Hi guys,
here is the link for I-Go maps, I didn’t try to install any yet

June 18th, 2007 at 1:19 pm
Hey Boss Bijou,
Thanks for the quick reply back. How did you copy the original data from the MYGUIDE card to a 2gb card. I formated my 2gb card and pasted all the myguide files into the 2gb card. When i inserted into MYGUIDE 3050 it would npt accept the card because of different seriel number or licence.
Please tell us I am sure we would all like to know. What sd card you using make and model of card. Also the steps and program you used. I am sure we all would appreciate the information. The 110mb CANADA.fbl file I got from a torrent site. I was looking for IGO files and it gave me the update canada file. I cannot store in my card because i HAVE NO SPACE.
Again your info would be important to all of us.
Thaks again for the quick Reply,

Hi Steven,
Just use the program (on the CD that comes with the unit) to format and install the proper sw on a new SD card. It take less than one minute.
I try 2 differents card with success, the unit work even better than using the original SD card (I never got the navigate not available issue ever since I switch SD card). And yes one of those was a 2Gb card.

Hey Claude,
The only files that come with the MYGUIDE 3050 gps is two pdf documentation. MyGuide_ 3000_HW_Manual_UK_final.pdf (2077mb) and Pocketstar_MyGuide6[1].0_Software_User_Manual_UK_v1_09.pdf (5549mb) No other files.
I would love to save my original files to a bigger SD card so I may add media to it and update my gps with lots of room on card.
Is there some hidden file on the cd that comes with the gps?
Are you sure that you can save the orinal files to a bigger card and it work properly on the MYGUIDE 3050 with working navigation?? Please again how what sd card?
Steven
Again many thanks
June 18th, 2007 at 6:24 pm
Has anyone taken a look at the NAV700 or NAV720 products from V7?
June 18th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
For those of you keeping track, I received my new 1GB SD card from V7 tech support this eveneing. The card looks to be a generic 1GB SD card, and the label looks like a sticker printed off an ink jet or laser printer. In any case it does appear to resolve the double pump SD card action previously needed to get into the Navigation program. BTW, the maps on the new SD card are dated Oct 2006.
Also, was rooting around in the \MyGuide\voice folder of the SD card. They are all .ogg files. If you don’t care for the voices that come with the device, I think it would be a simple matter to record a voice of your choosing for each one of the files. Simple but time consuming!
For example in the v_eng_us_m1.zip\audio file there are 120 audio files. I think if these files were remastered with a new voice, and the .zip file renamed to v_eng_us_m2.zip or something similar you could create your own audio files. My voice certainly isn’t worthy of such work. Now if I could only do a solid Apu from the Simpsons impression…

June 19th, 2007 at 6:53 am
Hi Scoolro,
I didn’t do anything special to copy the files from old to new SD card, in fact I’ve tried 2 different cards already. One of them is a 1GB A-Data Speedy SD from TigerDirect and the other one is a no name brand (2GB) and they both work fine.
June 19th, 2007 at 7:55 am
Really I have a 2gb A-Data card I copied all files from the original MyGuide card to my A-Data card but it won’t access the navigation feature on my 3050 gps. It mentions something about license or serial.
Did you do a card to card copy? what program did you use to copy? was it just copy and paste onto your new card?
Can you access the navigation feature? It shows on my GPS but just not allowed/ can’t access the naigation feature.
Has anyone else had the same luck as boss_bijou to copy contents of odiginal MYguide SD card to another SD card and have access to the Navigation feature?
I would love to have the Navigation file to work on a 2gb card so i can update gps and add media contents.
Steven
June 19th, 2007 at 8:07 am
I don’t have an SD reader/writer, so I used my daughter’s digital camera as my reader/writer. I just copy all the files from old SD to my PC and then inserted the new SD in the camera and copy everything back to the new card. BTW, I didn’t do any reformatting of the new SD card.
June 19th, 2007 at 8:48 am
The navigation feature works okay on the gps? you do have the MYGUIDE 3050?
I have access to navigation but it won’t operate do to licencing or serial from other sd card.
I’ll try again.
anyone else have luck like bijou??

Hi I just copyed the file that are under the SD folder on the CD to a new 1G card and it worked no problems. I only copyed maps I needed I had to use my Dell Axim as the card reader/writer. Now to put music on it.
June 20th, 2007 at 5:01 am
I must have got a different CD. Mine just has the two files pdf documentation. On the CD it says “NAVIGATION MYGUIDE 3000 DOCUMENTATION”
Does anyone or can anyone make a copy of the cd and upload it to a TORRENT site so others like me may download.
I would appreciate it alot.
Or does anyone know where I can download the MAPLOADER DVD.

Also another question if anyone can answer.
I would like to save the Portugal Map with my American/canadian Maps on the MyGuide 3050. Has anyone tried to save a some eurupoean maps with north American Mapping system.
Again Many thanks to this forum,

June 21st, 2007 at 5:22 am
Hi guys,
First of all,
@scoolro: I’ve installed the new update, the “MyGuide3000_070607_R3_FullUpgrade”, had no issues whatsoever with it. Perhaps a minor bug is that the menu button fix has to be reapplied, since the default action of the button seems to be set to “Route info”. Really a handy shortcut, but if you’re used to the Menu button taking you to the menu…
Second,
@scoolro again: there are supposed to be 2 CDs, one of them has the documentation, and the other one the maps. Guess you’re missing one, but then again, I bought mine in Romania, so it’s definitely the European version. I currently use a 4GB card, had no problems with it, and I just copied the files over, not with the CD that comes with the device, just copy-pasted from the old card.
Third,
does anyone have any idea where the speedcams settings are? I mean, how they can be activated, updated, and so on? I’m referring to Rob’s quote of “You can download information about Road Safety Cameras from the Internet”, but I can’t figure out how for the life of me.
Regards,
Khayman
June 21st, 2007 at 8:19 am
Hey Khayman thanks for the reply.
The North AMerican MYGUIDE 3050/3000 only comes with one cd which is only documents for the gps.
I hope someone knows how to succesfully copy and original North American SD card to a 2gb card and have it work properly.
If anyone knows please let us know. My 1GB card cannot accept update because card is full. Is there anyway to Copy original Files to a 2 GB card.
Steven
June 21st, 2007 at 9:56 am
Hey guys,
just got off the phone with the European MyGuide support desk, they said that the line about the road safety cameras is (as I understood it) more or less of no or little use, as you cannot add the cameras to your device…
Read smth on a German forum, though, going to try it later on today and give you a heads-up.
PS: @scoolro: Steve, I’m not really sure whether something’s wrong with your card, as I’ve had no trouble simply copying it. Then again, I’m not really sure whether my copy of the software is cracked, which would make it explainable, to some extent, that I managed to do it.
Regards,
Khayman
June 21st, 2007 at 11:18 am
I think it is because you have a 3000 Myguide which is European And I have the 3050 edition myguide and it is north american.
I wish I new how to crack the software to put in a bigger card to add more data and MP3 and Videos.
Also has anyone added a european map to the 3050 MyGuide.
Like always Many thanks for any info,
Steven
June 21st, 2007 at 12:39 pm
OK, I’m back.
The thing about the speed cams seems not to have worked, but I’ll work on it a bit longer before giving up hope.
@scoolro: Steven, as far as I’m aware, there is no hardware difference between the 3000, 3050, and/or 3060. MyGuide produced the 3000 series, which is the actual device. The last two digits, again, as far as I know, simply denote the map pack they come with (i.e., the 3060, which I have, is identical with the 3000. It’s just that the 3000 came with no maps, and the 3060 came with the Europe maps. The 3050 only comes with Romania maps.)
Back to the speedcams issue: as I stated earlier, I found a German forum in which a method is described in order to get them on your device: apparently you’re supposed to go on a certain POI site, download a file, then open that file with Google Earth and save it in a different format. Once you’ve done that, you have to move the files to the flash memory of your device, and the moment MyGuide has satellite signal, you’re supposed to be all set. Again, it didn’t seem to work for me, but I’m in Romania, and apparently there’s no speedcam database for Romania yet. The one I downloaded was for Germany, France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and so on. I could just browse the map, but I could see all POIs on it, and there aren’t any speedcams that I could notice. Will work on it, see if it brings anything.
Regards,
Khayman
June 21st, 2007 at 12:43 pm
Hi, my quote about speedcams is copied directly from the myguide Europe website. I’ve tried putting speedcams in all sorts of places, both on the sd card and on the flash disk but nothing seems to work.
You can add speed cameras, but only manually, one-by-one by by holding the stylus on the map! This also seems to create a speedcam folder. I also saw the German forum entry but my very rusty O level German from 20 odd years ago isn’t up to translating it!
If anyone works it out let us know as it would complete an already very good satnav system.
Cheers,
Rob

June 21st, 2007 at 10:58 pm
@Rob: hi Rob, yes, I saw it on their site, but I quoted from you because you were the only one on the forum who’d posted it. I know you can add them manually, I saw that, and that’s a nifty trick, but in some maps’ cases, you cannot possibly add about 1000 cameras by hand. I mean, you can, but who would?!
I’ll keep working on it, see what happens.
By the way, on the flash disk there was only a file called “speedcamupdates.spud”. After I put the *.kmz file on it, it seems to have created a new file altogether, so apparently there is SOME effect.

