We thought we had covered all MyGuide GPS navigation systems but it looks like we missed one. Today we have the V7 MyGuide 1000, which seems to be the North American version of V7 PMD 1400. The products look identical however the pre-loaded maps are different. The one on NewEgg has maps of 50 US States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, Western Europe incl UK, Scandinavia, The MyGuide V7 sells for $250 which is a good price for a product that offers the most comman basic features such as 3.5″ touch screen, integrated battery and speaker, and an SD slot.

I just bought a brand new V7 Navigation 1000 PNA at Future shop (Canadian Hi-tech shop)
I have a question about the downloading of European cards for this American V7 1000 version but they could not answer to my question.

I hope you would help me more.

    My question is :

    - Can I find and download European cards for this V7 Navigation 1000 that I just bought in Canada ?

    - If yes , what is the price of the downloading for the European cards ?

    Thanks for your help

  2. Richard Says:

Try emailing V7 (their email is on the back of the box). You could also try http://www.myguidegps.com (makers of the software) and if that fails http://www.navshop.com/en/index.php (makers of the actual maps).

If you do get in contact with anyone, could you let me know? Updated maps would be very nice.. the ones included appear to be quite inaccurate and outdated.

    Hello,
I was wondering if their are any updates on the card because their are a few roads i need to go on that are not showing up on my gps. I think it may be an old map service

Just bought this unit for my son.
Really surprised at the lack of instructions for operation.
Took some time to figure it out and still are stumped at one thing.
What is the purpose of the “M” button on the upper left side?
Also this unit does not seem to be able to keep track of the time & date.
    Any suggestions?

  6. HM Says:

I have the same problem as you, I will be going back to the dealer and ask for explanations. Everytime I power off, I lose all my settings.

  7. Ken Says:

And I’m still wondering what the “M” button does 8)

of files on the original SD card for US version.
    much appreciated !!

  9. HM Says:

Hi KEN, I returned it to the shop and exchange it with a new one, same type.

I will try this one and see, will let youknow as soon as I know.

The (M) button suppose to return you to the menu, I know it does not always work.

  10. Jim Wy Says:

First of all, the instruction manual is on the cd that came with the device.
    Go to “My Computer”
Right click on the CD and press “Open”
    Manuals are under Manuals.
“MapLoader SD” will setup your SD card again. You could get all fancy and try to copy the “SD” folder to your card.
My “M” does not work. Aparently it’s the same as “Menu”
    Myguide.com has EU maps.
    NA maps are 2005

Press the “SAT” icon, on the right side, press “Time Sync” and leave “Auto GPS update” on. Put the PDA -500 for EST and it’ll update automatically.

Bought in Ottawa at FS for $269

  11. Ken Says:

    Thankyou Jim Wy.
I had put the CD in before but it had opened up to the maps.
Didn’t see any manuals until I followed your instructions.
You got it for the same price I paid. Seems to be a good deal.
    Thanks again.

the M button is pretty useless but page above explaines that its to scroll game items :S

as the v7 is just a rebranded myguide unit

also maybe get support from this site as its their americas site even though its pretty weak…

hope this helps shed some light as it did for me…

also looking in to hacking a phonebook for lookups into the unit, put apps under the games folder and edit the addons.txt but they need to be for windows ce.net 4.2 arm processor as its hard to find stuff for it you think a lousy phonebook for NA would be a common item among PPC user :( if you add stuff to it thats not for those requirements it will give you an error msg saying unsupported wince application as its done for me because i cant find anything for 4.2 mainly everything was for 3 or 5 oh well guess because 4.2 is more a developers platform then userbased… goodluck hacking!

I also got this unit on a boxing day sale at FS. I love it as it’s very accurate, but the things that don’t work bother me the most. The (M) Button which is suppose to bring you to the Main Menu. Although this is minor to me.

Also, I’ve found that sometimes when I start the unit, it just hangs (typical Windows style) with no error message or anything. I have to turn it off and back on. Works sometimes, and not others.

I really hate the fact that settings aren’t retained (at least the time/date should be). I have mine set to sync, but I don’t always use it for the GPS feature.

I wish this unit could play MP3 while using the GPS, but no big deal. Also the lack of instructions and websites out there are killing me. There’s got to be something out there.

Anyway, I hope my next post will help out more, since I’ve emailed support about the issues I have with this unit. I just sent it, so I’ll post their reply once I receive it. I questioned all the above plus map updates and where to get them.

    Thanks,
    Dave

I just bought a V7 1000. But I can not get GPS signal most of the time. I only succeeded in getting the signal in the morming. I turned it off later and turned in back on in the evenning. But I could not get any GPS signal any more. Anybody know why?

  22. David Says:

Jason, it tends to be slow at locking in to a satellite. Make sure you are in a clear area. Once locked in it should remain connected regardless of where you go (except inside some buildings). At times I’ve waited 10 minutes for it to connect.

I’m not sure why it takes so long sometimes.

The V7 is supposed to accept up to 4 gig. It’s just a simple SD card as far as I can see. The card in it now is 1 gig

  25. David Says:

Yes, you can buy up to 4 gigs and load it with all the MP3’s, Movies and pictures you want.

No response to my email yet. I’ll keep you all posted.

