mobile AutoPC or UMPC UREN v1 (with video)
Published on September 5th, 2006 in gps navigation, umpc
This 7″ wide screen car PC UMPC hybrid is called UREN (pronounced “you’re in”) and manufactured somewhere in Korea. It uses a 1GHz processor with 3D support and runs Windows XP operating system. Most of the information we could find on this was on pmpinside.com for a while but it was taken down shortly after it was posted.
UREN v1 measures 192 x 121 x 25 mm’s and weighs 700 grams. No idea how long the battery life is but we know it is 1800mAH. Its 1.8 HDD has a 30GB capacity which should be more than enough for most of your mobile needs. On the right side of the UREN v1 you’ll find two USB ports, audio out port, DMB antenna jack, as well as the stylus storage. On the left hand side you’ll see a miniSD slot and a compact flash slot and the DC jack. (any native Korean speaker may prove us wrong here).
On the back side of UREN v1 there’s an external GPS antenna a small integrated speaker and a camera lens. So we’re pretty sure it is capable of recording at least some short video clips. If you want to hook up your UREN to a projector, no worries, the included extension gives you a VGA out port and an ethernet port.
Included in the box is a car cradle so you can use your UREN v1 as a GPS navigation system which uses the Rousen (Route Sensor) software which has cool looking 3D graphics. It would be a waste if you only used UREN as a navigation system though. It is capable of playing your music or video files, and showing DMB channels. There is a remote controller too so people in the back seat can also control the entertaintment in your car. Flashy looking GUI on the UREN v1 lets you have two user settings in case you’re not the only one driving the car.
After the jump you’ll find a 30 second demo video and bunch of pictures…

- Microsoft pushes portable computers for media players and GPS units

This device almost screams for MessagEase keyboard (www.exideas.com) with it you have a chance to enter text with a finger relaiably.
Other than that, this is a very well designed product, save its name!

UREN V1 and A1 - from “INNOWELL” - the worsest kind of item I ever had.
The Unrelayability of the UREN UMPC and the company itself is enough to think about buying Samsung or ASUS. The korean company “INNOWELL” has no service, no maintenance, no drivers. They understand no other language exept korean. So……forget it.