Khayman

Scoolro, I have the same problem with loading the 1gb to a 2 gb. I get a hardwareIDerror. Been looking at many, many, many (well you get the point) forums for three days now and cannot find anyone the has the US Maps version that has sucessfully used a larger card. I have the 1gb on two different MyGuide 3000Gl/3050 units. They CANNOT BE Transferred and its driving me nuts. tried several cracked maps and updates from PPC Warz forum. Hours of moving files around the two cards to not avail.
I can say that it is not a simple as copying the card from one card to the pc and then to the other larger card.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR A CRACK FROM SOMEONE. PLEASE HELP!!!!
June 23rd, 2007 at 8:08 am
Looks like this is a OCN6 TeleAtlas Device.nng fix. This stops Pirates from
copying the cards. but for people like us it screws us over. I cannot add POIs
because my card is full and MyGuide/AresDigtial.com is VERY SLOW OF UPDATES. Even if they send out updates I cannot see how (I or anyone else for that matter) can update because our darn(be nice) cards are full and we cannot change them out.
Someone should be able to crack this code.
copy this link and read all the posts. (now this is PPC but the out come is the same)
http://www.oncoursenavigator.com/forum/pr.aspx?f=10&m=5314
Q5: Can I copy OCN6 into anoter memory card / larger size card?
A5: No, OCN6 is preprogrammed to a memory card we shipped. If you try to copy the contents of OCN6 memory card to another card, you will get HardwareIDerror error message. However, we always encourage users to copy the content of the original card to a folder in their PC as a backup.

MyGuide 3000 came with no A/C adapter. Can someone tell me what the output specs are (e.g. 12V DC)?
Thanks.
June 23rd, 2007 at 4:57 pm
I have a V7 1000, and have no problem copying the SD card to another card. I have only tried with a 1GB card, but don’t see why it should not work with 2GB. I’m sure I read that the unit could use up to 4MB card.
PetoI – my V7 1000 came with AC adaptor rated DC 12 volts, 1 amp. It says “switching power supply”, and the centre pin of the connector is +ve.
June 23rd, 2007 at 6:03 pm
Thanks Dave, I hope I can find a 1Amp adapter, most of them seem to be around 300mA.
I have tried both the hotfix and full update, none of them worked, I get “Cannot start the update application. Error 0×000000c1″ when I turn the device on. I deleted some maps to make more room on the memory card, but to no effect. I wrote support, no answer yet.
June 24th, 2007 at 4:13 am
Hey guys,
Here a translation of the german forum postings. I tried it that way but it doesn´t work. The guy who wrote it to the german forum remark that it doesn´t work on every myguide 3000 (depends on free storge of the flashdisk…)
First of all you need a file with the speedcams. E.g. you have a .kml-file, you open it with google earth. “Save as” anyname.kmz. Copy the .kmz-file into the device “Flashdisk/Myguide/POI/Speedcam”. Delete the existing speedcam.spdb
and speedcamUpdates.spud file (Will be renewed). Restart the myguide. Wait for a sattelite fix. Now you should see the speedcams on the map.
Maybe it will work…
June 24th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
I recently attempted to run the new upgrade for my unit, for some reason the battery decided to die midway through the process of the update, now when i boot the unit it just shows the myguide screen and never loads any menu? Any ideas on a potential fix? I can’t get into the system at all!
Thanks
June 25th, 2007 at 9:10 am
Tye – have you tried to start it up again with the update SD card inserted?
I have seen from some prvious mails that tapping or pressing the screen when the unit is starting might get you into the Windows screen, but that is only useful if you have a backup of the internal FlashDisk, which can then be copied back into the unit from a SD card.

My myguide 1000 won’t read my 4gb sd card. It is a sdhc card, does it make a difference?
June 26th, 2007 at 11:31 am
Hey Tye,
Did you get your Gps working? Does the upgrade work for the 3050 MYGUIDE. Also still curious has anyone succfully copied the original SD 1GB files to a bigger SD card and have it work successfully?

scoolro:
I successfully copied the original 1 GB card contents to a 2 GB card. It worked fine. I then put movies (xvid encoded) on the 2 GB card and played them back.
I am in the middle of the upgrade process. (full upgrade). Man is it slow. It has been going for about 40 minutes already and it appears to be about 50% done copying the files to the flash. I have it plugged into my car. Luckily my car supplies power to the cig lighter constantly. I can definitely see how Tye’s battery died part way through the upgrade. I would have expected MyGuide to tell us that it would take an hour to do the upgrade in the upgrade document. That would at least give us an idea of what to expect.
Here’s hoping it finishes.
BTW, for others trying this – it takes a very long time to wipe the flash. There is no progress bar. it sits there looking like it is hung for at least 10 minutes. Just let it go. It eventually makes progress.
I will post back later today when / if it finishes.

I think the only way to get the europe map to work on the US version you have to copy the Flash Disk from a european version to the Myguide 1000. If anyone having a european model can email me the Flash Disk folder I can test it out.
Please email to girgises@yahoo.com and I will post results.
Thanks

Greg – so, did the upgrade work ??
How can it take so long to wipe and upgrade the flash disk – I thought it was only about 11 MB.

July 4th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
Rob, are you trying the Hotfix (on http://www.v7-world.com), which is just a small fix for the date/time display. I ran that one and it worked OK.
- or are you trying the full upgrade, which is on http://www.myguidegps.com – I would not recommend trying that until V7 have it on their website (unless we have some confirmation from someone that it works OK on the V7 1000)
July 4th, 2007 at 6:45 pm
Dave C.
I tried both…and both fail….
It keeps just errors out on the first boot up when trying to apply the hotfix or full upgrade.
I even tried running the file manualy with the same results. I wonder if thier is something wrong with the unit.
Even tired another SD card – same results.
Any ideas?
July 5th, 2007 at 2:58 pm
Rob,
For the Hotfix, did you first unzip the file that you downloaded (you should then have folder PNA, and files PNAUpdate.exe and pnaupdate.zip). These items should then be copied to the SD card. If you did that and it does not run, could be something wrong with your unit.
Just a final thought, what are you using to unzip the file? I was using Winzip 8.1 SR-1.

Hello people,
i have the European model (Greece) of MyGuide 3000, if find a cracked “myguide.exe” and a cracked “license.db”, so i tried to install them, cause i was frustrated for an updated map of Greece… but i forgot to back up my flash rom files, so i lost my original license.db. The program is working now with the updated map, but when i try to select another city it’s crashing.
Does anyone has the license.db for the European model ? can you please send it to h.aslanidis@gmail.com ?
Thanks in advance.
oh in my machine, the “M” button does not work at all :-) I will try to make the patch that you suggest.
July 8th, 2007 at 1:53 pm
I just got this answer from V7/Myguide. I Send this email:
Dear Sirs,
I just bought the V7 Navigation 1000 with European maps and I am very satisfied with the product.
I would like to know if the MyGuide 6.1 upgrade on : http://www.my-guide.de/en/pro.php?p=11&pv=8 is compatible with the V7 1000 as it is almost identical to the MyGuide 3000 system?
With kind regards
XXXX
And got this reply:
Dear Mr xxxxx,
please excuse the long answering time, it was not easy to find a certain and correct answer.
The update is compatible with the V7 and the MyGuide 3000. If you have additive questions feel free to contact us.
Sincerely
Mit freundlichen Grüßen
MyGuide-Service
———————————————
So it looks as if th V7 1000 can be patched with the MyGuide 6.1 patch without problems. I will try it sometime in August when I have returned from my vacation.