    One more thing

Can someone please post the phone number, email and web site of the support people for this unit, I could not find it on the net.

    Thanks

  28. Andy Says:

Hi guys, I just bought this unit as well. And I’m wondering if you guys have the same problems I do. Whenever I restart the unit, I have to re-insert the SD card before it will read the card and show the “Navigate” option in the main menu. Anybody else having this problem?

  29. Jim Wy Says:

Yup, same here. It seems that as long as power’s applied to the unit (plugged into the charger, but w/ the unit off) it is good. But if I have the power A/C or charger removed AND it off, I have to double-pump the card to get it to recognize. Anybody else have this problem?? If everybody has it then it’s a s/w problem device wide. If only a few have it then mine will be going backw/ an exchange. PS I’m thinking about the $57 4 yr warranty now a lot more too :-) For $250+ this thing does everything I want it to, but w/o the monster price tag.

    JW

  30. Kevin Says:

Yes i have most of the same issues as well…..re-insert the sd card half the time upon starting to get Navigate button. Time is out of sync and I have to reset time and time zone.
    (M) button is useless. The only beef I have is that I can’t create a route and way points on my pc and download it via USB to the V7 1000…but hey for the money it is a great unit. I usually pick up no less than 8 sats in under 90 seconds and even used it just sitting near the window in my house. it even worked walking around in the kitchen and gave me my km/h athough accuracy was compromised to the tune of 1.8-2.1 meters.
recalc also doesn’t show the shortest route or an alternate route

  31. David Says:

OK, I have a bunch of information for everyone. These were my questions and the responses I got from the US company supporting them.

    1. Sometimes the Windows CE doesn’t load. The unit hangs at the MYGUIDE display screen. I am forced to turn it off and back on. Eventually it will continue, but sometimes it takes 3-4 times powering on/off before it does. Is there a way to fix that?
Response: If this continues we will replace the unit for you.

    2. When I press the top-left button labelled (M) on the unit, nothing happens. I am told it’s suppose to go to the main menu? Is the button useless?
Response: the m button does not return to the main menu as indicated in the manual. It does scroll through the choices in POI and Games.

    3. Can MP3’s play while the GPS is on?
Response: you cant use the mp3 while in navigation mode.

    4. Why isn’t the time saved after I power the unit off and back on again? I thought the time/date would retain in memory.
Response: the date and time is adjusted when you receive a gps signal you only need to change the time zone once and ignore the time and don’t change the time that appears above the time zone screens.

    5. When is the new map coming out for Canada? There is a new highway on-ramp where I live that’s been there for 2 years and it doesn’t appear on the GPS map.
Response: maps will be available in march.

Here is the contact information where I got these answers from:

I bought V7 Navigation 1000 from futureshop website during Boxing Week & I like it very much. It’s more portable, has more useful features than Garmin C330 (refurbished sold at CDN$299 during Boxing Week) and it’s GPS function was also solid. Garmin C330 was easier to use, however, it’s very hard to do route planning and it takes you more steps/clicks to setup a nearby location (cannot remember recent cities), which is quite annoying.

Besides, the AVI movie playback feature of V7 is very good & actually more useful than most people think. It’s 3.5” screen was big & clear enough to offer you same feeling as watching TV from a normal distance. So now I can watch some movies in a more relaxing way (on bed or while waiting). The 4 games offered by V7 are also decent. These are not cheap, crappy mini games, they are well designed, well presented and enjoyable.

However, the MP3 playback & especially picture viewer feature if V7 are not that practical, since it just put all files in the same list however you organize folders. Also it displays pictures & scrolls image list very slow, so it’s very hard to locate a specific picture from the long list.

Of course, in order to use above features (or to add more maps, upgrade maps in the feature), you have to buy another SD cards, better >2GB if you want to play a whole movie. Probably you also have to buy a SD reader/writer. SD cards on on sale these days both at Futureshop & Bestbuy and SD reader/writer does not cost much. This extra cost for me is less than $CDN80.

V7 Navigation does offer more value than it’s inexpensave sale price, however, many buyers would not appreciate it since this product has no printed manual or even a clear guide on where to find the pdf one. So unless you got some experience with eletronic products and even know how to handle SD cards, basically you would miss many of it’s neat feaures. You would not even navigate to USA since the USA maps were on the CD but not on the orginal SD cards! No wonder I saw many “open box” V7s in futureshop which means lots of buyers just choosed to return it with frustration.

    V7 Navigation 1000 (M) Menu-button bug fix

Those who have a V7 Navigation 1000 have probably noticed that the Menu (M) button doesn’t actually go to the menu. It doesn’t do much of anything actually (other than behave as “up” for a few menus), which is quite disappointing since there are only really 3 buttons you can use on the front (excluding the backlight on/off button) and the other two you will usually want to keep at their default functionality (zooming in and out).

