Viewsonic – a brand name known for its computer monitors – decided to enter the PDA / handheld computing market with a model called the V38r-07/-07A. In fact they released a series of new devices targeting variety of industries, including retail, public safety, healthcare and military.
V38r-07/-07A are the only ones in the V series to include an embedded GPS receiver. The difference between 07 and 07a is that V38r-07a is Trade Agreement Act (TAA) compliant to support government sales. Both run Windows PPC 2003 operating system with an Intel XScale processor at 520MHz. It comes with 64MB flash memory and 128MB of SDRAM and has a couple of wireless connectivity options such as 802.11 b/g and bluetooth.
Included in the 5.8″ x 3.2″ body V38r-07/07a includes a 1.3MP camera, barcode scanner, fingerprint sensor, 500mW speaker and microphone, and an SD slot for memory expansion.
The hot-swappable, rechargeable Li-Ion battery lasts only 4 hours but it allows you to change your battery without shutting down or losing data. Both devices are IP54 compliant meaning they are drop, scratch, spills, etc… resistant.
The manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the V38r-07 and V38r-07a is $1,899 and $1,999 respectively.