Hey everyone. So I just bought one of these V7 1000 systems here in Canada. On for $99 at Future Shop believe it or not! I do have a few qualms about the system, however, and want to know if anyone else has had the same problem? I got it in Regina, Saskatchewan and there were quite a few streets wrong on it. The places were right, but the names were way out to lunch! For example there was a 111th street, which there is nothing even close to that in Regina. And there are a whole bunch of street names that aren’t even in Regina, it sounds like someone just made them up. I traveled to another city today and it was the same thing there! Then I punched in my home address and followed it and ended up at an autobody shop about 3 blocks from my house… I am pretty shocked at how inaccurate it was today. Has this happened to anyone else?
July 10th, 2007 at 7:09 am
Hey Dave why cant i play my mp3s in the navigation. I have them downloaded on my SD card but it wont still play. it will only play the sample music.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:15 pm
There are at least 2 flavor of myguide 3050 sold in the US.
The older kind circa late 2006 runs an older version of MyGuide that is keyed to the specific sd card that is delivered with the device. It will not work if you copy the content to a different SD card. It is a huge pain in the ass because the 1GB card that comes with it has barely any space left.
I also played with a recent copy of the device that come with MyGuide 6.0 and is upgradeable to 6.1. The main difference from the surface is that the software is no longer tied to the factory SD card. You can assemble the software and the map to a big SD card and run off it, leaving some space for your media files. The map, although of the same version(2005.10), are not the same files. The file sizes are slightly different.
There are also a few differences under the skin, the old device’s OS is missing a lot of dlls to run third party software, e.g. TOMTOM. The new device runs TOMTOM just fine.
July 13th, 2007 at 10:57 am
Myguide3050,
What version of TomTom did you use and how did you get it to work? Can you explain for all of us?
Cheers
July 20th, 2007 at 10:20 am
I believe my operating system on it has crashed. Does anyone know where tog et it. I thought at 1st it was the battery too weak to run it. I had purchased a new one and stil the same thing. The blue lights on the buttons come on but no screen, any suggestions.
July 21st, 2007 at 10:28 am
Brad – what do you mean exactly when you say you purchased a new battery. Did you change the internal rechargeable battery in the unit ??
Have you tried turning it on with the charger/ac adaptor connected (or plugged into a car cigarette lighter) ?
If you have nothing at all on the screen I’m afraid there’s not much you can do, except return it for warranty repair.
July 24th, 2007 at 6:55 am
Has anyone seen or heard of any updates to the Canadian maps?
Is there a good reason to update a V7 1000 with the 6.1 software?
July 26th, 2007 at 3:30 pm
Has anyone seen the map upgrade on the V7 site. They want you to ship the whole GPS unit to California so they can put a new 2GB card in it with the updated maps. And if you bought the unit before May 2007 you have to pay $99 + shipping. This seems totally ridiculous. I have never seen another GPS manufacturer ask you to send the whole unit to them for a map update. I can see asking you to send back your original 1GB card before sending the new 2GB, but this is ridiculous.
July 27th, 2007 at 7:57 am
Ron – I agree, that sounds ridiculous. I bet they are changing some software in the GPS (e.g. license file) to prevent someone copying the new maps and distributing them on the internet.
I am in Canada and bought my unit in February for $250. Now they want US$99 + shipping to upgrade, which would probably be about $120 total for me – almost half the price that I paid !!
July 27th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
Hey all. If anyone finds an alternative to sending the device away to get up to date Canada Maps, please post it. I’m sure we’re all getting very frustrated with the very out of date Canada Maps.
July 29th, 2007 at 6:48 pm
Has anyone found out if “pocket PC” games or other games will work on this? I want to play some games on long trips when I’m not the one driving!
I just bought mine and now I have to send the whole thing to them for upgrade? I think I’m going to copy all original files first so I have copies and try to re-install them after they send it back just to see what happens.
July 30th, 2007 at 4:45 am
V7 has a PDF under the US verison that tell how to upgrade the maps in a nutshell you have to send them the orig. Sim 1 gig card and they will send you a new 2 gig sim back with the maps. Here is the catch! Free for customers who have purchased the unit between May 7th and Sept 7th, 2007; this
offer must be redeemed by October 31st, 2007 (proof of purchase is required) And you must send in the unit? I think they are doing a software upgrade also! Just want to tell sny one who would like to know….
July 30th, 2007 at 10:29 am
Brad try turning on your GPS and then while it is on remove the SD card and reinsert it. If it starts up properly it means you have removed your boot sequence from the SD card.
July 30th, 2007 at 10:33 am
Dave – the GPS only supports upto 2gig SD cards. 4 Gig won’t work
July 30th, 2007 at 10:37 am
For all those that have a problem with the ‘M’ button a do this fix http://www.instructables.com/id/EWU70X9AWMEXCFHT1C/
Also has a fix for other things. Works great.
For the time problem download the new firmware from V7 site.

Hi, guys. I tried to make a full software upgrade (6.01) to an MyGuide 3000 series, but I received an error message type “Failed to open file:ctype.dat, exiting application”and I can no longer use the GPS in any way. I’ve seen that there were previously some similar cases and I wanted you to help me to solve the situation. I ‘ve made previously a backup on my hard disk with all the content of the SD card, copied them again on Sd after the upgrade failed and again and again the same message “Failed to open file: ctype.dat, exiting application (FortunaODMKeyDoor1119)”. The backed up directory “Flash disk”from the Sd to the the hard drive has 6.02Mb.(data.zip on the Flash Disk root has 198 Kb and on the Flash Disk/MyGuide/Data.zip has 1,319 Kb. Is this correct? What should I do?
Thank you very much!!
August 4th, 2007 at 1:51 am
If the data.zip file is corrupted, please mail me a correct one at jorjesco@hotmail.com. Thank you once again!!

Steen,
I bought mine in February 2007, and it has the same part number, so I guess the one you have is not too old.
August 15th, 2007 at 11:10 am
Hi, maybe someone here can help. I have one of these that i bought in january. It has worked flawlessly up until a few days ago when all of a sudden whenever i tap the navigate button it gives me a FATAL ERROR cannot initialize databse.
I’ve searched high and low, but cannot seem to find any answers. I’ve called tech support but all i can do is leave a message. if somoene has any information at all or a way to maybe restore this thing I would love to hear it. everything else works except the navigate screen.

Thanks Dave
I em sorry because i wasent clear in my questions – about age – its because wenn I open up it says – wednesday, January 1. 2003 – It seems too that the cards are at least 4 years old ???
I would like to geth the up to date cards – I have scandinavian and europa cards -
Anyway it works fine – I have just been on a 3 days vacation in the old east germany – and it works perfect in towns and small roads – but its a pitty that man allways haft to reset the date and time – i dont know if thats the couse when it takes up to 10 minutes to find the satelites.
Steen
August 17th, 2007 at 7:05 am
Hi Steen,
When the unit receives the satellite signal it will automatically set the date and time. If your unit is taking a long time to find the satellites, then the signal must be weak for some reason.
You could try using an external antenna. You can buy MMCX antenna here for CDN$20 with free shipping:
http://www.gpspeople.ca/
I have one in my car mounted under the dashboard and it works great.
August 19th, 2007 at 1:15 pm
Thanks again Dave
It may be a good ide for me too geth an extern antenna- it could prowide a better communications – the problem may be that my car have a heatresisten windschiel og maybe the satelites may not have discovert this part of denmark – well the last its only fun.
I have heard that the unit kan be supplied with an USB device ther will easy the installation of updated maps – have you any knowledge hav that can be done ?
Thanks for your responce
August 19th, 2007 at 2:16 pm
Hi Steen, Here is the link that shows you how to connect a USB cable to the unit:
http://www.technofumbles.com/weblog/2007/01/hacking-v7-navigation-1000-gps.html
(- But I do not think it can help with the installation of updated maps as the maps are only on the SD card.)
Yes, I’m sure your heated windshield would cause a problem.
So you are in Denmark – I have been there a few times as I worked for Bruel & Kjaer (in Canada)

I just bought a V7 as a clearance item but it came with no software. Can someone send me a copy of the original software so i can get the gps working. jm777s@hotmail.com Thanks a ton .
August 20th, 2007 at 12:43 pm
Hi there.
Just bought one of these V7 1000 units at the CNE for CAD175.
Works just as everyone has noted, slow start up, very slow to find GPS signal, “M” button just looks pretty, 1GB SD CARD quality sucks.
Applying the ‘fixes’ gets the “M” button to work, and copying the SD card data to HDD, then to larger(2GB – CAD22.95) SD card works seemlessly and seems to resolve the power-on-eject-insert-SDcard issue.
The unit’s not difficult to play with as far as the USB port modification’s concerned(haven’t done it yet), and adding access to Explorer couldn’t be easier(more so than with the MIO c210).
Haven’t tried the fix/patch for the Clock issue yet, that’s next. Battery seems to only last about a solid hour of play before I get nervous and reach for the INCLUDED AC adapter.
Has anyone tried the external MMCX antenna or the TMC tuner options?
I am a bit upset that I need to mail (international) the entire unit & card to get an (map)update that’s only supposed to be a card thing. This seems rather silly and a complete waste of my money.
Has anyone attempted this and spoke about the ridiculous process with their agents on the phone?
Well, off to play a little more…
August 20th, 2007 at 2:13 pm
To get Canada.FBL just google canada.fbl, and you should be able to find it.
That’s what I did to get a copy. I also installed the latest operating system and it worked fine.
August 20th, 2007 at 2:14 pm
Ok… so i applied this “fix” for the time issue. It basically gets rid of the clock on the display and sets the unit to wait for a GPS time sync (takes a couple minutes to synchronize after GPS signal found).
However, in applying the fix, the keyboard “M” button issue is reverted back to non-functional, and the fly-over speed is reset (i had applied both these ‘fixes’ prior to the V7 patch/fix). Thus I had to re-do all these changes to the files in the Flash directory… as well, my background images were reverted back to myguide default images.
Strangely tho, when trying to copy the zip file from \Flash Disk\MyGuide\ , the unit came up with an error 36 code. Luckily I made a copy of the flash disk contents prior to the hotfix and simply copied it back to my unit.
The adventure continues…
August 20th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
Ok… with the soft-keyboard that comes up.. it’s a German keyboard layout… most notibly the Y and Z keys are swapped. How can we fix this?
Anyone else notice?
August 20th, 2007 at 10:50 pm
Thanks for the tip Converd. I have tried a 50.9 and 90.6 canada.flb files. I might be loading them wrong?? I’m just coping them to a blank SD card and putting it in the V7 while it’s off. I get no GPS opion on the screen. It might just be the files I downloaded were no good. Can anyone help?