Oh hey, what do you know - if you followed the instructions in my last blog entry, you will have access to change this!
1.Take the v7 sd card and put it into a card reader wich you can plug into a usb port to your compuer
2.Browse to \Flash Disk\MyGuide\ in Explorer (on the PC).
    3.Copy the 1.3mb Data.zip to your PC’s hard drive.
4.Rename the Data.zip on the GPS to Data.orig (as a backup).
5.Open the Data.zip that you copied to your PC and extract config\keybind.txt from the archive.
6.Open keybind.txt in Notepad and scroll down to the [CARPOINTA1000] section.
7.Below this, add the following line: UP=”MAINMENU”. The section will now look like this:
    [CARPOINTA1000]
    UP=”MAINMENU”
    39=”ZOOMIN_DISCRETE”
    37=”ZOOMOUT_DISCRETE”
8.Save keybind.txt and replace the original keybind.txt in Data.zip with your edited keybind.txt. Make sure that you actually replace the file and that it goes into the correct directory of Data.zip.
9.Copy the updated Data.zip back to the GPS (put it back in \Flash Disk\MyGuide\).

Done and done! You can now start MyGuide and the Menu (M) button will now behave just like going to MAIN MENU

You can actually replace MAINMENU with many other useful commands, of which ROUTEINFO is a good choice. As it is obviously the intended behavior of the Menu buttons is MAIN MENU. Have a look through keybind.txt to get an idea of what other commands you can try.

Of course, if you don’t use the zoom in/out buttons, you can change the bindings on those too.

    V7 Navigation 1000 (M) Unlocking

I have a V7 Navigation 1000 gps unit that i have managed to sort of unlock. While doing some research i think this is the same as MyGuide 3000.

Anyhow on the flash card that comes with the GPS you have a file called addons.txt , simply put this line in…

    Windows = “”, “\\”

Save it and put it back in the gps and you will have a windows button appear and then just tap on it 2 times and you are in windows ce !!

This is the U.S model and im desperately trying to get it to work with european maps and would apprechiate any input from the experts. Thanks!!

I’ve actually posted full instructions on opening up the V7 Navigation 1000 on my blog.. http://www.technofumbles.com/weblog/

It does require opening the unit and making (minor) hardware modifications to expose a USB port, so be warned that you will likely void your warranty. Having said that, it gives you full access to the device so you can change anything you want - including make bug fixes. ;)

  35. Gilles Says:

    Dave,

I went thru navigating in the Myguide Folder on the Flah Memory (Not the SD Card). I noticed a licence.db file in the directory tree.

I tried to replace this file with 2 other similar files, one for the Mio and the other one from the Igo 2006 software.

In both case I received similar messages telling me either it could’nt find coordinate for the licence or that the license is for another device (Can’t recall which message came with which attempt though).

I guess if you can get a license.db from a european V7 model then you should be able to access the european maps.

Please keep me posted if you have a chance to test it with a better license.db file than I personally was.

I have the command list of IGO below:
    TILTDOWN

    ZOOMIN
    ZOOMOUT
    ZOOMIN_DISCRETE
    ZOOMOUT_DISCRETE
    ROTATELEFT
    ROTATERIGHT
    MOVELEFT
    MOVERIGHT
    MOVEUP
    MOVEDOWN
    FOLLOW_OR_ANNOUNCE
    MAINMENU
    MINIMIZE
    VOLUMEUP
    VOLUMEDOWN
    TOGGLEMUTE
    MUTE
    UNMUTE
    BRINGMAPTOTOP
    GOTOHOME
    PREVSCREEN
    SETTINGS

I map the M key to FOLLOW_OR_ANNOUNCE, so when I press it, it will tell me the route instruction again.

  52. Philpw99 Says:

Also I change the IGOPATH.txt to

    [modules]
    Settings = “icons\settings.bmp”, “settings”, 1
    Multimedia= “icons\media.bmp”, “Multimedia”, 0
    Explorer = “icons\files.bmp”, “\\Windows\\Explorer.exe”

    …..

Now explorer will always available in the front.

  53. Philpw99 Says:

More, to change the voice you like, take a look in “Flash Disk\data.zip”. Under “ui\settings” there is a lang.ini file. You can edit it to fit your way
For example, I use English US as the language but I will like to use the UK female voice as the guidance. So I edit that lang.ini

    ….
    [languages]
lang = “english US”, “ui\settings\flag_usa.bmp”, “English (US)”, “english_m1_us”

    I change it to
lang = “english US”, “ui\settings\flag_usa.bmp”, “English (US)”, “english_f1_uk”

Now I can enjoy the voice more while still using the US english as the language. Even though I don’t know what’s the difference between US and GB English.

Do your SD cards have anything on them? Did you copy the data from the original card to the second one? If you did; are you using windows operating system to copy them? because the v7 uses wince. If you can see the gps data and folders on both cards on your computer, then the problem may be your unit. Other posts show that there is a problem with some of the original SD cards that came with the unit. Could it be possible if you replaced it with another original V7 SD card that it too, is also a bad card?./

The M key issu seems to be a code problem that is only resolved by hacking the unit. The processe is detailled at url:TechnoFumbles.com - Fumbling around with technology Hacking the V7 Navigation 1000 GPS . The whole thing is rather complex and not for

I still have not bought the unit. I found that Dell sells the unit for 299$CND with Maps included on SD Card:
    a) 50 US States incl Hawaii & Alaska; Canada;Guam; Puerto Rico
    b) Western Europe incl UK, Scandinavia
    c) Complete Europe incl. Western, Central & Eastern Europe .

Anybody have any info on this.

