Acer c510 c530, new PDA’s with integrated GPS

Yet again at a workshop organized by GPS navigation mapmaker Navteq in Italy (according to French) Acer announced new PDA’s to replace the old N35 model.

Main features of the c510 and c530:

  • Integrated SiRF III LP GPS receiver with integrated antenna
  • 2.8 inch TFT LCD Touch screen with 320 X 240 pixels and of resolution
  • Processor Samsung S3C2442XL Given rhythm To 300 MHz
  • 128MB of ROM and 64 MB of RAM
  • Bluetooth
  • Wi-Fi (only for the c530)
  • Port MMC/SD (up to 4 GB)
  • Mini USB
  • Battery Lithium-Ion of 1200 mAh
  • Dimensions : 5.8 x 10.8 x 1.7 cm
  • Weight : 122 G
  • Mobile Windows 5
  • Software of navigation ALK CoPilot 6 with maps of France provided by Navteq, on 256 MB SD memory card. No integrated radars, but can be imported.
  • MP3 player
  • Image viewer

C510 and C530 will be shipped with a car charger, mounting kit, and a mini USB cable for synchronization.

I could take in hands the c510 : it is rather fine, compact, light and with pleasant design.

Screens of size 2.8 inches are generally used by PDAphones for constraints of obstruction. However the range of Acer c500 does not make a telephone and personally I will have preferred a screen of size 3.5 inches, in particular for use PDA (contacts, calendar, Word). Whereas for navigation GPS, this cut screen is generally sufficient ; below 2.8 inches, I find personally that it is too small.

These will be available in November and the c510 should cost around 350 €.