August 21st, 2007 at 5:10 am
Michael, you also need to copy the system files and GPS navigation program files from the original SD card over to the new one.
August 21st, 2007 at 1:32 pm
I tried to contact the v7-world to get the map update service . but no one picks up the phone it goes to voice mail all the time and i left numerous voice mails and no one responded
August 21st, 2007 at 8:49 pm
Tuzi, I don’t have a copy of the sytem file or GPS navigator program. Where can I find this? I was told by the saleman that I should have no problem geting maps for the unit I bought since it came with nothing. I guess the salesman needs to do some research.
August 22nd, 2007 at 10:59 am
Me too, I left some voice mails and no return.
I’ve send email and Anthony referred me to the pdf.
I just want the address!!!
August 23rd, 2007 at 4:06 pm
Michael,
The GPS nav program, maps, and system files for the unit are included on the 1GB SD card the unit is typically sold with. If you don’t have those, I think you’ll have to try your luck with the folk(s) at V7… but like the others say, I too have called and only left with an option to leave voice mail.
August 23rd, 2007 at 11:53 pm
I just updated my V7 PMD 1000 with the files from http://www.myguidegps.com ( http://www.my-guide.de/en/pro.php?p=11&pv=8 ) and it works without problems.
The menu button now shows route information when pressed.
August 24th, 2007 at 6:55 am
Is the map update offer ( free for units purchased recently) open to Canadian owners or do I have to use a US address.
Has anyone actually completed the shipment to and from the US and received updated data?
Wes
August 25th, 2007 at 1:53 pm
>Has anyone actually completed the shipment to and from the US and received updated data?
Hum, is someone “brave” enough to send his unit all the way to California just for an update… without even knowing if the new maps are really fixing basic mistake! (like the missing bridge between hawkesbury and Greenville ) I know that I will not paid for the update nor paid for the cost of shipment.
Unless they change their policy regarding maps update, I will simply say that I’m very disapointed with My Guide product!
I cannot beleived that they ask you to fill the form on the web to help them fix their mistake and then try to charge you to correct BASIC mistake!
If it was for an update due to new road, ok but basic mistake from their part is not acceptable.

Did you mean you update your myguide 1000 with this file
MyGuide3000_070607_R3_FullUpgrade
this one is not only for myguide 3000????
please say more
August 26th, 2007 at 7:06 am
Erik. What was the file you used to update your V7 1000? Was it MyGuide3000_070607_R3_FullUpgrade?
August 26th, 2007 at 8:21 am
Yes, I used the MyGuide3000_070607_R3_FullUpgrade from http://www.myguidegps.com. The V7 PMD 1000 and the V7 PMD 1400 are identical to the MyGuide 3000 system.
MyGuide support told med the update would work on the V7 PMD 1000, and it does.
August 26th, 2007 at 8:22 am
There has got to be somebody who bought their device within the time frame that makes it free for the map upgrade. I would have to pay the 90 dollars plus shipping for a simple map upgrade, not something I am willing to do. What a joke this company is. We just need an updated canada.fbl file to replace the old one, simple. Hopefully there are no license issues if we ever do get the updated map. So if anybody has actually got this service done, please share the wealth and post the updated Canadian map. I would be glad to host the file for whomever posts it.
August 26th, 2007 at 7:59 pm
Used the update Myguide3000_070607_R3FullUpgrade works fine. Downloaded 90 mb Canada map, failes on a supplied 1GB card, Copied to a 2GB Sd card, works fine. Didn’t not notice much difference in the 90mb canada file.
August 26th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
Hey Tim
Do I just download the “full upgrade” and write to a fresh 2 gig SD card and that will do it. Or is there data on the existing 1 gig card that needs to be transfered to the 2 gig card? I’m new to this stuff so forgive me if I seem a little dumb.
August 26th, 2007 at 10:26 pm
I copied the 1 Gig Card to a folder on my computer, copyied it to the new 2 Gig card, copied the files for the full update to the 2 gig card and ran it when the GPS started up. When finished , deleted the 4 files or so from the upgrade. Have done this twice so far, neighbour liked mine so much, he got one. 179 CAD
August 27th, 2007 at 6:20 am
Tim – Thanks for the prompt comeback. I assume that the existing 1 GB card has some data that is not in the upgrade, is that right? When you say that you “deleted the 4 files or so from the upgrade” was that deletion made from your computer or from the 2 GB card??
If I mailed a new 2 GB card to you could you do the upgrade for me. I would be happy to pay shipping and handling. I paid the same amount as your neighbour for mine and so far the unit seems fine. Cannot get any response from V7 to either phone or e-mail.
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.
August 27th, 2007 at 7:07 am
Tim – Further exploration of the MyGuide site unearthed the following Upgrade Documentation My_Guide_3000_EN.pdf. I down loaded this file and it is a three page step by step procedure for installing the upgrade. It says that you must use the existing SD card because the data of the navigation software must be present on the SD card for the execution of the Upgrade. Therefore the transfer of the old data to the new 2GB card is necessary. In addition writing the existing SD card to the computer saves all the data required in the event that the first cut at the upgrade fails. I’m off the buy a new 2GB card.
August 27th, 2007 at 8:35 am
The Upgrade for the MyGuide 3000 does not update any of the maps. It only updates the software on which the V7 operates. This does work just fine but the enhancements are minimal and if you like the M button to go to the menu, you will have to make that change again after the update. The new maps are still needed! Anyone have them?
August 27th, 2007 at 9:13 am
Guys,
As I wrote on the 20th of Aug., did anyone else get the same error message
after installing the upgrade/fix?
When trying to copy the ZIP files from the FLASH directory on the unit, it fails. This was previously possible prior to upgrading.
Thus if you didn’t copy the files previously, you cannot apply the “hacks” to the unit without retrofitting the unit with a USB port.
Anyone else notice?
August 27th, 2007 at 10:57 am
I just call V7 and they answered within sec. but I can’t find my slip and they do need it so here I go looking for it!!!
August 27th, 2007 at 12:33 pm
Inspired by Dot, I called V7 and a human answered the phone. Very pleasant and polite gentleman named Anthony. He promised to email all the necessary data to me to enable the return of my unit for free update. In the mean time I have bought a 2 GB SD card and ordered a SD card reader/writer on ebay.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
Does anyone have different license files instead of North America. I’m planning on moving to Australia and was wondering if multiple licenses would work. The ABOUT shows lots of room for licenses but I can’t find anything that would work.
August 28th, 2007 at 11:32 am
Anthony give me all the info. My unit is sent by ups. I will give you news as soon as possible.
August 28th, 2007 at 12:13 pm
How much did it cost you to ship it David?
August 28th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
T. Morris
I duplicated the original card onto the new 2 gig card, then did the upgrades. After the upgrade I deleted the 4 files in the mail directory from the upgrade on the card. I keep a backup of the card on my laptop in case of emergency. I also have been adding quite a few POI’s from the net and back up the data on the card every so often.
August 29th, 2007 at 7:44 am
I just spoke with Anthony today. I sent my GPS device on Aug 13 they’ve got it on 18th and just yesterday the technician has upgraded it. It will be shipped to me next week. It took them 10 days for upgrading – unbelievable.
Anyway I’ll post more info once it arrive back home.
August 29th, 2007 at 8:29 am
Anyone had any luck putting speed camera locations on the device? I managed to upgrade to 6.1 without problems.
August 29th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
Blizalka,
Can you believe that a company like this has such poor customer service and would take such a long time to do a simple upgrade? I think that this company has taken advantage of its customers.

To those of you that have sent your unit in for the free upgrade, it would be incredibly appreciated if you could post the new canada.fbl map once you get the unit back!
please let us know if this is possible!

It will take more than the .fbl file, it’s gonna take also the licence.db file

i just bought the v7 last month and i just did the update to 6.1 everything seems to work fine for me…
the only problem im having is that the simulation takes forever to finish
is there a way to speed up the simulation?
September 6th, 2007 at 8:58 am
Purchased this unit last weekend at the EX for $175CDN. Exhibits most of the common faults addressed in this web-site. I successfully loaded the 6.1 firmware update onto a new Sandisk SD card, after transfering the files from the original SD card, without any issues. Like everyone else, I am anxious to get a copy of the latest Canada map. I’ve read this entire post and am surprised nobody has noticed, or at least reported, that one way streets are not recognized by this unit, at least not in Toronto. On a few occasions, the unit instructed me to make an illegal turn onto a one way street. I had a built-in unit in a 1998 BMW and it recognized one way streets. I would expect a newer generation unit such as this to have the same capability.

Here’s a link to the 90 Mb Canada.fbl map. I haven’t tested it yet so proceed at your own risk. I will re-name it Canada2.fbl prior to installation.

Do you know if Mio maps are compatible? if so, look at this link.
http://www.bittorrent.am/torrent/1281038/2/184/igo_miomap_2007_all_word_maps_(igo_mio_map_pocket__pna_ppc_windows_mobile).html
September 7th, 2007 at 7:18 am
Don’t know if the MIO maps will work but I did load the one mentioned in my post above and it seems to work just fine. Not sure if it’s my imagination but it seems to be a little slower in recalculating the route once you’re off track, perhaps due to the larger file size. Anyway, I’m still disapointed that one way streets are not recognized even in this latest version.
September 7th, 2007 at 8:00 pm
Anyone got there unit back from the US yet? How is it working?
September 7th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
I have a V7 as well…still trying to find out if MyGuide can be replaced by something else… (iGO or MioNav) since they have newer maps.
September 8th, 2007 at 12:20 am
I talked to Anthony today and he sent me information on how to ship the V7 back for the upgrade but there were some major differences from what the pdf instruction on their website says.
The first difference was the price. It said it costs $129 to upgrade.
It also says that I need an RMA before I can send it in but after when he emailed the info to me, he did not include the RMA #.
Here is a quote from the MS Word file he sent me.
(Note the difference in what it says you get for the free update in ‘4d’)
**********************************************************
This outlines the procedures for installation of map updates. Based on agreements in place with TeleAtlas, we are only able to do this work in house. i.e. we cannot sell a CD or allow a download. Accordingly, this is the procedure for maps for USA & Canada:
1) Map dates: latest is 2006.10, released in January 2007. Map settings on the device will reflect 2007.1 dates.
2) It is not assured that with these updates previously ‘not found’ addresses will be found. It is highly recommended that potential update customers verify any particular address by visiting the TeleAtlas URL: http://mapfeedback.teleatlas.com/index.htm
3) If after this search customers wish to update the maps, there is a fee involved of $ 129 for the update. This update can only be done on our premises in California based on our technology and TeleAtlas contract.
4) With this fee, Ares will
a. Update the firmware
b. Update the maps for North America and supply you with Premium Maps (4 million points of Interest – POIs) on a 2 GB SD card
c. Pay the return postage to the customer.
d. Where customers bought this device between June 7 – September 7, 2007 please contact support@aresdigital.com (Last date of purchase is 7th September 2007) Standard maps and POI data are free; Additional POIs with premium map data will cost $ 129
September 8th, 2007 at 12:42 pm
$99 vs $129
8 million POI vs 4 million POI
I think they don’t want customers