  61. Pierre Says:

Quelqu’un sait comment trouver des carte d’europe pour le Mio C210. Elle sont disponibles en Europe. Je ne réussi pas à les trouver au Canada ou aux USA. Ça semble être un problème généralisé à tous le GPS portable.

  62. Tyler Says:

Hey does anybody have any idea when they are going to release the updated version of the Canada map???

  63. Dave Says:

Hi Tyler - V7 tech support told me that they will have new maps available in April. I guess they will appear on the download section of their website: http://www.v7-world.com/

  64. Tyler Says:

    Sweet thanks Dave!!

  65. Dave C. Says:

Has anyone tried the following functions ? - they don’t work for me:
    1. Auto Night Colours - supposed to automatically switch to night colors just before sunset.
    2. Warn When Speeding
    3. Backlight-Smart Powersave

By the way, if you have trouble with the Navigation button not appearing when you turn the unit on, and have to pop the SD card out and back in to get it, call V7 and ask for a replacement SD card : 866-217-9887 (or email service@videoseven.com )

  66. Tim Says:

Dave C, I emailed Ares support and they told me WARN WHEN SPEEDING does work in the US. I had no luck either also noted in NAV setting ADVANCED under display option, select one of the 3 fields (left, middle, right) for speed limit. Anybody have a clue!

  67. Ibrahim Gurel Says:

    Hi everyone,

Here many people asked the same question but I couldn’t do anything with the provided answers. Is it possible that someone puts all the content of the European Map SD to somewhere that we can download?

Or is there any DIRECT link? I’m sure many many people will be really thankful if someone can help.

    Thanks.

  68. Tim Says:

    HI EVERYONE,

HAS ANYONE GOT “WARN THEN SPEEDING” TO FUNCTION AND IF SO HOW?
SUPPORT SAY IT FUNCTION IN U.S?

  69. Tony Y Says:

It’s going for $199 today only on dell.ca’s Days of Deals. Good buy?

  70. bluerain Says:

After reading the great review of the V7 I decided to buy one today.

Got it from Dell’s Days of Deals sale for $199.99CDN.

Sales ends tonight before midnight (not sure which timezone — either EST or PST). So hurray if you want to get in on the deal!!!!

    Click on Link:
    http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/days_of_deals?c=ca&cs=CADHS1&l=en&s=dhs

  71. Dave C. Says:

$199CDN is an amazing price. This unit has a few glitches, but for that price you can’t go wrong.
For anyone who has problems with low signal, or slow aquisition, I would recommend you try an external antenna. I just bought one from http://www.gpspeople.com for CDN$19.95 with free shipping. Part number AT-555, MMCX external antenna. It works really well. It just about doubles the signal strenght, and I was getting an accuracy of 1 metre consistently. Now I have to figure out how to mount it on my car.

  72. Edward Says:

I followed the steps above to modify the DATA.ZIP in the \Flash Disk\MyGuide in my PC, then copy back to the GPS, then, it can not start. (nothing displays after turn on the power). I guess the zip file is damaged. Anyone knows how to fix it? Please help!

  73. Philip Liu Says:

    Dave C, I just bought this unit, but found that there’s no “data.zip” under \Flash Card\My Guide\.

    Is there a workaround?

    Thanks!

  74. Emmanuel Says:

Also get this weird intermittent problem where I get the Navigation menu, power off and on again, and then it’s gone. So weird. As if the SD card is defective. Is there a work around? Thanks!

  75. Dave C. Says:

Edward: Are you sure you replaced DATA.ZIP in Flash Disk\MyGuide\, as there is another DATA.ZIP in the root of the Flash Disk. Strange you get nothing displayed at all. Not much you can do if you can’t get into Windows! Maybe someone else here has suggestions ???
Philip Liu: You are probably looking on the SD card. There is no Data.zip on the SD card. It is on the internal Flash Disk. Be careful - you can wreck the unit if you change the wrong file (see previous message!)
Emmanuel: Yes, it’s the SD card that is defective. See my previous mail and call tech support. They should send you a replacement SD card.

  76. Tom Says:

Not sure if I’m missing something or it’s software bug? Planing a route from Toronto to NYC gives as result a way through Montreal… None of route parameters changes it. Even if I change to shortest route it still goes via Montreal which gives 1200km distance while crossing border after Kingston it’s about 800km. Any idea why works like this? thanks in advance.

  77. shay Says:

here are all the updates for Myguide 3000 V7 navigatin system http://www.myguidegps.com/en/pro.php?p=11&pv=8

  78. Timi Says:

    Hi Dave C.,
I edited keybind.txt file and coppied it back to Flash Disk\MyGuide but I got error message: failed to open file: ctype.dat.
What should I do to avoid this error.
    Thanks

  79. Dave C. Says:

    Hi Timi,

What did you do exactly. You should have copied flashdisk/myguide/data.zip to the SD card, made the changes to keybind.txt in the data.zip on your computer, and then copied data.zip back to flashdisk/myguide/
I’m not sure what the error message is but maybe you don’t have the correct path information for keybind.text in the data.zip. The path information should show config/

Did you keep a backup of flashdisk/myguide/data.zip ?
I could email you a copy.

Just as a check, the data.zip in the root of Flashdisk should be 457Kb, and the one in Flashdisk/myguide/ should be 1348Kb.

