Nokia E62 + TeleNav + Cingular

nokia-e62-045.jpgCingular just announced the availability of its PDA-Based GPS navigation system on the Nokia E62 thanks to the TeleNav software.

This newest version of Telenav is capable of providing realistic ‘bird’s eye view’ as well as something called the ‘fuzzy search’ which helps you find the right address while you type.

The Nokia E62 has a nice large screen with a 320 x 240 pixel resolution that is more than enough to display high quality 3D maps. However there’s no embedded GPS chip in the Nokia E62, therefore you’ll have to buy some kind of bluetooth GPS receiver, also purchase the service plan.

Cingular is currently offering a free month trial of TeleNav GPS Navigator. Ongoing subscription to the service ranges from $5.99 per month for up to 10 trips or $9.99 a month for unlimited trips (Cingular data plan also required). The TeleNav GPS Navigator subscription includes free, automatic and ongoing map and Point of Interest (POI) content updates.

Another nice feature TeleNav GPS Navigator offers on the Nokia E62 is the “along-the-route” (ATR), allowing users to look up a business, place of interest, and even the lowest gas prices along their predetermined routes.

The Nokia E62 costs $350 straight, $200 with a 2-year contract, but there’s also a $100 mail-in-rebate (which we all hate).

Tried Telenav with my E62 and a Nokia LD-3W. Telenav Software never found the GPS receiver. Telenav says it only works with the GPS receiver they sell or the one that Cingular sells. What a coincidence!