I’ve somehow wiped out my flash disk. Is there any way to get a copy of this.
tallguy07 tallguy07@hotmail.com
September 8th, 2007 at 2:15 pm
Hi Tallguy07,
Flash disk content for North American V7 1000 here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/26968303/FlashDisk.zip
September 8th, 2007 at 4:53 pm
Thanks Dave,
I owe you a beer…
September 8th, 2007 at 5:36 pm
Dave C.
How do you install the updates?
September 8th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
Richard,
That rapidshare file is not an update – it’s just a copy of the original flash disk. (i.e. the flash memory inside the V7)
September 8th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
I copied IGO 2006 on the SD card, made the necessary changes in the sys.txt, I started the application and it seemed it was loading, I even got to the nice blue IGO wallpaper but then I got the Hardware error message. This is somewhat of a progess, considering that I couldn’t start Miomap at all. So it can be done…we just need the right software.
September 8th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
pS: If you mess up your flashdisk folder (like I did, several times), the easiest way to repair it is to actually install the My Guide 3000 update (MyGuide3000_070607_R3_FullUpgrade.zip). After installing it, the unit should work as before.
September 9th, 2007 at 5:50 pm
how do i add POI in the unit? like can i use a software to edit the POI’s?
September 9th, 2007 at 6:49 pm
umm when i turn min on at the main menu screen i only have multimedia and settings

September 9th, 2007 at 7:34 pm

or for some reason u guys cant email me it cuz maybe its to big to trasfer i guess i will just have to contact the the makers and see what they say
September 10th, 2007 at 5:51 am
Stef,
This should give you the files needed for the SD card, and includes the Canada map (but no US maps).
http://rapidshare.com/files/42509449/V7_SD.zip
Unzip to a folder, and then copy to your SD card.
September 10th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
ok, I have created an online forum (bulletin board) especially for this unit. There are too many posts here that need to be threaded. Please feel free to access it @ http://67.55.12.54
It is a local server so it might be offline at times. Enjoy!
September 11th, 2007 at 6:57 am
Eddie,
I have tried to register on your forum, but no matter what I try for a user name I get message :
Username out of [A-Z] and [0-9] !
September 11th, 2007 at 1:45 pm
do u know what kind of games i can put on the system or maybe even where can i find games for it
September 11th, 2007 at 5:51 pm
For Dave: I’m not sure what went wrong in your case. I registered myself as a regular user and it worked. It is an old server software, but it’s solid. Try to register using this format: usernamenumber (eg. dave1977). Anyways, if still doesn’t work I can create one for you. Please let me know. As well, you can visit the forum without registering (just click on “Visitor” on the main login page) It’s weird…it appears several users have registered so far, but no one posted anything yet.
Eddie
September 11th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Hi Eddie,
After some experimenting, I managed to register.
It seems that the username will not accept upper case letters??
Could not register Dave2007, but dave2007 worked!!
September 12th, 2007 at 5:40 am
Well heres another issue…
I thought I would take my unit on a trip from Toronto to Detroit….It looks like the Myguide cannot deal with borders. What is about a 400 KM drive showed about 1200 KMS!
Mapping within the same country (Canada or US) seems to work but I could not get the unit to work correctly for a US address when leaving from Canada.
Thank God I knew were I was going! Kinda defeats the purpose of a GPS!
September 12th, 2007 at 10:40 am
there’s someone else block for abuse by at&t when you write to v7?
It appeared that i’m blocked after three e mail from the same adresse.
September 12th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
I have had the unit since Boxing day, 06. Like it, but it does have some problems. I hope we can find a way to get the new maps.
That said, i have the same problem with the unit re: borders. I was driving from Ontario to the east coast. The unit kept saying that it couldn’t find a route. Finally, while 1/2 way there, i realized it couldn’t find the Quebec/nb border.
September 12th, 2007 at 5:09 pm
Tried to do the menu fix, I cannot find the data.zip file?
September 12th, 2007 at 6:15 pm
Figured it out, must install ce hack first.
September 12th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
It seems they pieced the maps together and some borders don’t connect properly. I just put a via point on one side of the border and then another on the other side… then destination. It won’t be able to calculate the trip because it will travel to the first via point and then head off (usually in opposite direction) to find another route. Just wait for the 5 – 10 mins as you cross the border and it will find the right route to the end from the second via point.
NB – NS Border (#2 can’t cross border)
NB – PEI (Confederation bridge)
No problems with borders in West that I saw.
September 13th, 2007 at 9:45 am
Thx..I’ll try the “route via” point next time.
September 13th, 2007 at 11:26 am
I just sent my unit to V7 yesterday for the update
I will post the outcome of the update when my unit arrives.
I will also post the contents of the flash disk and the sd card on demonoid so that others can take advantage of this upgrade with out sending their unit to V7
I noticed that this unit is a clone of the V7 PMD 1400
does anyone know if this unit will accept sdhc cards? I would like to put a 4gb or 8gb card into it so I can store more apps and media. has anyone tried a card larger than 2GB?
September 14th, 2007 at 8:39 am
cyberdemon,
Don’t expect to get your unit back in a week. I sent mine on Aug 13 and still haven’t got it back. It is more then a mount.
September 14th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
More info please…. Your topic about yGuide 1000 — NaviGadget needs more comments. I\’d like to spend me Saturday nights reading about motorola pst download
September 15th, 2007 at 11:44 am
Thanks cyberdemon. It will be nice to see if this will work or if we will need updated license files, which you may be able to pull off of the flash drive perhaps. I’m looking forward to your post.
September 16th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
If you are having problems navigating across a border, make sure that you haven’t removed toll roads from your preferences. I couldn’t navigate across the Niagara River until I enabled this.
However, I doubt that this explains all of the border navigation problems that were mentioned recently.
September 17th, 2007 at 9:43 am
There is a new forum @ v7.freeforums.org
This is the only forum dedicated to the V7
As many of you have found out searching the web for information on the V7 can be daunting. This forum helps put everything about the V7 together, saving you hours of searching for relevant Information.
This forum will put all of us V7 owners together so we can better assist each other.
Stop by and take a look.
September 17th, 2007 at 6:18 pm

September 17th, 2007 at 6:21 pm
help :( …….. for some reason MyGuide stop working.
the error message is
Filed to open file:
ctype.dat
exiting application.
Just curious if anyone managed to fix the ctype.dat file.
September 17th, 2007 at 7:47 pm
Scoolro,
You could try rewriting the flash disk contents.
(maybe you accidentaly changed something ?)
See my mail above from 8 Sept for the location of the Rapidshare file.
September 17th, 2007 at 7:49 pm
Scoolro,
Or even easier, run the 6.1 Myguide full upgrade
September 18th, 2007 at 6:39 am
Confirm. I’ve managed to screw it up by trying to install iGo on it, but (re)upgrade to 6.1 has fixed it.
September 18th, 2007 at 10:54 am
V7 sent for free map update and system update. Mailed from Brampton on 31 August – updated and tested unit received today- 18 September.
Unit works fine – very short trial confirms that the maps are changed and improved. All in all I am very pleased.
Thank you Anthony W
September 18th, 2007 at 12:55 pm
I am not sure what I did exactly but I managed to make Explorer work on GPS. I think I added data.zip on the Unit flash disk folder not SD flash disk folder.
Any ways I am only gettinf start up screen and that it. no error messages or icons.