  80. Vic Says:

Hey Guys - I just picked up the v7 1000 … I can’t seem get mp3’s to work. I created a folder called MP3 on the SD Card (as indicated in manual), but the unit doesn’t seem to recognize it….and what’s more, the “navigator” option on the menu seems to dissapear. It re-appears once I remove the MP3 folder from the SD Card. Any thoughts…Perhaps I should give it more time to recognize ???

  81. Timi Says:

    Hi David,
Thanks for your quick respone. I think the problem is the Winzip file, I use difference PC and the ZIP file working correctly.

  82. Chanada Says:

Any comments regarding the MP4 feature? Has anyone tried using this device to watch videos?

  83. Timi Says:

    Chanada,
I can watch video in this unit very good, the movies I have is in Divx format.

  84. Edward Says:

    Dave,
Thank you for the quick response. I did replace the Data.zip in the correct place. But don’t know why it returns nothing. (I did the work while the device was charging. I don’t think it will cause the problem.) Maybe the only way to fix it is to make it “USB-able”, but that is too much to me. Too bad, I have to return it.

  85. Dave C. Says:

Vic - it’s probably a bad SD card. The ones supplied are of poor quality. Tech support should send you a replacement SD card.
Just for a test I took my old SD card that had trouble giving the Navigation button in the menu and put a folder on it called MP3 with a couple of tracks in it. It worked fine a couple of times, but then I could not get the Navigation option, so I deleted the MP3 folder, and it still won’t work. When I look in Windows Explorer on the V7, it does not even recognize the card anymore. (works fine in my computer card reader or my camera!). There seems to be a combination of problems with the poor quality sd card, and the card reader in the V7.
I am a little nervous now to try and put some MP3 on my new card in case that also stops working!!

  86. Pezzer44 Says:

I was wondering if u can run like windows moblie 5 on this system or something like it if u can, can u plz email me the directions on how to do it thank you :) dell is selling this unit again for $199 :)

  87. Pezzer44 Says:

    sry my mail is Pezzer44@hotmail.com

  88. Vic Says:

Thanks Dave. I seem to have got it working - after clearing out the sd card and reloading the maps etc.

Someone mentiond that theyheard the maps are going to be updated in April Does anyone know by what method the unit would get updated…ie. automatically via gps?? Just wondering.

    Thanks.

  89. Dave C. Says:

Vic - see mail above dated 14 March.

  90. Claude Says:

I just created myself a spare SD with a 256 Mb SD from SANDISK.
I only loaded world and Canada maps.

So far, unit seems to boot every time with the navigation option (which was not the case with the V7 original SD)

For the update maps, I believed that you need to download and replaced them on the SD card. But for sure it won’t be via the GPS signals…

Great unit for 200 Cdn (yes I got it last Monday from Dell)

    Claude

  91. HA Says:

Any one having problems with the POI? I can’t see any of the services around me or even in Canada. Gas stations and other services shown are only in the USA. Let me know if you can help. Thx

  92. bam Says:

    hi all,
Thanx for the great tips and suggestions. I have recently bought a v7 1400 sat nav with uk+irland maps. How can I upgrade for Europe and usa?
    ANY SUGGESTIONS?

  93. Dave C. Says:

    bam,

I could trade you a copy of the DVD with Canada/USA maps for a copy of your UK/Ireland. You just have to copy the DVD that came with the unit. Email me at deforestradio@hotmail.com if you are interested.

  94. bam Says:

How can we save favourites on this sat nav?

  95. Claude Says:

    >Any one having problems with the POI? I can’t see any of the services around me or even in Canada. Gas stations and other services shown are only in the USA. Let me know if you can help. Thx

They work for me in Montreal, I used the french menu but basicly from maps, select the menu, then Express, then POI (not directly POI)
For each type of POI (and inside each type) make sure they are set to be display.

From the main GPS menu (cockpit, maps, option…) select the options, maps
make sure you level of display is set to the max.

From the cockpit or maps, make sure you zoom enough to display the POI.

Once you find them, you can tune these setting to display them as you want (or try to)

Remember that for POI that points to a commercial place )(such as a gaz station) they need to purchase the POI. I beleived that it is the same for the AAA/CAA booklet, Michelin Guide, etc.

Good luck, hope this answer your question,
    \Claude

  98. Steven Says:

    Hi

I like to know if there is any Chinese voice file can be use with the unit (V7-1000)

    Thanks

  99. Karoly Says:

Claude, it is 299 cdn on dell site not 199 cdn as you wrote. Was it on special last week ? Thanks,

  100. Pierre4 Says:

As Shay was writing march 28th, there are updates for Myguide 3000 and V7 navigation at http://www.myguidegps.com/.

However I wouldn’t touch the Hotfix in there. It looks like something for German version only.

On the other side, I’m going in Europe at the end of May with my V7… I’ll be looking for Europe maps to feed it!

    Enjoy your GPS.

  101. li Says:

First I have to thank Dave C. to send data.zip file to me.

I have a problem with moive player. I made a folder named moive, and the I put a AVI movie. When I play the avi movie, it pops up a bar with :divx0200 and divx0202. I tried another AVI movie, it pops up play009. Something like that. And it asks me to click OK. After I click OK, it quit back to Movie. Can anyone help to fix this problem. What is the correct way to put moive on SD card. Email: panlimm@yahoo.com

    Thank you.