September 20th, 2007 at 1:37 am
For what is using the MyGuide3000_070202_Hotfix_200701 ? To do a reset?
September 20th, 2007 at 8:19 am
what is the use of MyGuide3000_070202_Hotfix_200701 ? To do a reset?
How do a reset of V7?
September 21st, 2007 at 12:17 am
cyberdemon, I’m using a 4GB non SDHC card, and it works fine. I’m thinking the V7 is not SDHC compatible.
September 22nd, 2007 at 1:11 am
T. Morris, would you be able to upload the updated SD card?
September 22nd, 2007 at 1:08 pm
I Just received my unit today. I have to say that I am pleased with the turn around time with V7 and there support was quite good in my experience.
That said…
The V7 has been updated to MyGuide Navigator 6.1 dated Mar 8 2007
the Maps on the other hand are all 2006.10 [061222]
File sizes of USA_Alaska.fbl (where I live)
Before upgrade… 5.8MB
After Upgrade…4.6MB
the 2007 Igo Maps… 7.0MB
I think they may have actually downgraded my maps of Alaska.
I also placed the old MyGuide software onto the SD card. When loading it reports “HardwareIDchanged” and exits after only providing an OK option.
In my opinion V7 has not completely upgraded my unit as there are more current maps that exist for the myguide software
I have installed iGO on my unit using the instructions found at v7.freeforums.org and am currently using this software, not the upgraded software.
I was going to upload the upgraded files for others to use however I think they would be wasting there time. I will upload them anyway if someone requests it but have to recommend the iGO software with the 2007 maps
I also have purchased a 4GB TopRam 150X SD card (non SDHC) card from ebay and it works perfectly.
September 22nd, 2007 at 1:38 pm
please upload cyberdemon…
at least we’ll have a look
thanks
September 23rd, 2007 at 4:51 pm
T.Morris, what’s the size of your canada map?
September 24th, 2007 at 6:12 pm
The V7 update files can be found on V7.freeforums.org. No sense in waisting your time with the update though. Newer maps are available and the iGO software looks exactly like MyGuide’s. However, there is even a newer version of iGO but I can’t seem to get it working just yet. KUP
September 25th, 2007 at 10:52 am
Turns out the free update includes a dumbed down version of the 2006 maps on their original 1GB SD card. The people that had to pay for it get more up to date maps and a 2GB SD card. I guess all I got was an OS upgrade.
I’m not sure if the maps are the same but Anthony said the new “premium” maps are 2006 maps released in 2007 and have 8 million POI’s
He also said that if I sent him a 2GB SD he would put those maps on it.
I am not sure if there will be a cost associated with this but have sent an email.
Will let you all know.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
I sent my unit back to V7 on Aug 14th and have not yet received it back. I’ll try to contact them and hunt down my tracking number to make sure they even got it.
September 25th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
Kely,
Be patient. I sent my unit on Aug 13 and got it back yseterday. I’m totaly disappointed from this update and from the customer service they provided to me… Do not recommend this upgrade to anybody.
It is not upgrade but downgrade. Canadian map is smaller then the old one with 8 MB. 8million POI is a bullshit and got buck my old 1GB SD card not the promissed one – 2GB. Last thing – I setn my device in the original box and received bach in lousy box full with plastic bubbles.
I’m about to send a e-mail to their central office in Europe regarding this issue.
September 25th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
I just got my gps on monday and i need a little well maybe alot of help if anyone can please. When i turn mine on i get to navigation and it gives me an initialization error: loadvoice failed it won’t even start to navigate what’s the deal??

Tried calling and still will ummmm…… question is where can i get my answers first?? PLease and thank you anyone
LOVE the site sooo helpful
September 26th, 2007 at 10:10 am
Hey guys,
after hacking my system, I’m getting ‘Failed to open file: , exiting application.’ from MyGuide Launcher. Anyone ran into this? And is there a fix?
September 26th, 2007 at 2:34 pm
Hi Girl,
Do you have the DVD the unit comes with ? If you have a SD card reader with your computer you can recreate all the required files on the SD card. The original SD card supplied with some of the V7 units were bad, so it would be good to use a different SD card.
Hi Stevo – as mentioned a few times before, the best thing to do is to run the Myguide 6.1 full upgrade.
http://www.my-guide.de/en/pro.php?p=11&pv=8
It’s really quite easy – just make sure the unit is plugged in to a power source when you do the upgrade – you don’t want the battery to die part way through.
September 26th, 2007 at 4:35 pm
Ok, so I am currently debating on purchasing eithier the MYGUIDE v7 1000 or the TOMTOM one. I am looking for an inexpensive GPS for my vehicle.
I was comparing both when I relized the Tomtom one does not tell you the address or phone number of a certain POI. For example if you where to select “hotels” in the POI list it would not give you the address or the phone number of the hotel you are considering.
Can anyone tell me if the Myguide v7 1000 will produce that information or not?
thanks!
September 27th, 2007 at 8:02 am
yes it does adress with phone number
September 27th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
Question
Can someone look up the amount of free space on the flash disk. I’ve changed the configuration with a bad upgrade. It didn’t work. Now I’m trying to piece things back together but it seems I’ve run out of disk space. Lots of room on SD card. I get an error about no voice file found on flash directory.
Thanks
September 27th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Oops. Voice file not found!
September 30th, 2007 at 4:35 pm
Looking for updated canadian maps. There are new developments in Brampton and Mississauga (Canada) which are on perlies 2006 editin but which are not on the present maps included in the unit I bought december ‘06 boxing day at Future Shop.
Kindly advise.
Thanks!
October 1st, 2007 at 6:46 am
Reynaldo – I know the Mississauga maps are quite old. My son lives there, and his house is 9 years old, and is not on my V7, which I bought early this year. The only official way to get new maps on it is to send it for the $100 upgrade.
Check out the website v7.freeforums.org/
I have followed the instructions on there to run iGO software from the SD card, and it works with the latest Canada map. (they have the links to download the maps and software).
October 2nd, 2007 at 8:28 pm
Dave
Yes i did get the dvd but no card reader. I’m not really good at this loading maps thing i’m a newbie to it. I called the number you supplied and they said to just ship it and they’ll fix my problem and load my maps.
Question is should i send it out knowing they don’t have great canadian maps?? cause i live in the toronto area as well……will i have to pay for the upgraded one like u metioned?? Hope not i wouldn’t want to have to wait all that time just for disappointment. Guess i’ll have to ask thanks for your help
October 3rd, 2007 at 3:07 am
Thank you David for the info! My batteries are actually “toasted” as it only lasts a few minutes if left unplug – even after charging it with the ac adapter for a few hours. Just waiting for instructions on how to send it back. I will request that they update the maps as well. Let’s see. Then Perhaps I can send the updated maps for those who needs them – just for a song! Thanks again for the info Dave!

2Gig SD for MyGuide
Some how I manage to use 2Gig SD on my MyGuide 3000.
I don’t have a sound no my unit just scrachy noize, and I mess around with it a lot to find out why. No lack (prabobly hardware problem).
Any way I copy contents of flash disk to 2Gig sd card and copy contents of 1Gig sd too. and it worked.
October 9th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
Hi Dave,
where can i download the new software for v7 1000?
October 9th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
Hi Li,
You can upgrade the Myguide software in the V7 1000 from version 6.0 to 6.1
http://www.my-guide.de/en/pro.php?p=11&pv=8
(The Myguide 3000 is the same unit)
But this won’t let you run the latest maps.
Check out the website v7.freeforums.org/
October 10th, 2007 at 4:47 pm
Hi there, just bought the unit v71000, great price $170.00 Ebay special. I was wondering where to get the updated maps, atleast for Canada.
Thanks Darryl
October 12th, 2007 at 5:09 pm
Darryl,
The only official way to get the V7 to run the latest maps is to send it to V7 in the U.S. for upgrade (about $100).
Go here v7.freeforums.org/ and read how to get iGO software running on the unit, and then you can run the latest maps.
October 14th, 2007 at 5:30 am
hey can anyone please email me the xmp3 files pyara9@hotmail.com thanx in advance :)
October 15th, 2007 at 12:59 pm

KK – download the flashdisk contents from here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/26968303/FlashDisk.zip
Unzip the file to a folder on your PC, and then copy it to your SD card. You should then be able to copy (replace) the flashdisk files on the V7.
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:17 pm

i did use 2 site this 1 and v7 site to search for help, i believes some peoples in this forum do exact same.
October 24th, 2007 at 3:46 pm
KK – exactly what happens when you select a file on the flash disk, and then select ‘delete’ from the file menu ? Do you get any error message ?
See picture here http://pages.infinit.net/deforest/V7.jpg
When you select ‘delete’ then it asks ‘are you sure?’ , then you select ‘yes’ – what happens then ? Does it just freeze ?
October 24th, 2007 at 4:17 pm
yes it freeze no error show.
when i delete or copy from sd to sd no problem.
i’m thinking i missing some files in the windows program.
window does not hook up to myguide .
funny is it just look exact same as orig , once i launch from the windows i have to reset the timezone from the windows.

I FINALLY got my gps back a couple of days ago. For those of you not keeping track; I sent it out mid August! The problem is that I had moved and rather than reading the RMA sheet which listed the proper, new return mailing address, they simply shipped it back to the addy on the sales receipt. Luckily the USPS eventually forwarded the box.
Items of note for the new upgrade so far:
- Unit was returned with a 1GB card, not a 2GB as promised
- Unit now exhibits the “SD card double-pump” issue. As a side note, I had previously returned the original card which was exchanged for a compatible card which had fixed that issue. I’m not impressed that it was returned with a relapse!
- Previously, my unit did not exhibit the “wrong time / no time reset” issue that has plagued this model but upon return of my upgraded unit, it now has the wrong time issue
- The My Guide software is v6.1 with a date of Mar 8, 2007
- The maps are Tele Atlas 2006.10
– The neighborhood where my new home is located, does not show on the new maps. This neighborhood is 2-3 years old.
- The unit now takes up to 3-5 minutes to lock on a GPS signal with clear skies in a semi-urban environmet (Waco, Texas) where before the update it took less than 10 seconds for GPS lock, even when overcast.
- I received a bounce notification when I tried to e-mail Andrew at V7 support. :(
All in all, IMHO this update isn’t worth the money I spent on shipping. If you are considering paying the $90 (or $130) they are charging for this update, seriously reconsider that decision.
October 27th, 2007 at 3:37 pm
Kely,
I think you should call them and ask for the 2GB card with the 2007 maps on it. That would solve a couple of your problems. There is a thread on v7.freeforums.org/ where someone gave them hell and got them to send him a new 2GB card, as was promissed in their upgrade information.
That’s really crappy the way they have their e-mail set up. I think after a couple of mails you get blocked. I was complaining my battery only lasted for 30 minutes, and got an answer back asking if I was charging it for at least 8 hours (which I was). Now my e-mails get rejected !!!
I am actually quite happy with my unit, but I am running iGO software on it (see the other forum), but V7 customer support is crap!

hi there, i’ve purchased a Mio C310x which (according to the Mio website) is licensed for both the USA & Canada maps…however I’ve tried using two different Canada.fbl files and neither has worked – I keep getting the “some maps are locked…” error message. These were the ~52 & ~110 mb files, it sounds like people are having better luck with the ~90mb file but all the links posted to it aren’t working for me…can someone please point me to somewhere i can download it? any help would be *GREATLY* appreciated!!!

dave c any news
i was searching all over the world couldn’t find the solution
for my startup screen.
the only thing is i use bam id , tap the screen.
can u or any 1 in this forum, look on their unit of the data.zip or windows and flashdisk ,how it program to start the screen which contain SETTING and MULTIMEDIA without inserting the sd card pleased 100000000 thanxx
October 28th, 2007 at 7:35 am
kk – I think that the program xstartup.exe in the root of the flashdisk is the one that runs at startup, and it checks the SD card for the path to Myguide etc. If the SD card is not there, then you just get ‘Multimedia’ and ‘Settings’.
Check the File – Properties for Xstartup – it should show 238kb, modified 10/13/2006. The ‘Attributes’ are set to ‘Archive’.
October 28th, 2007 at 2:55 pm
thanks Dave i,m going to go with the IGO fix/hack ..
October 28th, 2007 at 6:38 pm
thanx for reply daveC
yes it is xstartup exact same what u mention about.
this problem exist when i play around the mio 3.3 which u have to use the gapi for hpcs v310
i can’t figure it out . there is something missing either in the windows or flashdisk . or some type of files
October 29th, 2007 at 12:51 pm
kk – if you double-click xstartup, does it take you to the SD card menu ?
If yes, then there must be something wrong in the windows startup programs, and I don’t know anything about the operating system of win ce.
October 29th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
no it doesn’t go nowhere .as soon as double click and i saw a flying thing sorry i don’t no how to explain but it does not do anything stay still
October 29th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
ohhh sorry cont….
and after double click it freeeze then i have to shut down and restart again and do the screen tapping solution

Hey Brad, would it be possible to post a copy of the updated maps for Canada and the US? or send me a copy to bossy909@hotmail.com. Much appreciated.
November 3rd, 2007 at 6:07 pm
HA – the new maps will not work on your V7 unless it has been sent for upgrade.
You can read more here: v7.freeforums.org/

Hi, Dave C,
Is that only way which send it to them to upgrade v7 1000? May I do it by myself?
November 9th, 2007 at 8:59 am
Li – the V7 1000 needs a firmware upgrade to work with the latest maps (I guess they reprogram the rom?), so you cannot do it yourself.
I am running iGO software on my unit at the moment. It looks exactly like the Myguide software, except it will work with the latest maps (without the need for any upgrade from V7).
November 9th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
Hi, Dave C,
You mean I can change the software from Myguide to iGO. And how can I change it. Tell me the details. Thanks.
November 9th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
Li – go and read how to do it at v7.freeforums.org/
The easiest way is to just put the iGo files onto the SD card.
Also you will need a 2gB SD card if you want to fit all the new maps for North America.
November 11th, 2007 at 10:03 am

November 12th, 2007 at 10:30 am

It contains all the files needed for the SD card.
November 13th, 2007 at 7:44 am

Steve,
Unfortunately, we don’t carry the spare parts for the charger. You would have to purchase the car charger accessory online at http://www.gpsgeek.com. The charger for MyGuide 3000 is similar to the V7 Nav1000 that you have.

hi, I was shocked when I saw that videoseven is charging for updates of V7 1000 whereas other companies like Kenwood ND Garmin give that for free. WHY IS VIDEOSEVEN CHARGING $99+tax only for updates. One should never have bought GPS from this cheap comany
January 7th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
You can get fresh maps for most of the north American models here
http://v7support.com/V7GPS/Updates/
Just get the maps for your model. I tried others and they are all licence locked. Just pairing it with the proper license.db file is not enough to unlock them.
You can use any USB charging adapter for the wall or car. They are a few bucks total on ebay. A little more in a store.
check out http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=102174&whichpage=3 for instructions on how to enable the windowsCE taskbar, install games and other applications. These units are far more versitile than you may know.

I’m having trouble with the LoadVoice failed as well. I borrowed my friend’s MyGuide3000 and someone tried to play a game. After which, the unit failed to load every time I try to use Navigate feature. I asked my friend for the original box, but I found no CD inside with any original files. There’s only one CD which has PDF documentation. It’s just a manual on how to use the unit. Could someone please help me find the v_eng_us_m1 zip file? Mine’s corrupt. Please e-mail me at tennisboi25@hotmail.com
This is urgent!!!

The problem no lock – they may steal me V7 -
April 26th, 2008 at 7:39 am
Hi Dave C, I have been reading with great interest, all your posts on here and it appears you are quite a knowledgeable guru with regard to these SatNavs. I have a MyGuide 3000 and decided to try out your trick to allow access to Windows CE, (post: January 10th last year). I altered the text file addons.txt as per your instructions but now I have the same symptoms as a few folk on here, namely only the ’settings’ & ‘multimedia’ buttons showing. I’m using a Mac under OS X so I’m thinking this might be part of the problem but after fiddling around in Virtual PC and WordPad for hours, I am still no closer to getting my Navigation back. Do you have any suggestions – or even a copy of the SD?? Please!!
April 27th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
Hi Alex,
Please don’t confuse me (Dave C.) with Dave – I guess I should have picked a different name eh!
My addons.txt on the SD card looks like this:
[modules]
Games = “icons/games.bmp”, “”, 0
Navigate = “”, “\\Flash Disk\\myguide\\myguide.exe”
[Games]
Solitaire= “”, “\\Storage Card\\games\\solitaire\\solitaire.exe”
Flux= “”, “\\Storage Card\\games\\flux\\flux.exe”
Asia = “”, “\\Storage Card\\games\\asia\\asia.exe”
Arvale = “”, “\\Storage Card\\games\\arvale\\arvale.exe”
Explorer = “”, “\\”
The Explorer line can also be under the [modules] section – it just changes where the button appears.
If you have not changed the Navigate line in the addons.txt, then there is really no reason that you should not have the Navigate button. Except if your SD card is defective. With the unit on, eject the SD card and push it back in. If you then get the Nav button etc. showing, then the SD card is defective.
If the unit is under warranty, they should send you a new SD card. If not, and you have the DVD that came with the unit, it has all the files on it to write to a new SD card.
Also please note that I rarely look at this website – I mostly use http://v7.freeforums.org/ for help with V7 1000 / Myguide 3000.
You can also email me directly at deforestradio@hotmail.com
Let me know how it goes.
May 4th, 2008 at 12:48 am
Hi Dave C, sorry I got you mixed up with Dave. Thanks for your reply and information. I got a friend who’s into PC stuff and he discovered that, for some unknown reason the Mac TextEdit programme seems to put spaces in where they shouldn’t be. Once the erroneous spaces were removed, everything worked perfectly and so now I am able to access all the WinCE folders directly. Thanks again for a great tip and I’m scouring the net for more interesting things. At the moment I’m trying to find out the solution to a lot of user’s problems in copying everything to a bigger SD card. I tried it and got the message about not being able to find the license file, even though it is there in the MyGuide folder inside the flash disk. I now also can’t play movies, I get a ERR_FFFFFFF8 and then it quits, even when the SD card is not in – so the error must be in the ROM somewhere. Appreciate all your comments & suggestions.
May 18th, 2008 at 8:04 am
I searched the offical website of V7 (V7support.com/gps/index_files), there are 2 new versions of maps available for NAV700 and 720. However, the one that I have is 1000. Can you use one of them?
If yes, anyone has use them before or has any feedback?
Much appreciate.

Hello I was getting the windows (explore) button to appear and when it appeared the Navigate button dissappeared. Now Im no techno guy but I didnt erase it from the sd card file add ons. I think it has gone from the flash disk, I dont really know, Any help would be great. Thanks
June 12th, 2008 at 10:16 am
Your addons.txt on the SD card should look like this:
[modules]
Games = “icons/games.bmp”, “”, 0
Navigate = “”, “\\Flash Disk\\myguide\\myguide.exe”
[Games]
Solitaire= “”, “\\Storage Card\\games\\solitaire\\solitaire.exe”
Flux= “”, “\\Storage Card\\games\\flux\\flux.exe”
Asia = “”, “\\Storage Card\\games\\asia\\asia.exe”
Arvale = “”, “\\Storage Card\\games\\arvale\\arvale.exe”
Explorer = “”, “\\”
The Explorer line can also be under [modules] – it just changes where the icon will appear.