  102. Dave C. Says:

Li - it worked OK for me. I just put the AVI file on the SD card (Not in a folder).

  103. Bryan Says:

    Dave,

I did exactly what I was supposed to with the Data.zip file and made sure I copied the new file into the flashdisk/myguide folder and I get the same ctype error message when trying to load navigation. Could you send me the original DATA file please, somewhere I must have accidentally erased it too. thanks.

    flyerboyz@rogers.com

  104. li Says:

I check the google. It says that the Divx0200 means the Quarter Pixel feature is not supported. And Divx0202 means GMC feature is not supported.
But I don’t know how to fix it. Is there any diferent AVI file? Who can send me a short sample AVI miove? Or tell me where I can download a AVI moive.
    Thank you.

    Li

  105. li Says:

Can this gps play MPEG4 moive? I put MP4 moive on it. It doesn’t work. It should play MP4 moive. But I don’t know why it doesn’t work .

  106. Dave C. Says:

Li - I just tried some AVI clip and got error PLAY0109. I think the AVI file has to have Divx compression. Right click the avi file and select Properties, then Summary. I used some software called WinAVI Video Converter to convert DVD to AVI and it worked OK on the V7. Unfortunately I think there are many different AVI formats.

  107. Bryan Says:

    >>>>>Thanks for the original and mod files Dave, she works perfectly now. There must be issue I can’t quite figure out with winzip 11. Thanks to you too Li.

    regards
    Bryan

  108. red Says:

ok, so lets try to get this project going…..
in order to run european maps on this thing we will ned two things, a cracked myguide.exe file and a “one-for-all” license.db file. anybody have any luck with that?

also, I have mio 310 and i like it however i love the menu shell interface that starts up with this device. anybody can please copy off the right files off the flashdisk on the unit and put it on some place like rapidshare etc?

  109. Dave C. Says:

Red - you say we need a cracked myguide.exe file - is this file country specific ? How about if we replace the Flash Disk contents with the one from a European unit. Do you think it will then read the European maps?
I think the UK unit actually has a copy of the Flash Disk on the SD card.

  110. Tom Says:

Get the world maps, all license.db and myguide.exe crack from this forum

    http://forum.pdalink.org/

  111. Tom Says:

  112. Dave C. Says:

Tom - do you know exactly what the crack for myguide.exe is doing ?

  113. Raymond Says:

Hi Dave, the http://www.gpspeople.com URL is not valid.

  114. Dave C. Says:

Raymond - sorry about that - it should be http://www.gpspeople.ca
(I’m suprised that nobody else noticed !!)

  115. Leo Says:

Hi Dave, just to make sure that the lower right ‘MMCX Active Antenna $19.99′ in http://www.gpspeople.ca is what you mentioned? cuz i cant find anyone with part number AT-555. I’m gonna take one.
    Thanx

    Leo

  116. Raymond Says:

Thanks Dave. I have an issue here. I’ve followed the procedures on MyGuide 3000 site to download the latest maps. I plug in the SD card into the card reader and copied all the folders from the SD card to my hard drive for backup purpose. What happened was the backup copies are all corrupted and when I tried to browse into the SD card Myguide folder there is nothing in the folder (no sub-folders at all). I then put back the SD card into the GPS and power it on. Result is that the Nagivation option is disppeared, only the Multimedia and Settings are still there. I tried to pump it for a few times, not progress at all.

Did anyone tried to update the maps and having the same problems?

  117. Leo Says:

I guess it is the problem with the SD card. i ever encounted serveral times which i can’t read and format it( a 2G card, not with V7)properly after i did some copy and paste. I used my friend’s sd card reader to reformat it and copy everything in then it came to work , not sure if it works in your case.

  118. Raymond Says:

    Leo,

I even got my PC system hang when accessing the SD card. I have the GPS working for a week but everything seems not working after I pull out the SD card for backup and map update purpose.

If I want to replace the original V7 SD card with a new card I still have to reload all the files to the new card, can you forward me all the files?

  119. Raymond Says:

Hi, I am not able to restore the folders and files from the DVD back to the SD card. But after I put it back in the GPS the Navigation button and the Games button are still disappear. I will try to get a new SD card tomorrow ;o(

  120. Dave C. Says:

Hi Leo - yes, if it says MMCX then that’s the right one.
(MMCX is the size of the connector)

  121. Raymond Says:

If I have to replace the original SD card do I just use the GPS DVD to restore all the files? Also, did anyone having the same SD card issue and have requested a replacement from the supplier?

    tks

  122. Leo Says:

    Raymond,
    yes,
not sure, but here in Futureshop canada, we were suggested to replace a whole new one(everything) if you want. of course in 1 month.

  123. Dave C. Says:

Raymond - I called V7 tech support and they sent me a new SD card (with all the files on it). I have not tried it, but it looks like the DVD will recreate all the files on a SD card.

  124. Raymond Says:

thanks guys. Dave do you have the V7 Tech support number and do you need to sent them back the faulty one?