Hi Dave C.
Thanks for the reply but unfortunately this did not return my navigate button to the main screen. I fear I may have erased something actually from the Flash Disk. Is there anyway you can either send me what I need to restore the main screen or if there is a way to reset the unit. Any help would be awesome. The following is a list of what is in my Flash Disk:
My Guide
XCommon
XImage
XMovie
XMP3
cali.dat
crash.txt
DATA.ZIP
igolaunch
IGOPATH.txt
LANGSYNC
pnaupdate
SettingsBackup.ini
XSTARTUP
Im not sure but i thought this may help.
Thanks
Blake
June 12th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
Guys, I was wondering if someone can help me out here… I started reading the posts but unfortunately theres too much to go over and most of the info doesn’t do much for me.
I got the V7 1000 which I had it updated over at the manufacturer last year with the new maps, got the new DVD, etc. The US maps work fine, except once coming from Florida the unit crashed and upon restart it wouldn’t display the navigation button. After it cooled down and several restarts, it started working ok again.
I tried to modify the addons.txt file as stated above by Dave C. but when I start the unit I get the message on a window called MyGuideLauncher with the following text: “Exception Occured, Callstack dumped to \crash.txt” and upon clicking the ok button the screen defaults to the initialization screed with the MyGuide logo.
Really what I want to do is to use the European maps I got from Igo software, not sure how to make them work.
This forum is awesome however the info is not easy to find, if someone can help sort this thing out for me I would really appreciate it.
Regards!
June 12th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Blake – when the unit is turned on, try ejecting and reinserting the SD card – does it make any difference ?? Some of the original SD cards were defective, and the Nav button would not appear unless the card is ‘pumped’.
How old is your unit ?
Also, I would recommend this site for V7 1000:
http://v7.freeforums.org/
June 12th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
Valentino,
So if you put your addons.txt back the way it was, does your unit work OK ??
My unit was never updated by V7, so I don’t know if that addons.txt is valid for your unit.
You can run iGO from the SD card – check out http://v7.freeforums.org/ for details.
June 13th, 2008 at 7:10 am
Dave C. Thanx for your reply!
Yes, if I modify the addons.txt back to its original state the unit will work perfect, when I add the line Explorer = “”, “\\” the error will be displayed again. I am thinking if i should do the hardware modification or not to access this thing that way…
As far as the v7.freeforum I signed up but it doesn’t let me log in, I am not sure what’s going on..
Again, thank you fro your help on this issue.

Dave C.
Thanks again for the reply. I did try the pushing the SD card in and out and this did not repair my navigate button. I also tried to do the update to 6.1 and there is not enough room on the SD card. I am at a loss for what to do as I am not very good with computers. What do I do now? I think I have to reformat my Flash Disk but I have no idea how to go about it. I read the thread about updating but again I have no clue how to do this. Sorry you have to deal with a techno peasant like me but your help would be very helpful.
Thanks Blake
June 14th, 2008 at 6:23 am
Blake – how long have you had this unit ?
Did it ever go back to V7 for upgrade ?
Did you erase or write anything to the Flash Disc ?
(I don’t understand why you have pnaupdate on the Flash)
(Don’t think of formatting the Flash – that could create more problems)
June 15th, 2008 at 7:08 am
how do i get the german language changed to english?
June 15th, 2008 at 7:26 am
Under Settings / Language & Units you should be able to select different program language and different voice language.
June 16th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Hi Dave
I have had the unit since Jan. of this year I have not sent it in to V7. Everything worked great until I got brave and started to try to do a few of the mods listed here and in V7 forums. I added the explorer button and did one other mod that allows me to do the 6.1 update. And that was when I lost my navi button. I tried doing the MyGuide 6.1 update but as i have said many times im not very good with computers and such. I dont recall erasing anything to the flash. On the flash currently is:
MyGuide
XCommon
XImage
XMovie
XMP3
AUTORUN
cali
DATA
igolaunch
IGOPATH
LANGSYNC
PNAUpdate
pnaupdate
SettingsBackup.ini
XSTARTUP
Thats in my falsh Disk if you see anything added or missing please let me know and I can add it or delete it. This is a list of my Storage Card:
Games
MyGuide
WINDOWS
ADDONS
Now as I stated I did try the 6.1 upgrade myself and I have downloaded it but I dont understand how to apply it to the card or unit. Im sorry Im such a techno tool but hey I tried. So if you have anymore suggestions or advice Id appreciate it.
Thanks again
Blake
June 16th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Hi Blake,
I would delete the following files on the Flash Disc:
autorun.exe and the 2 pnaupdate files.
They are not supposed to be there.
Then try it again and let me know.
June 17th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Hey Dave C.
I did that and no progress yet but I thank you for helping still. Is there anything else in the entire explorer system you can think of that I may have erased or that im missing.
Blake
June 17th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Hi Blake,
Try doing the 6.1 upgrade again.
Download and unzip the upgrade to your computer, then copy the 4 files and 1 folder to your SD card (NOT TO Flash). Do not unzip the pnaupdate.zip – just copy it to the SD card with the other files. Restart the V7 and let me know what happens.
June 17th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
Hey Dave I tried what you have suggested here but when I try to copy the 4 files and 1 folder into the SD card it says the disk in the destination drive is full. All I have in there is the games folder, windows folder, myguide folder and the addons. what should i do. Also after I deleted the autorun.exe and the two PNA updates (as per the June 16th post you returned to me)from the flash I lost my games, the buttons are there but the games wont load. As far as the disk being full do I need a bigger card?
June 17th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Hey I figured that part out and my games are back but the update failed. It said ‘uncompressing failed’ and to ‘call the hotline for assistance’. Any ideas?
June 17th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Blake,
Can you check how much space is on your Flash.
(I assume your Explorer is still working OK)
Highlight the Flash Disk and then select File – Properties.
Should show something like Used: 10.8MB
June 18th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Hi Dave
Last night I got my games back. But today when I started it up today to check the space on the Flash Disk it wouldnt load only the main MyGuide page would show up. No multimedia, settings or games buttons just the main load up screen with the pictures on the left. I didnt do anything new to the unit. So I dont know what to do now. I have no idea how to get into explorer without the main screen.
June 18th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Dave
I just redid the upgrade and everything works awesome. I have no idea why but im glad and very thankful. I appreciate all your help I dont know how you have the patience to sit down and help all of us technopeasants. Now I have another favour and you can respond whenever you want because its not a priority. I would like to somehow update my maps. I was recently in Florida and the maps are very out dated. But unfortunately for you I will need it explained step by step. Again thanks and no rush on the map updates.
Your the best Dave C.
very thankful
Blake
June 18th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Blake,
Glad you got it working – I have seen others complain about that error ‘uncompressing failed’, and I have no idea what really causes that.
If you want newer maps I would recommend that you register at http://v7.freeforums.org/
Get yourself a new 2GB SD card, and then download iGO Myway (under navigation software) and the maps for iGO Myway 2006 version 2007.10 (under map updates).
I wouldn’t try iGO Myway 2008 right away as it is more complicated.
The advantage with iGO is that it will run from the SD card – you don’t have to do anything to the flash disk – and it will work with all the newer maps. (The V7 1000 will NOT work with newer maps)
Read as much as you can on that website.
If you’re stuck, leave a message over there on V7 forums.

V7 – Ingram is supposed to be releasing new maps for the V7 1000 online probably around August 20. You should be able to download them from their website. No need to send in the unit for upgrade.
Don’t know if there will be a cost or if it will be free. Go to http://www.v7world.com around Aug 10 and there might be an announcement indicating the new upgrade program.
I for one hope they are free. So if Ingram is monitoring this board please please give them free.
cheers,

Hi everyone
On my place here in Denmark I enjoy this forum – I have read all the parts of the announcements – but I need one – I have the V7 and Dave C was helpful to guide my for an antenna – and now it works fine –
But now is the TMC it comes up and inc. – but hav kan I get it to work ?- it needs an antenna but is that all – do it have to be connectet to the radio – ????
I do not have an antenna – and cant buy any here in Denmark.
Where can I buy this. do it have a parts number ?
I hope for an answer – and thanks – Steen

Steen,
To get TMC signal with the V7, you need not only an antenna, but also a seperate TMC receiver.
I don’t think it is worth the expense trying to get this to work with the V7.
I think it would be better to look for a GPS with built-in TMC receiver.

Hi Dave thanks for the advice – I was curios about the TMC – so I leave it as it is.
Thanks Steen

Hey
Anyone know what website i can update map on my v7 myguide navigation 1000 device?

eric & RObert,
Go to http://v7.freeforums.org/ and register, and then try doing the MyGuide v6.1 upgrade (under ‘Download Area / Navigation software’ )
Make111 – go to the same website and read. I think the easiest way to get new maps is to use iGO MyWay software, which can run directly from the SD card with no modification to the V7 (you will need a 2GB SD card if you want to fit all the US/Canada maps. iGO looks much the same as MyGuide. The iGO MyWay 2008 (iGO8) is nice, but quite a bit more complicated, so try the basic iGO first.

I’ve registered on the above limked forum under two user names in an attempt to get through the login process, but to no avail. I can’t even seem to be able to send a message to the administrator to discuss the problem. Would anyone be able to steer me in the right direction?

I just want to thank you all for the advice I have found on this Blog. My V7 would not bring up the Navigation icon when I inserted the SD card. Re-pumping didn’t help. So I followed advice and copied the information from the CD onto a new 2 GB SD card and voila! it’s all working again. Thanks to all of you. I didn’t manage to get any support from the V7 tech service, unanswered emails and phone messages over a couple of months. I was so frustrated I actually went and bought a new Magellan GPS. Now I have to decide what to do with it, return it or keep it. It has some nice features and is easier to use.