  125. Marcel Says:

On the January 3rd, 2007 at 5:41 pm post, Jim Wy sid to “Put the PDA -500 for EST”. Isn’t it gona go back to 12:00 when I close and reopen the unit again?

BTW, you don’t know how happy I am to have found this chat group. It doesn’t solve all my GPS issues but at least it tell’s me I’m not the only one with them.

  126. Marcel Says:

On January 6th, 2007 at 12:24 am, David Says:

“4. Why isn’t the time saved after I power the unit off and back on again? I thought the time/date would retain in memory.
Response: the date and time is adjusted when you receive a gps signal you only need to change the time zone once and ignore the time and don’t change the time that appears above the time zone screens.”

I’m sorry but I don’t get what they mean. What time zone screen?

  127. Dave C. Says:

Raymond - the number I have for tech support for North America is 866-217-9887. (You might have trouble getting to talk to someone as I think it’s a one man office! - just keep calling).
I did not have to return the old SD card.

Marcel - Just go to the GPS data screen (touch the little satelite dish), and then select ‘Time Sync’ in the top right corner. Then make sure ‘Auto Correction’ is on, and then set your local time in the PDA field. The unit will then remember your local time correction. (Make sure you have a satelite time signal first).

  128. Raymond Says:

    Marcel,

under the setting option you select (Time) and on the bottom of the screen you will see two arrows where you can select your time zone. For Canada I selected Atlantic Time (Canada) then press (OK) on the right hand corner, then you are set. When you go outdoor and lock onto the satellite signal it will follow the selling and display the correct time according to this Time Zone you have set. ;o)

  129. Leo Says:

Just asked the support, they asked me to send back the old one after receiving the new one.

  130. sahar Says:

    Hi,

  131. Marcus Says:

i got a HUGE problem i tryed to get it so that when i start it up it goes to windows and i noticed while doing so it wiped the flash disk folder n it restarted and now i just get the myguide background and it won’t load anything. if someone knows how to reset it back to factory defalut can u let me know thanx. Pezzer44@hotmail.com

  132. Leo Says:

How you know the flash disk folder(not storage disk folder) was removed? if it is ,It could be serious, and in this case i guess the warrent won’t cover it. the folder flash disk should be handled very carefully, cuz they supposed you would not use windows CE explorer. V7 does not come with a reset function, and you need a specific device to write things back, which means only professionals have the devices to restore it.
Make sure everything is clear b4 contact support
    take care

  133. Dave C. Says:

Marcus - if you take out the SD card and turn on the unit, do you get the start screen with ‘Multimedia’ and ‘Settings’ buttons ?? If so, you should be able to get to Windows with the SD card in, and the modified addons.txt file on the card.
If you can get to Windows you can reload the flash disk if the contents have been erased.
Let me know if you need the files.

  134. Marcus Says:

hey i have a buddy that is gonna put a USB cable in for me and i’m hoping i can get to the windows files from there, and no it just shows the MYGuide screen like when u first start it up but i think that when i get it back with the USB cable i might be able to fix it thanx for your help :)

  135. Marcus Says:

i got my unit back with the USB cord in it and i found out that somehow i changed the background so that the myguide.bmp comes up infront of it so i was wondering how would u change the background image

  136. Doogie Says:

I need the new Canada map. Where can I get it? I hear there is a 90MB version out but I do not see it anywhere.

Can you use a MIO map on the V7?

    THx

  137. Dave C. Says:

Marcus -just a guess, but does IGOPATH.TXT on FlashDisk look like this:
    [pre_init]
    LangSyncOn = “\\flash disk\\langsync.exe”

    [pre_quit]
    LangSyncOff = “\\flash disk\\langsync.exe”

    [modules]
    Settings = “icons/settings.bmp”, “settings”, 1
    Multimedia = “icons/media.bmp”, “Multimedia”, 0

    [Multimedia]
    Picture= “”, “\\Flash DIsk\\XImage\\XImage.exe”
    Movie= “”, “\\Flash DIsk\\XMovie\\XMovie.exe”
    Music= “”, “\\Flash DIsk\\XMp3\\XMp3.exe”

    Which games will work?

    Thanks

  139. digitalfreeze Says:

You should be able to hack this unit and install any navigation software of your choice. Check out mionav.com and try the unlocking methods to open up this device to much possibilities. iGo is very good software, although it is not very user friendly.

  140. Marcus Says:

I got it to work:) thanx all i had to do was wait for my buddy to put the USB cable in n then i just addedthe flash disk folder back :) i was wondering if anyone new of a good site to get some games :)

  142. Doogie Says:

Can somebody please tell me if the Updated Canada maps are avail. I have tried looking everywhere. I hear of a 90mb version but this also isnt found.

All I find is outdated 50MB canada.fbl with all US POI that come up , this is insane. Please can somebody help me with just telling me whether updated canada maps are out???????

    Thanks

  143. Al Says:

Im waiting for the canada maps to be updated as well … please let me know if an updated version is available..

  144. Vic Says:

There’s been talk about the canada map being updated in April…I haven’t been able to locate as of yet. Hopefully the update occurs soon…

  145. Buntz Says:

There is no update. I think we’ve been lied to and I should hold dell responsible to tell me when the update is out rather than have me check daily for updates.

  146. Jean-Francois Says:

    Hi
I talked with a V7 sales rep and he told me “We do not have a fixed date for the availability of map updates currently; we are actively working to get these ready for the market by the end of April We will publish our next available map update timeline on the website at http://www.v7-world.com.The maps have a date listed so you can verify they are the latest versions, Updated maps for Europe should be available in May…They have yet to determine the cost of the update.”

  147. Buntz Says:

WHat COST????? There should be no cost for somebody who bought a device with outdated maps. THIS is pure bullshit. Can you tell me who your contact person is so I can take it out on him fully. This is pure bullshit.

  148. Dave C. Says:

There is an upgrade for the Myguide 3000 (which I think is the same unit as the V7 1000) on http://www.myguidegps.com/
It upgrades Myguide software 6.0 to 6.1, plus some other small fixes.
Has anyone out there tried it ?? I am a little nervous to try it, but V7 did tell me at one point that they do use the same software.
On this same site there is a ‘new’ map for Canada. What I don’t understand is that it shows the size as 53mB, whereas the on on my SD card is 63mB ????

  149. Leo Says:

I have tried the 90M canada map, i guess it is just a POIs modified version. I can really find much more POIs than the original version. The wrong High way exit near my home is still the same. and i was told this one might be the mio310’s original version.
Dave, it’s strange mine is also around 63M(63,289kb) on SD card.

  150. Dave C. Says:

Hi Leo - where did you find the ‘90M Canada map’ ? If the new Canada.fbl file that you found is 90mB, how come it only shows a size if 63mB on the SD card ?

  151. Timmer G Says:

Yes the update for the MyGuide 3000 does work on the V7. Basically, what it does is remove the date and time stamp that is on the main start screen. I imagine that they did this since the time was so messed up anyway, why bother showing it at all.

It appears that after you start the navigation, the time will eventually get updated to the correct time zone as long as you have provided the correct time zone in your settings screen. It switched a couple of times for me +- an hour but after a few minutes, it finally got it right.

The one thing to know is that after you install the upgrade, you will have to re-patch your V7 if you want the M button to go back to the main menu again.

At least this helps a little.

Now, where are those new maps and POI’s?

  152. Buntz Says:

Can anybody be kind enough to let me have the 90MB version of the CANADA map. At least I can have some POI’s. Here I have no POI’s. I’m totally screwed over and I went from a 60MB file to 51MB and now I have virtually no POI’s, and the same crud for maps. The place I needed to go couldn’t be located. AMAZING.

Can anybody put their 90mb file onto some server or tell me where to get it from. I’m really at my wits end with this problem.

There is no update and I’m doubting any update any time soon which will be meaningful. I bought this last month and my map is 2005 based!!!!!!

  153. Gille Says:

If a few of us called they will get the idea that we are pissed off and need an updated map of Canada.

    Hi,
I lost my flash disk for my v7 uk edition trying to install updates. Is there anybody who can provide me with a copy? your concern is already appreciated.
    my email is bamdad0007@yahoo.com

  162. bam Says:

I have installed an american flash disk and everything works except the navigate button with displaying this message: HardwareIDchanged? Does anybody know how to solve this problem?
    Thanks

  163. Rob Says:

    I also tried the update to myguide 6.1 with “MyGuide3000 Upgrade (MyGuide3000 200704 Upgrade.zip 28195kb”.

Like the others my unit (v7 pmd 1400 with maps of western Europe) now locks at the initial myguide screen and I can’t do anything. If I press the screen with thw stylus I get the display properties from ce.net so I guess at least some part of os remains.
I’ve emailed myguide to ask what to do and I just noticed that the upgrade file has been removed from their website (for myguide 3000).
So it looks like those of us who tried this upgrade are stuck at the moment.
The upgrade on my unit began ok but then seemed to fail at something to do with the zip file.
Let’s hope myguide get their fingers out and help us with this.

  164. bam Says:

    Hi Rob,
The same happened to mine. You can do sth about it to restore all the functions except navigate: tap the screen; click new folder; when it is made go to the top of the page and click go; then click the rectangular button with the broken arrow. You haveto be in the windows set up now. If you have already saved a copy of your flash disk, you can now delete the modified files and folders and reinstal the original copy through your sd card. Then your system will be restored to the original condition. I didnt have a copy of the flash disk, and just installed an american version flash disk but my navigate button does not work. Hope this will help. Can you send me a copy of your dvd and the flash disk if you happen to have the latter.
    Best

I have just been given a V7 10000 as a gift.Is it possible to change the voice?

  166. Polly Says:

Sorry-too many 0’s V7-1000.I’m still getting used to it!

  167. Timmer G Says:

I guess that I didn’t realize that there was both a hotfix and an upgrade/update file for the myguide 3000. I used the HOTFIX ONLY on my V7 and now my V7 updates the date and time correctly. I DID NOT install the upgrade to version 6.1. I noticed that the upgrade was not an english version so I don’t know why some of you living in America would even try to install that version anyway?

You should be able to send a copy of the flashdisk back to the V7 and over write the files that the upgrade did. If not, you may be out of luck for the moment.

  168. Dave C. Says:

Timmer G - the Hotfix also has a German title “Hotfix für den MyGuide 3000″.
I think the Upgrade will work when they get the software corrected.
